  1. Wow, it sounds like you're in a really great spot with UTD Hopefully your good news comes soon!! And sorry for the confusion-- the BU in my status is actually Boston U. I wasn't too heartbroken to be waitlisted, because I've recently realised that cold weather isn't for me!! I still have not heard either way from Baylor, and won't hear until Tuesday
  2. Mmmkay guys, new game plan: We all scheme together to get me into Baylor, then Steph can take my spot at Vandy, and Toonces can take Steph's spot at UTD. Sound good?
  3. I hope you love it! Colorado is beautiful and CU-Boulder is supposed to be a great school My last school is Baylor, and I REALLY like the program. However, it is kinda expensive and not as "prestigious" as some other schools, so idk if I could justify choosing it if i'm lucky enough to get in:/ I'm just so ready to decide and start preparing for next year!
  4. Ughh, i wish i knew! I LOVE vandy's curriculum, faculty, clinic, electives, campus, etc., but I think living in NC would be more "fun" than Nashville I also think i'm more likely to settle down permanently in NC, and I'd rather not move twice in just a few years :/ grrr... Are you pretty much set on Boulder?! They both seem like great programs:)
  5. I won't hear from one of my programs until Tuesday at the earliest. This usually wouldn't bother me, but this particular program starts in early June!! I know it's very competitive and I most likely won't get in, but those who are accepted barely have 2 months to prepare/move/settle in/start class! Yikes D:
  6. EEEEEEEK CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! time to do a happy dance!! :D :D
  7. I don't think so, at least for most states! I think you can join any/all of the organizations (University, State, National), and I think there are typically benefits if you join more than one. The state chapter puts on some smaller, interesting events and conferences that might be more do-able for students than the annual, national events
  8. Thanks, kcald! I think our student membership will pretty much pay for itself from the discounted ASHA dues and discounted conference fees, but I wasn't really sure what else the benefits would be. I guess it wouldn't hurt, right?!
  9. If you haven't already, are y'all planning to officially join NSSLHA? I'm a member of my undergrad's NSSLHA chapter, but I haven't found it necessary to join the national organization yet. I'm trying to figure out how important this will be for grad students...
  10. I called Baylor late this afternoon because i was sooo anxious! They said the dept sent their decisions to the university's grad admissions, and we might not hear until Tuesday 4/2 :(
  11. Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone; we're in the home stretch now!!

  12. Thanks! Good luck to you, too!! Let me know when you hear your decision (and i will do likewise!)
  13. Yeah, it's gonna be tough for us to decide by the 15th! I will most likely not be attending Vandy, so perhaps that will work in your favor I REALLY like all of the schools i applied to lol, so once I know my options for sure, I will have to re-crunch the numbers and sleep on it for a few days to decide. Oh! And apparently Baylor is closed for Easter from Good Friday through Monday 4/1, so I'm hoping that means we will hear tomorrow!!
  14. While i was deciding which schools to apply to , i looked at the objective factors like location, cost, rank, program structure, etc. and only applied to schools where I knew i'd be happy for 2-3 years. Now that i've been accepted to a couple programs, I feel okay about using my gut feelings to make the final decision.
  15. @Makin Choices: i'm sure both of your options are great and would prepare you to be a wonderful SLP A few more things to consider: 1- Does Dream School research a variety of bilingual kids, or just English/Spanish? I know some bilingual labs prefer or even require interested students to be fluent (near-native level) in Spanish, if that would make a difference to you. 2- Do you have any parental support/savings, or the ability to work part-time at Dream School? My goal is to take out loans only for tuition, and use savings/work part-time to cover living expenses and books. Even working three 4-hour shifts per week would put a dent in the expenses. Good luck with your decision!!
  16. The SLP program seems great! I'm applying for Summer 2013, so if I get in I would actually be done around August/September 2014 =) Our last semester is an externship that can be done anywhere, which is sweet! Is Baylor one of your top picks?!
  17. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming that they are ridiculously stressed & sleep-deprived (like many of us!) during this application process. These decisions don't always make sense or seem logical, and they can make us second-guess our applications-- "Did i say something wrong in the interview?" "Did I write the wrong school's name in my personal statement?!" etc. Knowing how subjective and competitive this whole process is, though, we really should try to stay more positive and appreciative!
  18. hey! Just FYI, i think there are a few audiology people in the "Speech-Language Pathology" forum under "Professional Programs".
  19. We're all rooting for you!! =) hang in there, we only have a few more weeks left and you've made it so far already!!
  20. 22 days until this is all over =)

  21. Also, think about investing in a set of Tupperware! I'm still in undergrad, but I live a few miles off campus and it is not unusual for me to be on campus for 12+ hours. I like being able to pack salads, pasta, veggies, etc. rather than being stuck with sandwiches or buying food on campus. You can also cook larger quantities of food and freeze/store it in your tupperwares for future meals
  22. I think using personal stories can go either way. I wrote ( very briefly-- like 1 sentence) about how my mom is a special ed. teacher, and I became interested in that population early on. However, rather than dwelling on the touchy-feely stuff, I went on to give concrete, logical examples of how that has played out in my life (buddies program in school, volunteering) which led in to my experiences in college and employment doing respite/hab.
  23. defending my thesis tomorrow! Can't wait for it to be over so i can reward myself by sleeping for, like, 16 hours :P

    1. midnight

Thanks! I'll take all the luck i can get!;)

  24. Oh and I didn't clarify, but TCU said we should hear by this week. I'm sure the letters will take longer than emails, for example, so I'm not feeling too optimistic I know it's a super competitive program, though!!
  25. TCU apparently made decisions last week. Accepted applicants will be called, wait-listed applicants will be emailed, and rejected applicants will be notified via mail. Baylor says by 4/1, so I'm hoping we will know by next Friday!!!
