  1. Congratulations, katielea! Did you end up emailing them to ask about your place on the waitlist? Yay! I'm so glad things worked out for you.
  2. Katielea, I totally understand. I am in a similar situation in that I have a six year old daughter. It helps that she is a little older and can understand why I would need to be away during clinicals, but it certainly isn't an ideal situation. I felt the same way about being home with my daughter the summer before she started kindergarten. Children are only young for a short time and as parents we don't want to miss out on too much. Hopefully things work out for us this admissions cycle! Good luck!
  3. Yes, I'm still waiting as well. I'm trying my best to distract myself from checking emails, gradcafe, and program website portals. I'm having total deja vu as I was waitlisted this time last year. =/ Katielea, have you accepted your ISU offer or do you have some time before you have to give them an answer? If you don't mind me asking, what would prevent you from attending the 8 week summer clinical? I've been curious about their summer clinicals as well. I think finding housing for 8 weeks could be a challenge.
  4. Still waiting to hear something... *Fingers crossed HARD for good news this week!*
  5. I'm still waiting as well. I'm trying not to get too discouraged. I'm hoping good news will come this week!
  6. In Washington state the average salary for SLPs is stated to be 72k. You might not be making that straight out of graduate school, but if you start your program this Fall that brings you one year closer to a nice salary. Your salary might not be your own after you graduate (almost entirely going to bills/student loans), but it is entirely possible to keep living frugally after you graduate in order to pay off your loans. Another thing to consider is that you could try to work during graduate school to bring down that overall price tag. Perhaps your program might even offer part-time enrollment so you can work while in graduate school. Good luck!
  7. Congratulations to your daughter & you! How exciting =D
  8. I attended an online SLP prerequisite program. It was a three semester, 35 credit program (Fall, Spring, Summer). I took four classes (two with "lab") in the Fall, five classes in the Spring, and two classes in the Summer. Personally, I found the classes to be ridiculously easy. The information was straightforward, interesting and fun. I thrive when it comes to online learning so that also made my experience enjoyable. I worked part time and volunteered part time while I attended the program, so my days were quite full. I also have an SO and a six year old daughter so I was busy taking her to school/extracurricular activities as well. I spent most of my time studying in the evenings and on the weekends. The online lectures were the most time consuming. Sometimes I had 30 min lectures and other times I had two+ hour lectures. However, as previously stated, I found the material to be quite easy. Good luck!
  9. *Sigh* It's been so quiet. I haven't heard a peep from ISU. I'm starting to think I wont hear anything until after April 15th.
  10. Congratulations katielea and twinguy!! You both will make excellent slps. Now I will be sitting on the edge of my seat the rest of this week while I wait to hear something from ISU.
  11. I spoke with the financial aid office and the graduate admissions office this morning. I didn't exactly get solid answers on why we received an award, but the admissions office basically stated that the CSED department is still reviewing applications and should finalize decisions very soon. One person I spoke with said it could have been one office jumping the gun by sending out award letters, but ultimately those award letters don't mean anything because nothing can be processed until fin-aid gets the final go ahead from CSED dept and graduate admissions. I'm still taking it as a good sign, but I was told it isn't a guarantee that we have been accepted into the program. When I spoke with the scholarship office I was basically told that I should apply for non-BOSS (online system) scholarships before the deadline (April 4th) despite the department delay in admissions. http://www.isu.edu/scholar/opensc.shtml
  12. I'm planning on calling the ISU financial aid office tomorrow for more information. I just read in the "Less Competitive" forum that there is an additional per-credit fee for the online ISU program and I want to ask ISU about that. Also, I read online that the ISU scholarship deadline is April 4th so I want to make sure we are eligible to apply even though we are not registered for Fall yet. I found out my WKU status by logging into the website. WKU made sure to highlight the decision in bright yellow so I wouldn't miss the rejection they gave me. lol
  13. Thank you for sharing this info. I never saw this fee on the department program-cost webpage, but it is clearly stated on the ISU financial aid professional fee page. =/
  14. Thank you for sharing those TED talks. I just checked them both out and loved them. TED talks have been my way to pass time for about a week now. I was starting to feel like I was killing brain cells by watching prime time tv shows. lol
  15. If anyone has questions about Pullman, WA I would be happy to help. I've lived in Pullman since 2008, completed my undergraduate work here, and have resided in Pullman. Contact me if you have specific questions.
  16. I heard from two programs today. These are not acceptances, but I wanted to share anyway. I checked my phone when I heard the email update *ding* while driving. I saw that it was from UNCO and luckily I was close to my destination so I could park my car and read the email. I was wait listed at UNCO, but I am very happy! I would love to attend UNCO and this was happy, unexpected news. I was hanging out here on grad cafe earlier this evening. I realized that I hadn't checked my WKU application portal today and when I logged in the decision was right there in front of me. It was nice of WKU to highlight the decision in bright yellow so I wouldn't miss the big fat rejection they gave me. lol =(
  17. Heard from two schools today. Just logged in and randomly saw my rejection from Western Kentucky University (online). =( I've read that they have a high volume of applicants so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Still I was really hoping to hear good news from WKU. There is a professor at WKU who I would have loved to work with. The news of getting wait listed at UNCO certainly helped soften the blow today. Good luck to everyone else!
  18. Hi soccer2grl. The same thing happened to me. Hopefully this is promising! I applied to ISU (online) last year, was wait listed and then ultimately not accepted. I never received a financial aid award so I'm hoping that this is a good sign. Good luck to you! Hopefully we will find out soon.
  19. I finally got some news! I was wait listed at UNCO! Obviously, this means I will have to wait even longer for good news, but at least now I know something! I feel soooooooooooo much better now knowing that I might at least have a future at one school. =)
  20. UNCO peeps! I just found out that I was wait listed for the online program as well! Good luck to everyone. I am absolutely thrilled that I was waitlisted. UNCO is my top choice and I thought for sure I would just get flat out rejected! Fingers crossed!
  21. May I ask if you applied to the UNCO on-campus or online program?
  22. I've noticed this as well. It's totally not helping my anxiety. I've been checking my email non-stop all day. lol. Congrats to everyone admitted! On this note, I received a financial aid award email today from ISU, but no news on admissions. Does everyone get a fin-aid award email? I'm trying not to get my hopes up.
  23. If you are hoping to get into graduate school for SLP someday it wont matter if you went for a post-bacc or a second degree in CSD. Graduate schools care that you have taken the required prerequisites. I honestly don't think a second bachelors will open more doors than a post-baccalaureate program. This is just my opinion. I have never seen a graduate SLP program require students to have a degree in CSD. Every program I've looked into requests that the applicant have a CSD undergrad degree OR have a bachelor degree + completed CSD prerequisites.
  24. Hey there! I just wanted to give ISU another shout out. I completed the ISU post-bacc program as well and it was wonderful! =)
