Thank you so much for this!!! This was incredibly helpful and honestly made me so excited because you said everything I was hoping to be true. I am already feeling the pressure of time - hoping I can take advantage of everything I want to do in 9 months. For that reason, I so wish it was two years, but there are obvious reasons a one year program is awesome. I'm also EPM and am not fully sure which path I want to take with this... I'm leaning toward research analysis. In other news, I am going to open house and am splurging on a hotel (Holiday Inn - $148 per night via hotwire) and it's going to be a $550 two days, but I think it will be worth it to get a feel for the school and ask some questions. And maybe buy a hoodie. A big question I have is related to pursuing doctoral studies and if that is even possible immediately following a one year program or if it's better to go back into the work world a while to gain experience and try to get published first. Feel free to chime in on this.... For the person who asked about Cronkhite costing as much as a regular apartment - factor in that you'd have to spend money on food in a regular apartment since you included the meal plan in your totals. Personally, I need a kitchen. Cooking is one of my de-stressors. So excited and also very overwhelmed wondering how to get internships and such. AHHH!! Also.... is it too early to buy a car window sticker? I think I should buy a car sticker. Priorities here.

Side note - that model in the V-Neck looks too young to be in undergrad, nevermind HSGE.
-
Haha I was thinking Hoodie will definitely be my first item, too. But I might wait until I can go buy one in person So excited!!!!! THat was a pretty V-Neck though Merrysoprano. May have to invest in one of those too. And 10 million t-shirts. I hope that have a shirt that says "Harvard Mommy!" just like that to get my mother.

Right under where it said I was accepted it said "We are pleased to inform you that you've been recommended for an $8,064 scholarship." Congrats everyone!!!
-
Also, I know a bunch of you were also still waiting to hear from TC. My acceptance was pretty anti-climatic at this point because I'm still so excited about HSGE, but I just randomly checked the website about an hour ago and still haven't even received the email saying to do so. Just go to your application (not NextStep) and it's just like Harvard's. They offered me some moolah, but meh.... too excited about HSGE!

Hahahaha so funny. Especially because while visiting Harvard as a junior in high school, my mom said "You just sit here on this corner until you find a husband." I have added a new theory to the cost thing... It's 9 months of my life and 9 months that I want to savor and get the most of and that is worth a few hundred bucks a month. I definitely want to be closer to campus. In the end, what's tacking a couple extra grand to those loans really? (I had this same theory while purchasing the home just ever so much out of my range.... struggled a bit, but it worked out).
-
Just randomly checked my status and my decision was available for Ed Policy in case anyone else wanted to check and see!! I was admitted with a scholarship, leaving Harvard the only place not to offer me money and yet I am still going there. Oye. But still exciting!!!

Yeah. Haven't responded to the Grad Assistantship offer at Vandy yet, but I just have to go with Harvard. It's Harvard. I think if they said "It will cost you one kidney in addition to tuition," I'd still have to say yes.

Housing is crazy! I mean, I'm from Chicago so I'm used to things not being affordable... but holy crap! So much worse in Cambridge! I looked at on-campus housing, but I don't think I can handle a dorm room. I need a kitchen in my life. I'll be at Open House!! (also costing a crap-ton!!) But I guess I better get used to spending money I don't really have... this is going to be one hell of an expensive 9 months. Can't think of anything I'd rather go in debt for though!
-
Sounds like a pretty awesome deal!

I don't think they've released the majority of programs yet. I'm definitely going with HSGE, but it would still be nice to know.
-
Haha CQE, I think they are sending a letter because it said in a few weeks we'd get a package with more materials. I know that Vandy sent a letter even though I found out online. I totally agree though... I want to frame that thing!!! Haha

As scary as graduating with loans is, I'm trying to think about it in terms of the rest of my life (obviously we all are) and what HSGE would mean vs Peabody. Even though I loved the program and Peabody is such a great place, I just can't imagine that I have the option to go to Harvard and I wouldn't take it. I agree that it seems silly to get caught up in the name, but when it comes to schools, I think that does matter in how people view you and what they think when they look at a resume, etc. That being said, Vanderbilt obviously has really strong connections a lot of places and the practicum experience sounded great. For me, I think my gut is just saying I have to go to Harvard. I haven't stopped smiling since I saw the letter.

I got the associate editor of the Peabody Journal of Education assistantship and I had asked Rosie if there were any opportunities. I'm not sure how things connected, but the Professor and current grad assistant asked for qualified candidates and were given my information. I guess they interviewed a few people. I am still waiting to hear the details on how much it pays... It would probably have to be full tuition to make me choose it over HSGE though... and even then... I don't know.

Admitted!!!! OK, I don't think I can turn down Harvard. Congratulations every else!!!!

Congratulations!!!!

Finally got the Financial Aid status email that gave me a heart attack.
-
HSGE? Yeah... it's intense. Plus living in Boston is way expensive... (Don't mind me. I'm talking my way out of Harvard before I even know if I'm in).
-
Thank you so much! I'm really excited. And I agree. If I thought I'd have this kind of opportunity at HSGE, it would carry a lot of weight, but I know I wouldn't. And I highly doubt I'd get any aid at all. But I would certainly like to have all the information before I make such a huge decision.

Just got the official offer for the graduate assistantship at Vandy! So excited, but it also means that I probably have to turn HSGE down even if I do get in, which just seems crazy. But I don't think I can take out 60 grand in student loans vs. graduating debt-free from Vanderbilt even if it is Harvard. So crazy, but a great place to be in. Unfortunately, Peabody wants an answer before HSGE visitation day even if I do get in, which isn't cool.... I have a week to decide if I"m going to Vanderbilt. GAH JUST LET ME KNOW HARVARD!!!!!
-
Also, Lbessmer, I don't think it's hard to get an assistantship. Just bug people. Email professors, Rosie Moody, etc. until someone gives you some options. That's what I did.

I'm in the MPP program and have heard nothing about scholarships, so I'm assuming I have not got one. I did just get offered a grad assistantship that seems pretty amazing but they want to know by the 15th. AHhhhh!!! I haven't heard back from HGSE yet, but I assume with getting money to Vanderbilt, that's going to make it my top choice anyway.

I'm almost jealous Loseric! I wish someone would confiscate my email for a while. Haha.

Awesome! Just out of curiosity, what program are you in?
