  1. This.
  2. I took an MA with pretty decent funding after the 2013 cycle. I think I'm in a much better place this time around, but time will tell.
  3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secular_humanism http://harvardhumanist.org/
  4. I have successfully distracted myself with some red wine and a new sous-vide machine. Highly recommended.
  5. Well, they only formally accepted the paper two days ago, and it's not really a thing I'd attend if I wasn't presenting. Thanks for the advice!
  6. It's usually a batch process. There may be waitlist stragglers.
  7. I am vastly disappointed that science has not yet invented stasis chambers. My anxiety level is high enough that I'm having difficulty writing.
  8. This is the conference: http://2015.hci.international/ Part of the problem is that the conference is so far outside my field (I'm a humanist who does a lot of digital work) that I don't know how prestigious it is, and therefore I don't know if it's worth the $ or the effort required to scrape together the grant money. Seratim: 1) over 3,000 2) convention center 3) one convention center reception dinner 4) 5) It's a week long, but the first part of the week is tutorial sessions, which hold no interest for me (also I'll be in Rome) 6) No membership AFAIK.
  9. Berkeley does two waves of acceptances.
  10. Followup: Is $470 (student) / $690 (full) for registration at a Computer Science conference which will have its proceedings published totally absurd? Because it seems totally absurd to my poor unfunded humanities self.
  11. That would be really very early, and I'm pretty sure the committee hasn't sat yet. And yes, everything was shut down on Tuesday.
  12. You should note that it is not unheard of for some people to deliberately troll the results reporting.
  13. On the subject of odd, has anyone noticed that every year there is exactly one UChicago admit in the last three days of January and then the rest of the acceptances come 2 weeks later?
  14. Yeah, that struck me as odd.
  15. This seems fairly standard for state schools - first round for university fellowships, second for regular funding with TA obligations.
  16. $15k CAN stipend IIRC. But only 2 slots for Int'l applicants direct to PHD. No funding for the MA portion for internationals.
  17. A POI may call you, but they do not have a formal system.
  18. As I said, Die große Stille. I am hoping for continued silence from Berkeley next week. Out of my apps, Harvard, Chicago, Toronto, and Brown should all send out on the 9-10th.
  19. I'm preparing a set of maps for a professor's publication and working on my own book project.
  20. Have you read this: http://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/faq-the-snake-fight-portion-of-your-thesis-defense ?
  21. Also
  22. Based on previous trends, I would expect offers from Berkeley in the coming week, and rejections the week after, with a second wave of acceptances in the second or third week of Feb. From the data, I infer that the send out acceptances to those with university fellowships, then rejections, then acceptances to those who received departmental funding.
