It's funny, cause Western was my last choice school (not because of the school/program itself, but because I'm a person of colour who grew up in that area and don't feel like going back there/sticking out like that again). I got wait listed at Western, and will likely go to UBC, but your posts are kind of making me wish I had the option of Western

What a fantastic post! Just wanted to add something: U of T has placement opportunities like this as well. Some international ones, and some up north.

If you go to school in Canada, your qualifications are recognized by ASHA. But we have very few programs (only 6 in English), so it's harder to get into than in the US. England would be fun!

Last I heard it was 56.

Kath16, I agree with your whole post! But I find this interesting: Was he educated at McGill? Seriously. This is not something I've heard before. Also, I've never gotten the impression that SLP is about the school you go to, especially not in Canada. Sure, if you want to be a lawyer, which school you go to is important. But as an SLP... once you're an SLP, you're an SLP and it shouldn't matter? Especially if you went to school in Canada... All the schools that have SLP programs are great schools! Perhaps it's just McGill's overall prestige? As a whole, the university is really famous. Then again, U of T holds a lot of prestige too. U of T, McGill, and UBC are always the top three. Best of luck to both of you! ETA: One thing I forgot about: If memory serves, McGill students don't have classes or placements the first summer of their program. U of T students do. There's a placement in July/August. In can be in either July or August, or part time over the two months. If having a few months off in the middle of the program is appealing to you, consider that!

In all of my own excitement, I didn't see your post! Can you give us some more info about your interests? Have you lived in Toronto or Mtl. before? Where do you plan/hope to live after? Also: Can you come to the U of T open house on Monday? Do you speak French fluently? At McGill, you will likely be sent all over the place for placements, so keep that in mind. At McGill, there's a lot of interest in bilingualism and neurogenic disorders, according to the site. At U of T, there's a lot with swallowing disorders. While I admittedly have never been to the McGill school of comm. studies, it seems it's separate from the OT and PT schools. At U of T, SLP, OT, and PT are all in the same building in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences, which is in the middle of "hospital row". McGill's program is just over half the size of U of T's. So if a small class is appealing to you, consider that.

Welcome em.ber! There's an audiology thread here: And so far it's only Canadians. I never thought about what an impossible choice I would have on my hands! U of T versus UBC. I thought I would get waitlisted at U of T at the most, so I didn't think I'd have to make this decision!

I've been thinking about this. Two things came to mind: 1) BC (or at least UBC) tends to have cheaper tuition than Ontario schools. 2) There are less SLP spots per capita in BC than in Ontario. So in Ontario, money is getting stretched across more schools/spots, where as in BC, it's just going to UBC.

It says $3,856 per term. I would think you would need to make at least two instalments (once in fall, once in winter) of that fee. Once again it comes down to if you have to pay again for the summer. ETA: My friend has confirmed that U of T is approximately 10K a year. So that means the price on the site is for the whole year. Hope that helps.

The 10K price tag is what my friend who is currently in the program has told me. I will ask her if there was an additional fee for the summer. ETA: "Spring" is not a semester at U of T. So the price should be for Sept-April, or Sept -Aug, but I think it's the latter.

Congrats egad00!!!!! I have the same question about UBC and U of T... In U of T's email it says it ranks among the highest in North America.. but I want to know how the other schools rank!

I'm sorry I actually have not applied to Aud, I'm in SLP. I guess I'm just nosy poking around this thread. I'm likely going to UBC in the fall for SLP (so far it's the only place I've been accepted). Aud and SLP students take courses together there. I hope you get off the waitlist there... People with actual experience (versus just a nice GPA) bring so much to the class!

I agree with Audie. I find a lot of Ontario students prefer to stay in Ontario as opposed to move to Vancouver. Good luck!!!!!

Just out of curiosity... Did you apply to any other French programs?

I haven't come across anybody else who's applied to U of O. I'm jealous. I was originally planning on applying there but it didn't work out this year. If I didn't get in to any of the English programs this year, I was going to apply there next year. So I don't have an answer to your question, but best of luck! This has been what I have seen/heard as well.

Congrats to everyone who got in! Mine says "refused". Quelle surprise! /sarcasm. Having one acceptance already thankfully makes it hard to care. I definitely think it was my cGPA that did me in.
