  1. Do you have any other kind of relevant experience? I seem to remember you submit your CV to U of A. I know that U of A looks at students more holistically, so I feel like if you have relevant experience (working in any sort of rehabilitation setting, educational setting, etc.) that will help you. My only concern would be that so many of the people you will be competing with will have SLP volunteering experience.
  2. Way to go, SLP201315! Sounds like you had a good profile!!! For those asking about prereqs - I know of people who have gotten into U of T while still taking prereqs, and were told they needed to complete the prereqs with at least a B+. A friend of mine was rejected at U of T and called to ask about what they could have done to improve their application, and one feedback was they should consider bumping up one of their prereq grades from a B to at least a B+.... So they matter! Certainly if you got a 50 in phonetics, that probably doesn't look great. (having said all that, I know people who have failed prereqs the first time they took them, retook them... and still got in... so one bad mark isn't going to kill your chances...)
  3. I'm not sure if you can get it from a Canadian school? But if so, UBC offers an online neuroanatomy course While it usually really cheap for Canadian students (500-600, I believe), I just realized it can be much pricier for Americans.
  4. I can't answer these questions, but I am just here to encourage you to go internationally if it interests you. I had a family at work that lived in China and they were telling me that to get in with an English-speaking SLP, it's a two year waitlist! There is such a need for SLPs for expats in some places!
  5. My top choice school has already issued at least one acceptance... like 13 days ago. So I'm super bummed!
  6. My CGPA isn't great... so I'm really banking on UBC, because they ask for your CV. And I think my CV really helped me paint a better picture for myself.
  7. I never got an email from U of T either! As long as you got the confirmation letter from ORPAS I think you're fine.
  8. Congrats to everyone who got into MGH!
  9. Oh, actually, I wanted to ask all you who applied through ORPAS something: I did two undergrad degrees. So for the "last 20 courses" subGPA, they would get 16 courses from my 2nd degree, and 4 from my first degree. The last semester (the winter semester) of my first degree I took four courses. So that should have been good. Except instead of just using those 4 courses, they averaged out my whole year (fall and winter) and that GPA average was used for my last four courses. Adding in that fall semester made my GPA .08 lower (I'm REALLY REALLY angry about this!). I knew they didn't split semesters, but I didn't realize they also didn't split years also?! Did anyone else have this problem?
  10. I wanted to mention I'm from Toronto, and U of T is known as a really, really good program. Seems Western is good too! I've heard mixed reviews about McGill.
  11. Your application sounds FIERCE. I'm sure you can get into the Ontario schools!
  12. lol. your avatar is a schwa! I want to be a schwa too -- they're never stressed!
  13. Is March 15 when most American schools announce?
  14. Me! I'm around on the boards. The stress of waiting for UBC's decision (my top choice, and also the one I will hear back from first) is occupying my days!
  15. Nice to see you all here! Glad I have people to wait it out with! I didn't notice the old Canadian one until yesterday or the day before. Oh well, at least we got the conversation going again. Yeah, at least we know the date for Toronto and Western. For McGill (along with UBC) it's just sometime in March. Which is absolutely crazy-making! I really don't think I have a shot at McGill. But I'm really gunning for UBC so I'm going a little nuts over here. Natasha21297 -- why did you pick those schools? Less prerequisites?
  16. Hi all, I am a current York student. I have been commuting from downtown to York, and it takes about an hour. The express bus to campus lhommependu mentioned isn't bad. It comes really frequently, and is relatively short because it doesn't really stop many places -- it's express to and from the station. I have done the commute for 15 months straight, and never had a problem with it. I used to read a lot during the commute. Another option is to live in midtown - half way between York and downtown. So around St. Clair West, for example. I have never lived in the village, but it is notorious for crime problems (mainly assaults, break-ins). Safety has definitely been a huge concern on campus during my time there.
  17. Hi all, I'm a Canadian and I've only applied to Canadian schools this time around (haven't written the GREs yet!). I'm hoping to find some other Canadians here as we seem to have to wait it out longer than the Americans. So, any other Canucks here?
