  1. I was hoping for a status change before the weekend, because I am still in recommended for assessment purgatory. Can I get a litte undergoing assessment by department, please?
  2. I got an email inviting me to the University of Ottawa's open house on March 22. They wouldn't send that email out to rejects, would they?
  3. It depends. If you are rejected because you don't meet to the minimum requirements, or if there is definitely no supervisor for you, you might get a rejection pretty fast. Conversely, if you are rejected because other candidates ultimately beat you out in a competition, it might take a long time to get an answer.
  4. Yay, @AnonymousAcademic! Mine hasn't changed yet either. I don't know if I can withstand another three weeks of this torture. The anxiety is literally causing me physical symptoms now. I wish I could shut it off and forget about it until the 31st.
  5. Does anyone have any news from the University of Ottawa? For any program?
  6. I wish I wouldn't have waited until so close to the admission deadline to get in touch with professors. I also should have applied to more schools instead of putting all my eggs in two proverbial baskets. I should have applied to schools in the U.S. and Europe. Finally, I should have been way better about applying for scholarships.
  7. Here's another thread you might find useful. It's about transitioning to grad studies from the military:
  8. Hi! I don't think your military experience would be detrimental at all. In fact it might be a big asset, depending on how you present it in your applications. I don't think you have anything to "explain or compensate" for. I hope that's not the tone you took in your SOP, because that could actually do you more harm than good. I'm not sure if you have any specific questions, but you might get more responses if you post over on the Government Affairs board: http://forum.thegradcafe.com/forum/11-government-affairs/ In the "Am I Competitive?" thread, people discuss their various backgrounds. You'll see they're quite varied. Some posters mention having military experience:
  9. I like the use of "facedesk" as a verb. Haha. I would be horrified as well, but like the other posters have said, it's not necessarily a death sentence. Good luck!
  10. Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it. Those statuses mean different things to different departments. Your best bet is to check with your poi to see how they define the "recommended for assessment" status. Also, you may find this post helpful:
  11. The information on that web page does not apply to NPSIA. It states: "The Decisions below refer to Master of Social Work applications only."
  12. It wasn't a generalized email. I sent an inquiry last week asking when decisions would be made, and the administrative assistant replied to me today. I also found it odd given the results page on this site seems to indicate that in previous years the decisions were issued in March. Maybe they're doing things differently this year, or maybe it's a generous estimate so I'll refrain from bugging them again until April. Who knows?
  13. Oh, thanks for posting this! Those statuses don't mean much out of context. Now I know a bit more what to expect. Congrats on your admission!
  14. Yay! Congratulations! What does your status say now?
  15. basket case (Seems very appropriate for my current state of mind!)
  16. I imagine many of you who applied for NPSIA also applied for the MA in Public and International Affairs at the University of Ottawa. I just got an email from Social Sciences informing me that admissions decision for the GSPIA won't be sent out until April.
  17. Good luck with admission to the joint program! It looks very interesting. I considered the possibility of applying, but ultimately decided I didn't want to commit to law school.
  18. I would write back and reiterate my interest in working with him.
  19. Hi, this thread might be interesting to you:
