  1. a reminder to would be UCSD applicants, the deadline is tomorrow! If you're looking for a stellar fully funded program in Southern California, don't wait
  2. +1 for Rutgers. Disagree that they are just a painting-centric program though. Or at least the sense I got from talking to them last year is that they are trying very hard to move away from that. I can't speak from experience as to whether it is true yet, but it looks promising, especially looking at the faculty, Natalie Bookchin, Aki Sasamoto, etc.
  3. I guess it depends what you consider walking distance, but I would say that Mesa is close enough to the Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and Ralphs on Villa La Jolla Drive. I'd say it's about a 20 or 30 minute walk.
  4. Cool, thanks for letting us know. Sucks to hear you didn't get your first choice
  5. ooh yeah I am curious too. I put Sept 1st, and wasn't expecting to hear anything for a while yet. Did they call you or email?
  6. Its not about a specific lack of something, but about the value of what one can gain/learn from the time away from school. To be clear, I totally agree that there is no catch-all advice, and that many are ready to go straight from undergrad, but I do think that carryover's advice is good, perhaps without the tone of definitiveness that (s)he uses.
  7. Yes, to my email I provided on the application.
  8. hmm.. for SHORE right? I sent mine in a couple weeks ago, and got an email confirming it was received. You might want to check in.
  9. Thanks for all the freak-outs everyone! Its been a long couple of years. I am going to be attending UC San Diego in the fall! I applied for MFA programs two years in a row, and had far better results the second time, from only one acceptance in 2014, to four in 2015. In between I did a couple of residencies, exhibitions, and kept making work. I'm posting my results here in case anyone is interested. Hopefully it will be encouraging for those who didn't get the results they were looking for this year to try again in a year or two. Unsure if I want to post my website, but if anyone is interested, feel free to PM me. 2015: UCSD - Interviewed/ Accepted/ Going (full tuition + TA) UC Irvine - Interviewed/ Waitlist/ Accepted (full tuition + TA) Rutgers - Accepted (no interview) (with TA position = full tuition + $25k/year) SAIC - Interviewed: Performance, Sculpture/ Accepted: Performance (with 20% tuition scholarship), Sculpture, FVNMA UCLA, USC, Yale - Rejected 2014: University of Chicago - Interviewed/ Waitlist/ Accepted (50% tuition 1st year, 100% 2nd year +TA) UCSD - Interviewed/ Rejected UCLA, USC, Yale, Columbia - Rejected
  10. Thanks for the thoughts. I went with my gut today and committed to UCSD
  11. I've been thinking about three offers, all with full tuition, but varying amounts of TA money (UC Irvine, UCSD, and Rutgers), and I think my decision is pretty much made. Probably going to accept UCSD tomorrow. It has been hard to discount the absolutely stellar funding from Rutgers, but like others have been posting recently, its about a lot more than just the money. Who knew that this part of the process would be just as stressful as the actual application part.
  12. if the video is embedded anywhere, you can see which URL is getting embed views, so we see application.skowheganart.org
  13. Hmm. I wonder how they would possibly know the former though? If I applied in December, before I even finished MFA applications, how would they know that I even applied or had been accepted when they are making their decisions in march/april?
  14. Thanks for the input! I think the funding should be comparable, although I'm still waiting for the details from SD. Thanks, this is good to know. I am an international student (Canada), and so I would only be able to stick around for about a year after graduating anyways. I am trying to figure out whether that makes those LA connections even more or less important.. hmmm.
  15. just got an acceptance email from UCSD! (on my birthday no less. haha) does anyone have any input on choosing between UC Irvine and UCSD? I have my own interests in each program, but I am mainly trying to figure out how much importance I should place in UCI's closer proximity to LA. Any thoughts?
