now you'll post rushed and frenetically in the name of science! haha

  7. don't be that hard on yourself. Take my critism constructively and work towards redoing your essay. remember. Define yourself. Follow with your background, experience, and explain why you would like to go to school X because of X, Y, and Z. Don't write me off on this. I've had multiple people tell me to do this and I never listened. now my SOP says I believe I am a great match for school X because of my skills in leadership, chemistry and etc related research interests.
  8. my mentor yesterday- "God bless us all."
  9. I read about the first 4 pages but I have to be productive today so I am going to cut to the chase and post my own. Second application season. "Why do you want to go to graduate school?" "Just enjoy it while you can before you begin graduate school"
  10. the first paragraph needs to define you! don't define the job field. the board already knows everything about that first paragraphs. briefly and come out strong explaining who are you? where did you come from? as an undergraduate from X I have had the opportunity to do x y and z. I have strengths in the following back grounds. I did this and this and this. I am asking this as a question for my graduate studies. I would eliminate the first one all together. Totally off topic. THis is about your application. AND why do you want to do to that school? Your personal statement should say, "I want to attend X because of my strengths in X, Y, and Z. This is why I feel I am a strong and good addition/candidate to improve the department. " you need to reorganize the structure. In each paragraph, you explain an internship. then the next you jump to something else like what you see is required in the field. Go more in depth with your projects. WHat skills did you polish off? Explain, and elaborate. Tell a story. Your paragraphs are too choppy. -3 years experience with my own.

at least your opting between two great fields :)

  12. I got a 330 or so for V back in 2011 and 510 for Q and the GRE scaled these to 143 and 144 respectively. that makes no sense point wise....
  13. Does anyone on here have any personal experience with using Magoosh GRE Prep? Would you mind sharing your experience in terms of old scores new scores, how realistic you might have increased your scores? I just need to hear it from a real user, and not one of those "Rachel just raised her score to 339!" Click here to learn how!"
  14. Why not try taking a practice test? Taking/prepping for a test may help your science skills dramatically.
  15. is it just me or does anyone else feel they buff out a shinier personal statement while waiting on schools to answer?

agreed, it seems like all tends to be more clear while waiting it out

  16. Thank you for your response, helps me greatly!!!
  17. I have a 139/144. Do graduate programs avoid admitting applicants even if the rest of their application was stellar?
  18. how much higher did the GREs boost up? how much time did you spend on the GREs? I am in a gap year myself. I think if I do them in the summer, I'll be giving myself enough time to do well.
  19. WOW! That's good standing.
  20. Hello I'm sorry but I barely get notifications on here! I recently submitted for Biologically Oceanography but my application was very recent so I am being whimsical about getting in. I know my POI did not have funding as of last August to take on anyone new so I decided to apply anyway to see if anyone else in URI wanted me. What an emiterus professor told me last summer that URI is highly picky on great GPAs and high GREs. They love great academic scores in that department. I hope this helps in giving some insight. Have you heard of any one being denied admission yet? Best of lucK!
