I read on the boards for last year's cycle that people do. I think some people put it under their Honors and Awards section as something like Fulbright Finalist.
-
You are right in that it varies. Say a country has 24 slots for student research grants. They will generally pick between 36-48 people (1.5 to 2x the number of slots) as finalists. That gives you a 67% to 50% chance of getting a grant. HOWEVER you are now going up against the best applications so it depends on your viewpoint on when the competition is at its fiercest. If you are not selected in that round, you become an alternate. Everyone not chosen becomes an alternate unless they choose to withdraw, but they do not tell you where you are "in line." You could be first alternate or tenth alternate. Hope that clarifies things for you

You can easily be entertained for a good few hours by just reading some of the headlines of Florida-related stories: http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/4435009/ I've lived here for about 17 years and it becomes strangely endearing hearing these stories.

Yeah Florida can be a bit crazy sometimes (http://www.buzzfeed.com/jpmoore/21-more-reasons-florida-is-the-craziest-state?s=mobile) but at least there is no snow.

I think the main IIE offices are in NYC.

15 members and 37 guests currently on here. 52 people?! Is this a new record guys?

I can't believe it was the second university shooting in two days. There was also one at Widener University: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/20/widener-university-shooting_n_4634584.html

From talking with my FPA, she has found out at the same time as the students. However, I think some FPAs might have the inside scoop because of connections with people at IIE. I know Smith College posted around 2 PM the day of the announcement the number of students who got recommended.

Funny tweets while lurking on Twitter for any news: "Hoping the phone buzz indicates an email from Fulbright. It's just your mother sending over a puppy pin. #womp" "Fully convinced that most #Fulbright applicants aren't #Twitter users. Cause how is it possible that no one is talking about it, this close to the application shortlist." (obviously has not discovered our anxious community of 30+ individuals) "Saturday cannot come soon enough #malta #fulbright #hopeful" "*sigh* HHI. Ohio fam w/2 kids moving to Rwanda. As you do. Fulbright Scholarship 2teach sports med. Wife put out bc pots/pans not included."

I also emailed my FPA, but to see if other country representatives might inform us sooner: Is it possible that if we are recommended we could be hearing from the host country before the US Fulbright representatives? I was talking to someone who applied for a Fulbright student research grant to Finland and they mentioned getting a survey on the 20th with a completion deadline of the 22nd from the Fulbright Center in Helsinki, but no news from IIE. Her reply was: I have only heard of the communication coming from Fulbright/IIE and not the countries themselves. They might be referring to when they received final notification of their status, not this initial recommended or non-recommended status which will come before the end of this month. Looks like she is just as in the dark about this as we are : /

For the sake of being able to 100% focus on something again, I hope we hear back no later than Friday. I was also curious to see if they have ever notified on a day other than Thursday and Friday and dug up this information from old forum pages: 2013: Friday, January 18th 2012: Thursday, January 19th 2011: Thursday, January 20th 2010: Friday, January 29th (they had issues that year with the Embark system going down) 2009: Friday, January 30th It looks like unless they decide a 5 year streak, we could hear news on the 23rd, 24th, 30th, or 31st.

We all cave eventually Welcome to Worry Fest 2014!

This is basically what my FPA told me too. As for the speed, I know that the level of contact with participants and the level of sensitivity of the information you collect plays a large role for my university's IRB.

So does say the voice of reason. I am going to go and (try to) follow your words of wisdom.

Love that this forum went from having maybe 5 people (max) reading it (including lurkers), to a current figure of 8 members and 31 lurkers. To quote our favorite survey, we are most certainly "anxiously waiting."

Good to know, thank you!

Lol! I realized two days ago the loss of Netflix if we go overseas. Is there something similar that you can access internationally?

My boyfriend and I have been together since high school, so roughly 7 years. For 5 of those years we were in a long-distance relationship, although we thankfully lived only about 5 hours away from each other. It's been great to be down to only living 45 minutes apart and it's been hard to imagine having an entire ocean in between us. He is very supportive of me applying for the Fulbright, but I don't think he's given our potential separation too much thought. He's the type to worry about things as they come up, so I don't know how he'll actually react if I do get the grant.
-
I think it's usually after they have finalized who has accepted their grant offer, etc. so it probably won't be until summer.
-
Smith hasn't updated anything on their page about their candidates, just an update about a Rhodes Scholarship winner: http://smith.edu/fulbright/news.php No news on Twitter either. Back to my assignments.
-
They seem to be really behind this year, first with the survey, and now this. Even though I'm not applying to a program or another scholarship, I hope it doesn't push back the final notifications too far in the spring for applicants who are in that situation.
-
Exactly! I decided to provide my main email address to Fulbright, not thinking that I might accidentally open my notification email when I'm at work, school, etc. I have now been checking this forum during the "witching hours" in the evening before opening my email.
-
I am seriously regretting signing up for automatic emails from the Fulbright student blog. I have mini anxiety attacks every time I get one of their emails before I realize what it is..... -___-;;;

I think Secret_Ninja is. You can also check the spreadsheet to see other people applying to your region.
