I think the person who heard back on 2/25 is a faculty member already here in the states, so I don't think it was the student grant (unfortunately for the fellow USF student who is still waiting with us.)

Congratulations!!! ^_____^

Any news from Peru or Brazil? It looks like historically they should be maybe the next ones notified. It looks like France maybe be notified anytime between mid to late March...hopefully I only have 10 more days to go?
-
I am assuming that research grants and ETAs hear back on the same day no matter what the country right?

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! Yay our community's first acceptance

Well you can tell that the next wave of Anxiety Fest 2014 is getting started when we have 10 people on the forum instead of 1 or 2. Here is a meme for those of us who are starting to get tired of people asking about any news from Fulbright.

@ Torrid and tieloran: Thank you for posting the emails
-
Fun fact I learned while stalking twitter for announcements, family members of state department employees are ineligible for Fulbright. I wonder if it's just immediate family or goes to even extended family members.
-
If I remember correctly from reading last year's forum, the emails vary even among people in the same category (like people accepted but accepted to two different countries).

It's the first weekday of March! Let the show (and madness) begin! *grabs popcorn*

Took my licensing/comp exam last week and will probably get the results on whether I passed or not the same time I should be hearing back from Fulbright...I think my email and I are going to become BFFs again real soon.

Hi Pradeep. Almost all of us (including myself) are Americans applying to other countries, so I'm not sure if this would be the best board if you're looking for information about the Fulbright research experience in the US. I do have a roommate who is studying here through Fulbright from Mozambique and she says that her stipend is pretty generous, especially considering the average cost of living for a student in my city.

Urgg that must have been so annoying after going through the extra trouble of sending it with confirmation >__<

Out of curiosity, how did people send their transcripts to IIE? I was paranoid about them losing my transcripts or claiming they never received it so I got a sealed copy of my transcripts and then personally paid to have it sent certified with receipt. My roommate (who is here on a Fulbright from Mozambique) said that she had to resend documents multiple times because they "got lost" so I thought it was better to be safe than sorry.

I actually contacted a professional who had worked with my family when we were living in France. She put me in touch with an American professional who had a better idea of the broader situation and he finally put me in touch with the French director of one of the centers I hope to work with. While it's good to do searches for professionals who would match your interests, if you know a family friend, etc. who is in country, it might be good to try and enlist their help too. This is more general advice, but enlist the help of Fulbrighters, past and present! I tracked down a Fulbrighter in Italy doing roughly similar work who I had read about in an article her university posted. I found her CV after doing a bit of digging and just emailed her. I felt very stalker-ish, but luckily she didn't seem to mind and met with me via Skype to answer some questions I had in regards to study design. I also happen to be roommates with someone who is here on a Fulbright and my "sister-in-law" is currently in Morocco on a Fulbright. They really helped me in revising my application. In addition, I met with a professor in my college who had gone on a Fulbright (at the PhD level) and who had been part of the committee in the Netherlands for applicants wanting to come to the US. He helped me identify weaknesses in my application which gave me time to patch up the ones I could and present those I couldn't change in a more favorable light.

Does anyone know why the header for the spreadsheet keeps getting messed up? (The cell that's supposed to say "Fulbright Notifications 2014-2015.") I think this is the 8th time I am correcting it and I don't know if it's from people playing around with the document and not realizing their changes are permanent or if it is getting messed up because of some other function I am not aware of when sorting, adding, etc.
-
That is amazing!!!! Congratulations, so happy for you! ^______________^
-
We could maybe add it as a separate sheet on the google doc.

What other grants did you apply for? (just so we can make sure that we are accurately cheerleading for you).

Although I'm glad the anxiety is over (for now), I'm starting to miss chatting with everyone After 3 weeks, I'm so used to it that avoiding the forum is hard!

Interesting information, even if a bit outdated: http://www.pace.edu/global-initiatives/fulbright-competition-statistics-world-region-0

@overworkedta: I love your blog by the way! Will definitely be following your posts I think everyone, regardless of if you got recommended or not, should go read this post: http://www.overworkedta.com/blog/2014/1/29/life-after-fulbright-life-after-defeat We will all experience "failure" and I think there are good words of wisdom on how you can grow when things do not work out as initially hoped. Another thing to check out, again regardless of recommendation status, is this speech by the amazing J. K. Rowling:

Yes! I agree with spainbound, that this is so well said. Even though I made it past this round, I could still not end up getting the Fulbright. While it would be disappointing, I know I have had many experiences where things actually turned out better than if they had gone as I originally planned, like finding my life partner or going into public health. You have to have faith that what is meant to be will be.
-
My feelings exactly! I also feel sad for all my forum buddies who didn't make it through this round

I have family that lives in Leicester It's a great city!
