Once again I got "tricked" by the Fulbright student blog update email. Current score: Fulbright student blog email 16.....Olivia 0. I'll beat you one day Fulbright student blog...one day.
-
I think what the Germany applicants did with just putting the time next to the email would be fine.
-
I agree that I think it would be easier to just do it by EST since that is what IIE uses too. Everyone who has applied who isn't in EST has already figured out their time difference when they had to submit their application by 5 PM EST anyway.
-
I get annoyed when I get "tricked" by the Fulbright student blog emails, can't imagine if my school emails also had that in them. On the bright side, at least you know your email won't block an email that says Fulbright in it?

For those wanting background music in your "check gradcafe, refresh email" cycle, here you go :

What do you guys think of including the time of day along with the date in the "Notification Date" field on the spreadsheet? I think it might save next year's applicants from having to dig through our forum to see times/what statuses got notified first, etc.
-
I'm obviously holding out for a few months for any news, but I am planning on giving them a little something. I also hope to treat the family and friends who supported and helped me the most in my application process to breakfast or lunch as a way to say thank you.

You deserve the congratulations to even get to this point! The opportunity in Thailand sounds amazing!! I guess worse comes to worse, you can accept the position Friday and maybe re-apply for Laos (although I can understand if you are just over this whole application process at the moment).
-
Congratulations Welcome to the alternates club. Why is Friday the "deadline" for you to be bumped up?
-
I'm a little confused on your options. Would you be doing the fellowship AND the full-time job potentially or is it a one or the other type of deal?
-
Thank you I am applying to France. Hopefully I'll go to Accepted so I can carry it out.
-
First Alternate to Accepted!!!! Congratulations Yanders!!!
-
Are you and your roommate in the same city?
-
Congratulations!!!

Silver lining # 2 of alternate status: found out last night from one of my classmates that the results for the licensing exam we took are starting to come back...stalking that physical mailbox is going to be seem so much simpler/less anxiety provoking now that I've been through the Fulbright wait.

Think this pretty much summarizes the whole stalking your inbox/suddenly surprised by Fulbright email phenomena: Found this on the always brilliant: http://whatshouldwecallgradschool.tumblr.com

Yay, good to see another ASD family member on here (I have a younger brother with autism)! Getting a diagnosis seems to often be a huge headache for families. My proposed Fulbright project actually looks at how having the proper formal supports impacts individuals on the spectrum and their families. I'm so glad your son was able to find his way and his passion

Sending you big internet hugs. You are clearly talented and are developing a strong sense of resiliency. I hope that, like overworkedta, an amazing opportunity will present itself that you wouldn't have been able to take if on the Fulbright. It might not be the original plan, but I've found that sometimes the detours lead you to way better destinations. I also want to thank you for inspiring me with your resiliency. You have been one of the people who has helped me to find the courage to maybe throw my hat back in the Fulbright ring for 2015-2016 if I stay an alternate this cycle. I understand if you decide to not post on the forum anymore, but I do hope you'll come visit those of us still waiting. You are great company

No. 9 is also accurate, those suckers can fly and are BIG!

I'm excited because today I will get a break from being so focused on Fulbright (although the topic is related to my research proposal). April 2nd is World Autism Awareness Day! Autism spectrum disorder is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the US. According to the CDC, 1 in 68 American children have autism. The WHO states that "[d]espite the high burden of autism and other developmental disorders in children and adolescents, these conditions have been widely neglected by policy makers and public health experts, particularly in low- and middle-income countries." If you see a lot of people wearing blue today, this is the reason.

You can find the link in my signature, as well as kbui's, but I'll post it here too: https://docs.google.com/a/mail.usf.edu/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsJrSSHnssqFdHNPell4VVZwWDgtWUpQcTVVeWM0bWc&usp=sharing#gid=1

Thank you for fixing this! I recommend that anyone that wants to run a sorting search or play around with the data to download the spreadsheet into excel and not do it in the google doc. This data is precious, we should handle it with care.

Thank you Mozartgirl53 ^__^ Positive vibes always appreciated.

It's my coping mechanism for all this uncertainty ^___^;; If this is indeed true, then I think this might be good news for me. Most people who apply to France want to be based in Paris, but I want to be based in Lyon, which has a lower cost of living.

Not sure if this is accurate as I found this off an online discuss board, but thought I'd share: "As I understand it, it's not that there are X number of slots, its that there is $Y of money, at least on the country or region level. So if someone rejects an offer to go to one of the places with the highest dollar amount attached to it, potentially even two alternates going to cheaper places could be offered awards."
