Does anyone know if there is a general rule for number of alternates a country might have (like the 1.5 to 2x rule for first round recommendations). Early on, I had always assumed that (at least for research grants) that anyone not named a principal was made an alternate, but that is obviously not the case.

Congratulations guys!!!! YAAYYY ^_______^

Got an email from my FPA titled "Fulbright Notification"..........it was to let me know to who to contact at the Office of National Scholarship if I hear anything when she is gone next week. While I really appreciate her thinking of me, my heart rate just went from 80 to 110 in 1 second. Clearly shows that I need to be doing yoga or something to be more zen about this.

Welcome to the alternate club aka Limbo. I imagine it to look something like this: Although it can vary widely, based on the spreadsheet, it looks like most alternates that then get accepted have found out 1 to 2 months after notifications went out

Welcome to the forum darce You are definitely not intruding, this is what this place is for, to support each other and share information (and maybe sometimes make jokes only fellow applicants will get). I didn't have a country interview so I unfortunately can't give you advice on that, but I know several people on here have. Will the interview be in English?

Hi overworkedta! Good to "see" you again and congratulations on getting that funding!!!
-
It showed up as " Fulbright U.S. Student Program" even though it was from Ms. O'Malley (eomalley@iie.org).

Congratulations!!

I received my notice at 4:36 PM, but I think the people from last year heard back from France between 11:00-1:00. It varies.

Or, as I've just noticed, for the Greek applicants either

It's not looking like good news for our Polish forum buddies so far
-
Very true. It's also given me a new perspective on applying for things: "Oh I could apply to fellowship X, I only have to wait 2 months for an answer", "Oh this looks cool and it's less work than the Fulbright application."
-
Right, but maybe it's the scholar grant (the spreadsheet says "graduated" so it is vague)? They generally hear back earlier.
-
I wonder if it's not one of the standard grants.
-
*sigh* you'd think there would be a straightforward program or document that would state a person's status or whether notifications have gone out.
-
I'd maybe call and confirm whether they have gone out or not. Even if it is a county releasing news over two days, you should have heard by now. It could be a similar situation to what happened to polyglot17.

Thank you for the words of encouragement NeBar ^___^ Love that video! Pretty much sums it up, although thankfully without having to listen to Billy Mays commercials on loop.

That's a good point. I have asked this question on the forum before, but I'd be interested to hear your answer: How much of your first application did you keep and how much did you start from scratch on (did you have your letters of rec re-written, etc.)?

Hopefully the "yes DAAD, no Fulbright/ no DAAD, yes Fulbright" relationship is actually true. Crossing my fingers and toes for you and sending you guys big internet hugs.

I'll see if she has estimate dates for all the remaining countries

It's more so my roommate than my parents. My mom was eerily accurate though about when recommendations were going to go out. She had said end of January and at the beginning of the week (even though it's traditionally mid- January and on a Thursday or Friday) and sure enough she was right.

I think being named an alternate has really reminded me of the fact that I don't know what I am going to do with myself after August. I love the organization I currently work for, but I doubt they'll give me a full-time job. On top of that, what I really want to do is not a position that is easily searchable or even publicly listed. It seems like the people who do that type of work carved that niche out for themselves at their respective organizations : /

That is true. Hmm... While maybe overly optimistic, until May 1st roles around, I am still going to hope that we will both be moved off the alternate list and get to join Neurona in eating yummy French pastries next year. If the waiting doesn't kill us first -_____-

I am debating whether to reapply or not. I will be graduating in the summer with my MPH, so I don't know if I can handle doing the application process on top of working 25 hours/week, doing internship hours, and my special project/thesis.

Did you find out on 3/19 at 4:36 PM too? Trying to see if France's results were mass emailed.
