Visitation days... what to wear?
silver_lining replied to BuddingScholar's topic in Interviews and Visits
I am fairly sure a nice pair of dark jeans (read: one without holes/stains. I also think darker jeans look nicer than the really light colored ones) and a nice dressy top are perfectly acceptable in my opinion. -
Help! How likely am I to get my offer rescinded?
silver_lining replied to HerpinDerps's topic in Decisions, Decisions
Not true. In order for an applicant to be accepted, your file has to go to the graduate school. The DGS cannot wake up one morning and take away your offer. The DGS will have to go through the graduate school first. And unless some major offense is committed, a DGS will not go through all the paper work/discussion with the graduate school because that will ruin his/her day more than spilling coffee. -

It is clear that you are not being deceitful as the grade was not on your transcripts yet. From what I've heard, once they accept you, they can't take your offer away unless you do something horrible (kill someone, say you went to school X when you went to school Y, forge your letters, cheated on the GRE, etc.). -

I like bright colored socks. When you are having a crappy day, it is great to look down and see bright neon yellow and green stripped socks.

This "coping" thing, I have never heard of it. Not in any dictionary I have at home. -

Congrats to those who have been admitted!

Sorry that I have to ask this, but OSU - troll or non-troll?

Just as we were discussing Duke here....
-
Fair point, but people are so used to identifying themselves as American/CP/IR/Theory/Methods that I wouldn't be surprised if he even forgot that Duke organizes subfields differently. Either way, they announced on the 1st last year, so we should be hearing from them soon.
-
The Duke admit stated on the results page that h/she is in the American subfield and that h/she is doing a dual degree with the law school (the comment was marked as spam by someone and taken down). Doesn't seem like a troll, but who knows.
-
wow. What a troll we have. They totally messed up your document. A bit racist as well.
-
They say that every year. The fact that admissions is "very competitive" is mentioned on every website. It would be nice to hear "The applicants are weak this year. Get ready for acceptance."
-
I wish each school would just set a date for when they will announce results and let us know. This would decrease the number of times I refresh the gradcafe results page and possibly prevent my lack of productivity.

Hopping enough for you?

There are more tricks in Word than in LaTex. Using the same font and spacing, I was able to fit more into LaTex than Word and it was more readable. *I am sure Professors can easily spot these type of things, so it doesn't really matter. It just made me feel better knowing that I was within the page limit. However, for some schools, I totally disregarded the word limit. I just don't get what adcoms get out of a 500 word SOP.
