  1. Who posted the acceptance for Brown modern culture and media?
  2. Hello, Does anyone know of any 1 or 2 week long summer programs that focus on media and/or critical theory? Something like the Cornell School of Critical Theory, but shorter term. Thanks!
  3. JCoe, It sounds like you have a great list of schools. I think it is worth applying to a couple of "non top tier" schools. If you get in to one of these and not to any of the most competitive programs, visit, talk to other grad students and ask them about their experiences in the program preparing for the job market. It might still be worth it if you feel really invested in getting a media Ph.D. and don't want to reapply. When I was applying I did email a couple of professors expressing my interest in the program / their work and asking what courses they are thinking of teaching next year. Most of them wrote back. I don't think it hurts. When you say you are interested in auteur theory, do you mean you are interested in critiquing auteur theory? I would be careful about how you frame that when you are explaining your project about authorial intentionality to a bunch of media semiotics programs Good luck with your applications!
  4. Good luck with your applications! It sounds like you have a lot of great options. I would recommend getting letters from professors who know you better AND who will be known by some of the professors on the admissions committees of the schools you are applying to. Do not worry about pestering profs to write letters-- they are used to it And the online application forms make this process very easy for them. For Asian new media, you might also want to consider USC and Duke.
  5. Do yourselves a favor and go to the programs that are best for each of you. Do not base your grad decision on a relationship. Everything in your lives will change once you start school anyway. Whereas suitable grad acceptances are rare and precious (this is your future!), there will always be opportunities for new romantic involvements. If the relationship is worth it, so is the long distance. Attend the "best" (based on relevance to your interests, funding, prestige, job placement record, etc.) program that accepts you.
  6. I too have found the gym to be a rare, satisfying distraction. This waiting process has really structured all of my emotional energy during the past month. It is such a pity that notifications are not better coordinated within and across grad departments. I feel like all of our frustration could be focused more productively than on mass obsession with a decision speculation message forum. I have had relatively pleasing success thus far with admissions, but I still find myself unable to put my anxiety aside. I cannot wait until the rest of my schools notify me with their final decisions so I can clear my mind at last and start focusing again on the ideas that motivated me to apply to grad school in the first place.
  7. I also applied to NYU Comp Lit. Is it safe to assume that I will not be accepted because I was not offered a phone interview?
