  1. Unfortunately I haven't heard from anyone... Preparing myself for straight rejections ?
  2. I looked into the previous years too, which made me feel a little better (but I'm still casually freaking out now). Penn State is actually the only HDFS program I applied to. I also applied to Wisconsin-Madison (Developmental Psych), Vanderbilt (Quant Psych), and UNC-Chapel Hill (Quant Psych).
  3. I applied to Penn State's HDFS program and I cannot believe someone has already received an acceptance. It's blowing my mind; I feel like it's so early.
  4. I have a developmental and quantitative focus so my choices are interesting. I applied to UNC-CH (Quant), Vanderbilt (Quant), Wisconsin-Madison (Developmental), and Penn State (HDFS-- they have a developmental methodology concentration).
  5. Oh, wow. I wasn't freaking out about my applications yet until I got back on grad cafe. I haven't heard from anyone yet.
  6. I failed my first grad school exam... Time to stop slacking and get my act together.

  7. My first day of grad school is today and I am so pumped!

  8. Thankfully she finally emailed me and let me know that she sent in the recommendation!! And I got the update that all of my materials are in the system! Let the waiting commence! Eek!
  9. I asked my past professors to write me a letter of recommendation due by Oct 1st (by mail) and I asked them about the letters in August. They all happily obliged. The first two writers got right on top of submitting the letters and the third told me she would email me when she mailed the letter. I emailed her last week just to check in and make sure she was still onboard and she said she would do it this past weekend. I have no idea if she sent in the letter and I really don't want to badger her about it, but the not knowing is driving me nuts! AUGHHH.
  10. The Ed. Psych. department did in January, but I don't know about the Psych. department
  11. I always love coffee, but lately I cannot stay away from it because it's comforting!
  12. Peanut butter straight from the jar, cereal, coffee, and cookies are all my kryptonite. Ironically, I have also been going to the gym a lot so it counterbalances some of the negative ramifications.
  13. Anyone else going to George Mason's Open House (aka interview day) next week? It's my first on-campus interview and I'm a tad bit nervous.
  14. I applied to both Wake Forest and William & Mary for their MA in Psychology
  15. I received my first official rejection this morning and I'm terrified to tell my professors because I don't want to disappoint them. Two of them are rooting for me so hard to get accepted to programs and I'm afraid I'm going to be shut out everywhere. ):
  16. I received my first official rejection this morning... Surprisingly, I was more upset when I was wait-listed at a school than when I was rejected.
  17. I was put on the short-list (aka wait list) for one of the schools that I had a phone interview with (pretty bummed because I really liked their program). Got word earlier today that I have an interview in a little over a month at another school and I still have to figure out what to do with the program that had an on-campus interview I couldn't attend. This process is making me nuts.
  18. Nothing really on the results board, but the POI gave me their general timeline and when I should hear back from them during my phone interview. I'm probably going to hold off on emailing until next week because, as one of my professors pointed out, my whole state has had bad weather this week so that is probably impacting the timeline I had received earlier. Still incredibly nerve-wracking though, the waiting is driving me insane!
  19. I was supposed to hear back from a school sometime this week to see if I would be selected for their on-campus interviews (after having a phone interview). So far I haven't heard anything from them and I am starting to freak out! I really liked their program and the POI.
  20. I know one of the schools I was talking to said that if a person cannot attend on-campus interviews then they will do Skype interviews instead. However, I haven't heard anything definite from the school that I cannot attend their on-campus interviews. I think it really depends on the particular school.
  21. Last week two of the schools I applied to contacted me for interviews! I had a phone interview yesterday and I cannot attend the in-person interview for the other school. I'm excited to see where all of this is heading (and hopefully I'll start hearing from other schools soon!)
  22. 1) My dad is in the military and has been for a number of years and my mom used to work full-time until she was laid off a number of years ago but neither have degrees past high school. One of my sisters went to a state school for a semester before she dropped out and then earned her RN at a community college and just recently completed her BSN online; none of my other siblings have degrees. 2) I am the first in my family to go to college (and stay in college) and probably wouldn't have been able to go to school without having my schooling completely paid for (thank God!). Overall, I had to overcome the fierce doubts that my father had about me being successful in school. 3) As a first-generation student I have done extremely well in school (I will be graduating in May, probably with honors). I was accepted for two consecutive years on a research team in my department. In addition, I also have been able to have jobs as a tutor and a teacher's assistant. 4) My professors have been amazing and completely believe in me and my success. I, honestly, would not have done as well as I have without having some of my professors there to believe in me and help me through this process (especially applying to grad school). Also, in general, I have always loved learning so I definitely have a huge passion for what I am doing.
