That time I got an email from one of my top choice schools stating that I had chosen to defer my admission from last years app season, and asking if I would like to be considered for admissions again this year.. (This is my first go around at grad school apps, obviously didn't even apply last year let alone defer)

Looks like the Results Page is showing a few interviews. Exciting times! I wonder if they wait til the end of the process to send out Rejections, or if they send them as soon as a profile gets moved to the "reject" pile. Also, any idea as to how many interview invites a school will send out– relative to the amount of spots open? How many don't make it through the interview phase?

How much did applying to grad programs cost you?

I just view it all as an investment in myself, and investing in my future.. This optimistic view is subject to change depending on admissions decisions, haha. -

@Kaister, I can give you my experience as an undergrad related to this topic. For my first semester of undergrad-reserach, my PI took on two undergrad students to be his RA's on a project that he had already designed. We studied the affects of reminders on tolerance for violence. Basically each step of the way he would have us do what we thought was the correct next step, and he would lend some advice as we went. For example, with the poster he had me write up my own version of each section, then went through and made it sound much more academic and corrected any errors. He was simply an onlooker for both conferences that we have presented at, and surprisingly he listed me as the primary researcher (first author) on the poster and in the conference program booklets. He said that I deserved this recognition for my hard work. My next semester, he sponsored and supervised an individual research project which was the perfect opportunity for me to sort of expand his work involving aggression into an area of my own interest– Sport Psychology. I am still working on this individual project, but he is no doubt there to help me with anything and everything. He likes me to try everything myself first, as to get the most experience for my graduate studies. Truthfully, he is about as good of research supervisor as I could ever ask for.

Nailed it!! 30 is historically my number, but in college I've worn 33 since my freshman year because a teammate had 30 when I came in and I just stuck with it EDIT: The person I'm wondering about is @Repentwalpurgis .... What in the world?? haha -

So being a first-timer, I'm hoping to gain some insight on what happens next in the process. I know every program is different, but I'd like to hear from some people who are more familiar with the process, and maybe even some current grad students. Do admission committee's start reviewing apps right away? Do they wait until they've reviewed all 600 applications before they begin deciding? Do they just keep narrowing and narrowing? I could keep going, but such action would be redundant.. Any insight at all? Hopefully even generate some discussion. The board is kinda dead and since waiting is so tedious, I check the forum roughly 25 times a day
