  1. Thanks Sarab... I "think" I am done with my SoP... I have a few tweeks and finished! I have been working with my university's online writing lab to review it for suggestions, plus I have used friends, family, coworkers, and one of my professors for my "review committee". I hope it works! NOW - on to studying for the GRE... not looking forward to it.
  2. Hi Mrgreen102, Actually for me, I need the SoP, because 2 of the professors who are writing my LoR have insisted I provide them with my SoP so they can write a focused letter. I only have an interest in 2, possibly 3 schools. One of them would be an in-person school and the others online. I do not intend to move (nor can I), as I am already working a full time job for a government entity, plus I am providing the only income for myself and husband. (He has been unable to get work for the lat 4 years, and he is going to school as well). Plus there are a few other factors, such as my stepdaughter living nearby, and my own disabled mother. This limits the schools for me. I am pretty confident that I will get into at least one of the schools, as I am not facing 500 competitive applicants. I have a high GPA, and I have everything else I need... just want to get the SoP completed (which I am nearly done, just need a conclusion), and then spend the next 2 months completely focused on studying for the GRE. I want to get this done by October 1st, because by then, all 5 of my classes will be going and I cannot focus on the GRE and 5 classes. That's my story and I am sticking to it.
  3. So far I have 3 schools I am considering: Sacramento State CSU Northridge (online program) University of Southern California (online program)
  4. Don't give up on your dreams!!! I am 38 years old, have been going to school for 14 years, and I am just NOW 2 quarters from finishing my bachelor's degree. I plan to apply to my master's program in October for next fall entrance. It takes time, experience, patience, self-confidence, a great support group, and persistence! Never ever lose focus on your dream. Don't try to do everything at once. Set small goals for yourself, and work to acheive them. You will get there, we all believe in you!
  5. Thanks to all for your wonderful advice. I am still finishing up my SoP, which I want to do to get it out of the way and then I will be focusing solely on the GRE. I have just received a LoR from a professor and it nearly brought me to tears it was so amazing. I am excited about building up my application, but I know this test can make or break me. So 100% of my focus will be going into that very soon.
  6. I wish there were free or inexpensive prep classes... it's bad enough that I have to scrimp pennies to pay for the actual test... I did find a few apps for my phone that have been helpful at vocabulary building. The hard part is remembering them...
  7. Hi Monochrome! Wow, I didn't realize you were so close to me. Have you been to the Sac State campus? I have a tour set up for Aug 5th. I've lived here 4 years and never set foot on their grounds. Thanks!
  8. I am applying to two schools for fall 2014. They both have pros and cons I have considered heavily. 1) Sacrament State University. Pros: 20 min from my house. Offers a great program Public Policy and Administration as one degree. They work hand in hand with CA State Gov. here locally. Classes are nights/weekends, and its affordable. Cons: Have to take the GRE, and the "final" is a Thesis Project, only admitted in the fall. App requirement, 3.0 GPA required (minimum), 3 LoR, SoP, Resume (optional) 2) CSU Northridge. Pros: Good program, affordable, classes are 2 per semester, good for working adults. Accepting students with 2.5 GPA, No GRE needed if GPA is over 3.0. No LoR's needed. Just application, app fee, SoP, and Resume (they require 2 years work experience), It's a rolling admission... they accept for Fall and Spring entrance. Cons: It's either Public Policy or Public Administration (not both). It's online, so you don't develop face-to-face relationships with peers or instructors. It's located in LA area (WAY far from me). Instead of thesis, a comprehensive exam is required. (I haven't found out if the test is proctored, of I have to fly down to Northridge) I REALLY like the program for Sac State, and that it offers an MPPA. I like the proximity, and the ability to actually create a social network with my peers at the school. My BA has been completely online, but I feel I am missing out on alot. However, the other program has it's good points too. If accepted to both, which one would you choose, and why? I am just curious to see what others would do in my place? Thanks!
  9. I have a LinkedIn account (free version) and it not only allows you to input your work experience and educational career, but it also allows you to upload projects and publications... It's a great way to connect with possible employers.
  10. I am working on a focused SoP for an MPA program. I need some help in reviewing and suggestions. I want to make sure i am on track. Also, I need to write a conclusive paragraph but unsure what I should say... I would appreciate suggestions on this too. Msg me if you are willing to help! Please and thank you.
  11. Are you getting ready to apply? The application date is October 1st for the CSU family of schools in California.
  12. I haven't taken a math class in 10 years. Although I am retaking statistics and microeconomics (I am going for my MPA), prior to starting the program. I bought the 2014 Kaplan GRE prep book, so I am really hoping that it helps. If anyone else wants to be scared/nervous with me... I'm here. PS - I have to have it done by at least November 1st. I prefer to have it done before then, but I need time to study...
  13. I am starting my SoP, for my application to Sacramento State into the Masters in Public Policy and Administration. I have part of my intro written, but I wanted some feedback to make sure I am on the right track. My department's requirement for the SoP? "Addressing the purpose in pursuing the MPPA". Message me if you are willing to be a review buddy to help me along this process as I go. Thanks!!
  14. Hi everyone, I am nearing the end of my undergraduate course work, and beginning to put together my application for graduate school. I am hoping to meet others here in the same spot as me, and getting through this with my head still attached!
