  1. I recommend Zotero if you use Firefox. Although it doesn't seem to work well with any other browser.
  2. I'll be nearby at the main campus!!! Congrats
  3. That is interesting, thanks for sharing. I was never too excited about living in Baltimlre anyway but I had heard great things about the program. I probably would've been rejected post interview even if they gave me one.
  4. Penn State Economics: (music intro) And I don't want to world to see me, cuz I don't think that they understand, and when Penn state says they reject you. then they could go and shove it up their arse, They could go and shove it up their arse.... (music outro) Creativity points?
  5. It's official - Penn State bound in August! :)

      PhDerp

      Congratulations!! :D

  6. I've officially accepted the offer from Penn State! I'm excited! Still a little worried since I can't start working on housing until my SO hears, but I know where I'm going!!
  7. Yale BBS rejection finally rolled in. About time haha
  8. I'm from NY and got my undergrad from a SUNY. I would say as far as reputation goes, Stonybrook has a better one in terms of sciences. However, Albany isn't too far behind. Albany is good if you want to stay in the area- the nanotechnology/science field is really up and coming in Albany. I would say Stonybrook would have a more far-reaching reputation. Personally, the financial situation and research situation at Albany would scare me. At the school I'm committing too, I have five options of PIs. Two seems like it's cutting it close. However, I think it's really up to you whether doing your first choice research is worth that risk. You seem fairly insterested in the Stonybrook research- maybe email a few PIs to see? Or look into if there are some PIs at Albany doing your secondary interest? Let me know if you have any more questions! I grew up in the Albany area.
  9. I would be honest and say something like "I was very impressed with _____ program, but my primary concern at the moment is finances. Are there any scholarships/fellowships/additional funding oppurtunities available?" That way, they know that you like their program, but you're not sounding needy or saying "another program gave me more." When I visited UConn the secretary asked me about my Penn State offer and said she wished they had more money to offer. I find they're pretty up front with this sort of thing.
  10. Anxiously waiting now for my SO to hear where he got in. Damn environmental science being so much later than our deadlines!
  11. I got an email that said "all applicants would be notified by May" from the generic Sackler email in January but silence since. When I was at Dartmouth, a girl there had been emailed for an interview. I've kind of given up on Tufts at this point.
  12. I may be posting one of those annoying pro/con lists soon asking what you guys think... Haha.
  13. I visited the MCB program and they didn't. I'm lucky I love close enough to visit for a day. Apparently they do recruitment weekend but because of a miscommunication with the graduate school not everyone gets invited. Did you interview for MCB?
  14. I just visited UConn and now I'm incredibly confused... Augh.
  15. I felt this worked against me at Dartmouth. A lot of people I interviewed with took multiple years off and worked. I think the work experience really made them stand out compared to me. (I am only 21, right out of undergrad) However, a PI at Penn State told me he preferred younger students because they have more energy and less distractions. (I'm assuming families?) If you're that passionate I would go for it. Worse comes to worse, you don't get in and find a RA job. Best of luck!!
  16. I'm a little nervous, but not too bad. I feel like since I'll only be focused on school, I'll be okay. I'm still in undergrad now and doing school and rugby and being an RA and working and everything else is a lot. I'm excited to just focus.
  17. So I got my official offer letter from UConn : half time TAship, but my stipend only supports me through May! Did anyone else get a nine month stipend offer only? Trying to figure out how common it is.
  18. Not at all. I think my advisor overshot my abilities. I'm also a big fish in a small pond at a small, primarily teaching college in a little science program. She's also a few decades removed from the whole process.
  19. Snow day for me! :)

  20. My mamas so poor she opened a gmail account so she could eat the spam!! Love south park
  21. I love how you used "rate determining step" yay for science terms!
  22. Princeton rejection finally came. I'm oddly excited by this! It's nice to have answers.
  23. They're offering me a $2,000 incentive to commit early. I'm also still waiting for my SO to hear from pretty much everything. Ugh!
  24. People keep getting real rejections from programs I applied to and I haven't... I know it may be good, but I have to commit to Penn State by 3/21. I just want everything finalized!
  25. Isn't kind of comforting to get actual answers and be that much closer to a decision... I still have so many in limbo I'm just pretending I'm rejected.
