I'm a biochemistry major with a minor in Gender and Women's Studies. I like that it gives me a break and it lets me work the other side of my brain. It has also improved my writing and critiquing skills a lot. I wish I could have a minor in graduate school, but unfortunately I'm going to have to use reading to continue my other interests. (If I even have time!)

Reminded me of you guys! Also it was mailed from my area... wow!

I didn't contact any POIs before applying because I didn't want to do it just for the sake - I'm not really sure what exactly I want to research. Also, I've limited myself to contacting each school once (the ones I haven't heard from) about when to expect news. Especially since some of them have horrible websites with no information about it.

I would reach out to whoever you had spoken to before. To me, if I didn't really want to go somewhere and I was sure id have enough options, I wouldn't take the interview if they couldn't work around my schedule. I'm a broke college student, I couldn't pay for my own flights! It seems rude to me that they can't accommodate you another weekend.

When this admissions season winds down take a look at the Fall 2014 Application thread under biology. A lot of people post stats and where they got accepted/rejected. Although it's not a perfect measure, it can give you a decent idea where to aim for.

Did you go to Boston yet? How was it? I still have no idea what is going on with them.

I think if you keep it to one or two you'll be fine, or not at all if you're uncomfortable. Just don't get trashed. When I was at my first interview people were ordering huge beers at the grad student dinner... One of the grad students was egging us on to drink, but I could tell the rest were uncomfortable. At least for me, the last thing I want to do when I'm with strangers in a new place is let my guard down.

Who did you call? I'm applying to ISP but I emailed the general Sackler email and got the most vague response ever.

I'd like to think they would appreciate you canceling now before they spend more money on you to eat, stay, etc. Just explain the situation and how you were honored with the invitation, but you are pursuing other options.

Next week sometime! So I have that phone interview and Dartmouth next week! I'm so excited.

That's what I'm thinking. I interviewed with/visited two PIs and one grad student while I was there. They have a ton of faculty though! They only do three three-week rotations and then you're in your thesis lab. Not sure if I'm a fan of the short rotations.

Penn State emailed me asking for a phone interview! Which is weird because when I was there they said I wouldn't have to interview again. But it's something! Closer to having an offer in my hands!

I don't think anyone here applied to UConn biochem but I'll post this anyway in case lurkers care: Uconn doesn't do interviews. They are in the process of ranking applicants, then a decision will be posted on the ApplyYourself website. They anticipate they'll been done in 4-5 weeks. Back to waiting for me. Haha

I have no idea. From what I gather, it's rolling. The rejections probably won't go out until late May. If I don't hear from them by April I'll probably withdraw my application.

Yeah and considering I'm going to probably have to make a decision by April 15 it's rather annoying.

Just got an email from Tufts ISP. They are reviewing applications and we'll know BY THE END OF MAY. Helpful.

My SO and I are currently applying to (mostly) the same schools. I've applied to all PhD programs, and he's applied to some PhD, some masters, and a post-bac program (as he says, the only thing he's sure of in his future is me... aw? Haha). Waiting it out is agonizing so until we both have all of our offers on the table, I've tried to stop thinking about all of the variables. As of now, we both got interviews at Penn State, so that's promising at least!

I got 11.3. No idea how it's relevant, but I do love equations! Haha.

Mine was two. I had a "presentations" section that doubled as papers under review since the titles were the same.

Sounds like some kind of glitch? I guess I would ask. I think we're all expecting you to get in everywhere so I'd be shocked if they rejected you!

Sending a ton of emails. Heard this back from Hopkins biophysics "The first round of interview invitations have been extended" and then apologizing that she had no further information. I guess this is maybe implying that there will be more rounds?

I'm starting to get impatient for all my other schools. They seem to be dragging their feet this year!
