  1. Also I know a woman who is applying with no research experience at all. No idea how that is going for her.
  2. There are a lot of people not on this site we forget about haha. People messing up profs names, not really knowing about the program, etc. Also some people just might not "fit" right, or their interests don't exactly match, etc.
  3. Boston is a fairly new program so I'm trying my best to be patient... It just seems odd because they sent a ton of interviews out in December. Also waiting if it makes you feel any better. Haha.
  4. Did anyone on here submit the Yale rejection via website for BBS today? Said they got an email to check, I have nothing... Hm
  5. The school I did my REU at, this was always the grad students first answer. It puts me off a bit because a) funding is usually dependent on cost of living in the area and b. I'd hope they could at least make up something else positive about the program.
  6. Questions for a PI: - What is a typical day in the lab like for you / or a grad student? - What instruments / protocols do you most frequently use in your lab? - What do you find to be the strengths of this program? - How would you describe the atmosphere in your lab? I try to feel out the PI on this one. When I met with a woman at Penn State, we went on a side tangent of things to do in State College and how her son played rugby etc. This may not be appropriate for some "strictly business" interviews. Questions for a student: - What is a typical day like for you? - What is your favorite / least favorite thing about graduate school? - Why did you choose school X? (This is incredibly telling - if they say "they gave me the most money" - RED FLAG) - What opportunities have you had to go to conferences, etc? - Is there a lot of tension/animosity between the students here? (BE CAREFUL HERE- I asked this at Penn State only at the grad student dinner and the student literally said "Ask me anything. Ask me that question they tell you not to ask." But his answer was really helpful.) - Where do you live, what are good places to live, do you have a car, etc (Logistics questions) I ask A LOT of questions Hope this helps!
  7. I'm not sure if I'm happy I have some hope remaining for Princeton as it'll probably just get squashed again... leaving it red for now haha. Also I go away for a day and there's drama! Tensions are high. Hope everyone is relaxing some.
  8. Congrats!!! That is so exciting! I just put my phone on ring just in case... Haha.
  9. Got an email with a fee waiver from UC Irvine chemistry... Wtf
  10. Are you going to the feb 6-8 interview for Dartmouth?
  11. Congrats!! I tried to upvote you but I'm out of them for the day (wtf!)
  12. Finally get my first interview... Get sick the same day. Why universe, why?
  13. I would email them and ask. UConn's portal still says they do not have my GRE scores but the program coordinator said they did.
  14. I just got my first interview today so there's still hope! Guess it depends on what schools / programs you've applied to.
  15. Is immunology under the ISP umbrella? I'm sitting waiting on them.
  16. Just drove by Cold Spring Harbor, thought of you guys. Hahahaha
  17. Finally got an interview! Much more relaxed now. :)

I'm much more confident in my ability to talk to people than I am in my SOP... Also Dartmouth's seems more like a recruitment weekend and less like a cut-throat interview. I'm really excited!

  18. GUYS GUYS GUYS I GOT A DARTMOUTH INTERVIEW!!!! Finally
  19. I had a dream that I got an invite from Stanford too! Except I was really confused because I didn't apply there.... Hahah.
  20. I can't really help in the stats area, but you could address the ADD in your SOP. I think they look favorably on applicants who address their short comings and are able to work past it. Also your record seems pretty impressive to me!
  21. I feel like it wouldn't be detrimental. You'd be saving them money and saving a grad student some hassle! Maybe word the email and say something, I have my own place, unless it's strongly recommended that I stay with someone. For me, staying at a place I was comfortable at would give me an advantage. I have a hard time sleeping in hotels and being around people non-stop exhausts me.
  22. Did you not reply to the interview invite maybe? It seems so bizarre that they would do that.
  23. I wish I had as much faith in me as everyone in my life does... my dad reminding me how all the schools I've been rejected from are top-tier and the ones I have left are great too, I just have to be patient... easier said than done!
  24. Thanks for the advice! Sorry to everyone on the rejections Next week is another week... thank god I'm going on a trip tomorrow and I'll have a distraction finally!
  25. Two years could work out well for me if I wind up following my boyfriend and he's in a two year masters program. I guess it would depend on whether I could land an RA job or a lab tech job for a pharm company. I think any experience will help me, I feel like my biggest weakness was my SOP or that one LOR.
