  1. The acceptance letter I received said something about an information packet or something along those lines being mailed out within the next two weeks... Hopefully that will shed light on next steps.
  2. Okay, not a guy.. but y'all are cracking me up. BEST. THREAD. EVER. Good luck with the facial hair.
  3. I have been offered a place in the Arts in Education program 2011-2012. Never would have dreamed.. Good luck/Congrats to all.
  4. I am applying to a field that I have, so far, not been directly involved in (Technical Theatre major to Arts in Education applicant). Not a negative - I see it as a totally obtainable challenge! For my application I've got: - 3 years as a technical manager of a touring museum exhibit (with a big educationally associated name). - 3 awesome LOR writers that know me well and can speak to my abilities and efforts. - A heartfelt and kick-ass statement of purpose (all my friends and colleagues say it's very "me"). A positive outlook is a great idea!! Keep the happy energy flowing.. good luck all. There are definitely some talented and amazing people posting on here.
  5. Everyone is excited/nervous, isn't this a good place to share the pre-decision jitters? Not to switch gears, but on the topic of the online application... does anyone know if you can access your Letters of Rec after your application has been submitted? I checked the little "i'd like to be able to view these" box (or whatever it said)and could until I submitted. Two of my recommendation writers submitted their LOR after I submitted my application, but I still would like to read them. Have a feeling I can't, but thought I'd ask if anyone on here knew how. Thanks!! Only a week or so to go :-)
  6. Sorry to hear about the rejections being posted. I only applied to an Ed.M. program and my application status is still what it has been (kind of a given that the masters students get notified later)... just FYI. Getting nervous knowing they are starting to send stuff out though. Good luck to everyone :-)
  7. Amelapay, that's a tough one... interesting though. Does anyone know if there is a place that posts the status of your financial aid application like they did with the program application? I sent the materials in, but wasn't sure I had everything I needed. I can call them if all else fails, just wanted to know if I was missing somewhere it might be listed without having to bother them. Hope everyone is having a happy February, it'll be March before we know it :-)
  8. Hm.. I might have to try pretending there is no calendar. I don't know how happy work would be with me just showing up when I feel like it, could be interesting though! Kismet - you sound super busy! That might be a more effective less "fire-y" strategy to fit into my work schedule...
  9. Just completed my financial aid info... which means I'm done sending stuff in. Frightening. I'm fretting over this much more than I thought I would. Hopefully the month long business trip will help keep my mind occupied. How's everyone else biding their time?
  10. you have an awesome profile name. Just sayin.

  11. "that's why I chose Yale" Youtube it right now if you haven't seen it. It's awesome.

  12. Definitely good luck on getting in everyone :-) Also good luck with the waiting.. still going crazy and trying to find stuff to keep me busy. What type of background are you guys coming from? The diversity of the students in the program is fascinating me to no end. Last night in my mad search for something to assuage my worrying, I found a bunch of HGSE videos on Youtube (perhaps you made it there sooner, I didn't even think about it) and they are pretty cute. This one specifically I thought was sweet: I am only applying to HGSE as well, I'm kinda in love with the program (even though it seems we just met) and I don't really have a desire to go anywhere else. My background is in Theatre and Themed Entertainment, I work as a technical manager for a touring children's museum exhibit. I like to say I've been working education adjacent. What area of the country are you guys in? I'm in California, and a little concerned about the cold... *sigh* but it is a sacrifice I'd be willing to make I suppose ;-)
  13. The waiting is proving difficult.. and it only just started! I am analyzing everything even more than when I did before I submitted. Are you both coming from an Education background? March cannot come soon enough. Good grief. :-)
  14. I posted this somewhere else, but this is probably a more appropriate place... I just sent in my application for Harvard Graduate School of Education's Arts in Education program..for year in advance so Fall 2011. Anyone else on here apply this year for fall 2010 or for year in advance fall 2011?
  15. Just started the waiting.. ugh. I'll be really busy Feb-March so it's only Jan I have worry about getting through. *sigh* Anyone else in the same boat?
  16. Could I please have a blog as well? Reading about everyone's experiences on here helped a lot, and I'd like to help too!
  17. I have been out of undergrad for 2 years now and am looking at going back to grad school fall 2011. My major in undergrad was hands on conservatory style training.. not a lot of research. How do you go about getting more research experience? What exactly do you have to do? Does it only count if your research leads to publication? I have a topic that I'm already very interested in researching, but I don't know where to go with it. Help please!
  18. I took the test on Monday and my experimental section did have fill-in questions.. but only the experimental section and they tell you which section it is (at least mine told me). Also, there was a calulator in the experimental section as well... I wonder if this will be a new addition soon.
  19. No, my work is not related to the field I want to go into. I'm looking to major in something different from what I studied in undergrad. If I don't use work references and my undergraduate work isn't related to the area I want to go into for graduate study then where do I get references from? Do several years of professional experience really just not matter if its not within the exact same field?
  20. Hello All, I'm having a problem with which direction to take for my letters of recommendation. I need three total and 1 is my mentor for my undergrad, the other is my supervisor at work (who is also one of the VPs of the company I work for) and I'm stuck between two different people for my third. The first two references know me very well and have watched my undergrad and professional careers closely. With that in mind, for my third should I: I have one of the owners of the company I work for write one. He knows me and my work really well and could write a good letter. my other option is a little more complex, but long story short it would be someone who is more influential in the field of study I'm going into but does not know me as well as the owner of the company I work for. He would be a work related reference and definitely knows very well the scope of work I do, but does not know me personally very well. So which do I go with... More influential in my field but doesn't know me well (but does know my job well), or Owner of the company I work for? Any advice would be great, thanks!
  21. I did manage to sleep in, go out to lunch, and see "Inglorious Bastards" in place of studying today... the only time I thought about the GRE was when picking vocab words out of the film, but that has become involuntary. Thanks for the reply, good luck to you too!
  22. I'm taking the GRE on Tuesday and have been preparing for months. I planned on studying Friday-Sunday hardcore and resting on Monday but every time I take a practice test my scores go DOWN! Hopefully I'm just studying too much... does anyone have any entertaining quips? Knock-Knock jokes? Advice on how to calm down and rest before the test?
  23. Yikes.. very good to know. Thank you!
  24. No no, never give up! However, you should also try applying to Jedi school as well... Jedi mind tricks are very useful in the realm of Cultural Anthropology.
