  1. I'd prefer the e-mail group, but if the majority prefer to post here, I'm ok with that. Hoping to have a draft done by the end of this upcoming week.
  2. I'm interested in this. I'm partway through my first draft now and would love to share SoP's with folks to get and give feedback.
  3. It totally answers my question. Thank you :-) And sorry my question was a bit vague. That's what I get typing it up at the end of a long day.
  4. I've haven't really thought about the special ed research route. It is something I'll have to stew on as I gear up for this. And it is definitely an angle to consider when looking for people to collaborate with down the road. I think your research thread sounds very interesting. Is there a specific population you're looking to study this is? I'd be curious to see if it differs in some populations.
  5. Haha! It is MrSmithUT. I was just too lazy to put it all in there that way when I created the account. ;-) I'm kind of all over the place on the biopsychosocial aspects. It could be something like use/abuse of drug among students (be it "hard drugs", alcohol, prescription stimulants, or others)......or looking to see how prevalent those struggling due to an educational issue cope with what I'm sure is increased depression (though would have to determine if this population has more depression than the "average" student in higher education)......or like you said, looking at exercise or yoga or other activities to see how they impact students ability to learn and overall well-being. As you mentioned, there doesn't seem to be a lot of people in this niche yet, and it excites me thinking about all there is to learn/study here. My master's is in Counseling with an Emphasis in Student Affairs Administration. I've also previously done a master's in the biological sciences, and worked a bit in clinical research in the medical field before coming back to school. Just feels like I'm settling into a groove here that feels right for me, and I'm excited to get more into it. :-) What are you looking into in terms of Educational Neuroscience? Anything in particular that you're itching to delve deeper into?
  6. Hello pearl31 and EduNeuroGrl! I'm also planning to apply to PhD programs for Fall 2016! Nice to see a couple other fellow applicants on here. My interests are in a couple different areas. One is looking at student persistence in higher education and the other is in the biospychosocial aspects of education, particularly higher education (sounds like EduNeuroGrl and should talk shop at some point on the latter one). It is a bit daunting looking at the programs out there, but I'm going to give it my best shot and hope it all works out. I'm currently enrolled in a master's program, and have been fortunate enough to get some research going since starting the program last fall (one already underway, the other just getting off the ground). I am hoping to get the PhD in order to be able to eventually work as a professor and be able to both teach and do research. Looking forward to getting through this journey with you two and the other great folks out there!
  7. Hey JBums! I am attending Mississippi State's program. Loving it here! Where are you looking to apply this year?
  8. Hey folks. Just wanted to wish y'all good luck on the journey this year. I was in your shoes last year. If any of you want to talk, have someone read a personal statement, or anything really....let me know and I'll be more than happy to help however I can. Lots of people here helped me last year, and I'd love to return the favor. Best of luck!
  9. Hey Spreadpeace88! I've applied to the CUSPA Masters program at UT. Hoping to hear some good news soon from them. Checked today and the status for my application is "in review". What program are you applying for there?
  10. I heard from them on Wednesday. The invite was for the Feb 9-10 interview days. Not sure if they sent out invites for the Feb 23-24 interview days.
  11. I feel the same way. Booking my flight today. Going to cost me an arm and a leg, but I'm more than willing to pay it for the chance to go here.
  12. Hey Meghan! I'll be interviewing there too. Are you going to be there on Feb 9-10?
  13. Congrats UNDERtheSEA22 and JBums1028! Wish I was joining y'all there. :-(
  14. Thanks for the news, JBums1028. Very exciting! I'm a bit antsy and nervous too. Hopefully there'll be good news for both of us here this week. :-)
  15. Thanks JBurns! Same to you! Hoping we cross paths at UCONN and MSU preview days :-)
  16. Thanks for putting my mind at ease, JBums. It seemed like a form e-mail, but just that "update for deferred students" in the subject had me thinking they have/had already accepted some people to the program.
  17. Besides MSU and UCONN, I also applied at: UMass-Amherst, University of Vermont, Mississippi State, Texas, Texas A&M, and University of Utah. I originally was going to do U San Diego, but swapped them for Utah.
  18. Hey JBurns, I'm applying to UCONN too. I know it's a huge reach for me to get into the program, but one can always hope and dream. Hope they'll be sending good news our way here soon.
  19. I got an e-mail from MSU today too. Guessing I'm in the "decide later" group since the subject for the e-mail had in it "update for deferred students". Keeping my fingers crossed for good news from here! Did anyone applying to the SAA program get an acceptance e-mail today?
  20. I'm applying to the SAA program for this fall. Good luck to everyone!
  21. Here are a few I came across while deciding where to go. (Note: Just pulling this off my excel sheet I had for programs I was interested in. Double-check just to be sure). They all offer assistantship funding as far as I know. UMass-Amherst: Jan 15th deadline Colorado State: Jan 2nd deadline University of Utah: Jan 31st deadline Mississippi State: March 1st deadline (but would need to be in sooner for assistantships. Was told to have it in by early Feb to be safe) Ball State: Jan 15th deadline Hope this helps!
  22. I'm considering it long-term, RedPill. Any idea yet what area in higher education you'd like to do your research in?
  23. Hey everyone, Been lurking a lot, but figured I'd post the places I'm planning to apply for their various Master's programs. Hope I'm not going overboard (since it seems like a little bigger list than most here). University of Vermont UCONN UMass-Amherst Michigan State Texas A&M UT-Austin Mississippi State University of San Diego Good luck to everyone out there!
