  1. Congrats! So you got an email? What are your stats?
  2. Poke around on the program's website or FAQ page. I've found the answer to this question on most schools' website. If not, I don't think it's rude to ask. Just explain your situation...you'd really like to attend but monetarily aren't sure if you'd be able to. Is a stipend or some kind of travel arrangement available. They might not pay for a flight but might help you find a student to stay with for free. One of my schools pays 50% of travel expenses.
  3. That's how I feel about UC Davis. They have one of the highest acceptance rates of the schools I've seen and there are very few posts.
  4. Although someone is definitely trolling the results because other disciplines have some ridiculous posts from tonight.
  5. Saw that. Could be an international student. Or they had a damn good SOP.
  6. I haven't heard anything about UW officially. I'm just going off of what the results showed last year.
  7. Almost noon PST and nothing yet from UC Davis on the results. Either no one else on GC got in (or has had time to post today) or they haven't called yet.
  8. I feel like people might be less likely to step out from behind the anonymity of the results search if they get rejections but there could certainly be a thread for that or that can be posted here if people feel like it. And while rejections will inevitably happen, I'm not a fan of dwelling on it
  9. I thought I would go ahead and get this started...post away you lucky ducks.
  10. What is your background? Those are impressive numbers so early in the game. I didn't know Vanderbilt had sent out interview invites. Congrats
  11. Is your application portal updated? Or do you think that will happen after tomorrow?
  12. Shewrote, Are you the one that got a call today?
  13. Enjoy the ride. What's life without a little bit of calculated risk? <--a line stolen from one of my GRE essays lol
  14. I'm not allowing myself to get worried until after the first week of February.
  15. I'm not at all religious but I do believe that things tend to work out in the long run so long as you make decisions that you legitimately feel are the best at the time, even if they turn out to be bad decisions in the short term. If you get to grad school and hate it, then you know it wasn't for you but at least you tried and then you'll know. It might take you a year or two to get back into the momentum of your life but you might find that going to grad school, although it made your life difficult when you had to rearrange everything when you decided you didn't like it, ended up being a good thing because of whatever trajectory it put you on. Or you might get there and it is exactly what you think it is and you'll love it. Just know that if you're true to yourself, things will work out some way somehow. That's my best advice.
  16. I started a new diet and exercise regime to get rid of all the stress/emotional eating weight I gained. Success so far!
  17. One of the schools I applied to has a visit day in March (or they did last year). I looked at the itenerary because I'm creepy and it looks like they had a few presentations, some tours of campus, some meet and greets, and some other social/tour of the city events. Seemed like it would be pretty enjoyable actually.
  18. Turbotax.com. I work in accounting and I still use it. It's free to use but costs to file electronically. Personally I think it's worth it for the convenience. Your former employer has until the 31st to get you a w-2. If you've moved you should contact them to make sure they have the right address. You'll also need a 1098-T form from your school showing fees paid. This is usually sent automatically or can be obtained online. You can write off books/supplies for school and if you have a car, the taxable part of your registration. After you input all that into turbotax and submit, it'll give you all the numbers you need for the fafsa such as net or gross income for 2013.
  19. Do you guys think they calculate their own number based on transcripts anyway? One of my schools didn't specify on the application what they wanted (last two years or cumulative total). I emailed and asked what I should put and was told (probably by an admin assistant) to put my cumulative total. I'm worried they might have actually wanted the last 90 or 60 units and will hold it against me for putting the wrong number if that's the case.
  20. I made a list of all my schools and the ranges for when they sent out acceptances and rejections based on the Results Search. Unfortunately, it looks like Valentine's day might be a bad day if I'm rejected from a few of the schools I applied to.
  21. A friend of mine on here and I were talking about this the other day. We likened it to one of those breakups where the breakup-er leaves the breakup-ee hanging just in case they change their mind. Like, I want to break up with you but I might change my mind if I get lonely or can't find a new significant other so I'm going to leave you hanging until the last possible moment. We think admissions is like that. They want to wait to see if they need to send out some late acceptances if a ton of people decline. "Maybe we might change our mind about you later." Or maybe they just want to torment us.
  22. UW. Last year they started notifying admitted around 1/20.
  23. Oh I definitely will. I've had dogs from rescues in the past and they are always so loving. Plus I don't support breeders whatsoever.
  24. If I'm not accepted this round I will: IMMEDIATELY get a puppy. This has been my plan for a while now. I have held off on getting a dog because I wasn't sure where I'd be living if I got into grad school. I will try to find a new job. I will start studying for and retake the GRE. Probably enroll in a few classes at my old city college for fun and try to plan a ton of trips with my boyfriend.
