  1. AuDguy, you were already admitted to a program? Where did you apply that lets you know so early?!
  2. Happened to me too! It drove me crazy.
  3. I think the 3.4-4.0 is the range while 3.8+ is the mean. The person with the 3.4 likely has other areas that are excellent.
  4. Tune up
  5. Lucky! When I was in the military I never had free time. I was in for over 3 years before I got a full weekend (get off Friday afternoon and don't go back to work until Monday morning) to myself.
  6. Hey SeaCsd if you still want someone to take a look I can. I'm pretty clueless on what adComs are looking for but a fresh set of eyes might catch something.
  7. That's a tough call, I didn't mention weaknesses. If they ask you about it, then you have to say something. But, my weakness is my less than stellar GPA. I don't have a good reason, so bringing it up would just be drawing attention to it for no reason.

  9. A good thing to note if you don't have a car is that there is a Cambus that will take you out to the mall for free. I'm pretty sure it's just on the weekends, but there is a Target and movie theater there. I personally live outside of Iowa City and drive in. My rent is much much cheaper than my friends so the cost of a parking pass it worth it. The commuter lot isn't as far as it looks on the map and busses come by often. Because it's mostly hopsital employees during "rush hour" it comes every 3 minutes and takes you to the hub where you can catch a bus to the downtown campus within 10 minutes. I drive 15 minutes and my condo is $750 a month for 2 bedrooms/2bathrooms with a deck, eat-in kitchen, washer-dryer in unit, and garage parking. And, unlike most of Iowa City it is pet friendly, so my furry four-legger is welcome.
  10. How are all of your applications going? I am getting all 7 of my essays done this weekend and keep checking CSDCAS for my letter writers to upload their recommendations. I'm thinking of applying to a couple more places, I am getting pretty nervous about getting in somewhere good. I wish I had unlimited funds so I could visit everywhere, its hard to judge fit based on a website.
  11. Audiologists study hearing and balance.
  12. I agree, when a school looks at your major GPA and your cumulative GPA it will be good. Everyone has those classes that were just more miserable than others for some reason. It's too bad you can't replace the grade, that is a strange rule.
  13. Did you add coursework for every institution you added?
  14. I think they are equally competitive. There are more people that apply to SLP but more programs, and the programs have more spots. Where are you applying? I have 7 applications in! My GPA isn't stellar either, but I keep telling myself those are averages and people with a 4.0 that apply to a lot of places throw off the averages.
  15. The only thing I can offer is I've heard there isn't any "shipping" its all electronic now. So, once you see verifed it should be sent to the school that day.
  16. I really thought more people would particpate But, it is good to know we can come here and find the other few people applying to AuD programs.

  18. Whoo hooo! I had given up on this forum happening. I'm and undergrad at U Iowa so if you have any specific, super-secret info you'd like to know feel free to ask! I just posted a couple recruitment notices to try and get more AuD people aware of this forum. Hopefully we can have an active group soon.
  19. I second that, all my professors tell us that faculty is the only LOR you should be getting. Specifically CSD faculty unless you are from outside the field.
  20. Biking is still a poor idea. Getting around by car is still the best choice, and a general awful experiance a couple times a week. Traffic is really bad due to the bases and the system of bridge-tunnels. One area that WAS really bad that is seeing revitalization is Oceanview.
  21. Sorry, I was at least on last year when I was still considering SLP and I know it was an SLP school. I know most of them will give the admissions but not those that actually accepted the offer. If I come back across the one I found I will post it. It would be interesting to compare the two.
  22. I have also been told that the admissions stats are also deceptive. The "admitted" people at a school you applied to that you feel is in your caliber also take into account all those people that think of it as a "safety" school. Those people with perfect GREs and 4.0 GPAs that apply "just in case" they don't get in at Vanderbilt or U of Iowa. If you look at some websites they give application stats of the current class, but I have only seen this a couple of times.
  23. Yumangous have you looked at Minot State University? It is very affordable and in a small town. http://www.minotstateu.edu/international/tuition_fees.shtml
  24. Sorry to scare you! All the programs are very competitive, as an international student your application will be different than a lot that UNI may see. Another thing about UNI undergraudate is that a lot of them have never lived out of the state so leaving for grad school is appealing. I truly do wish you luck, if UNI had an AuD program I would consider it. Also, if you like sports their teams are usually very good and the home tickets are included in the student fees. What made you pick UNI?
  25. I attended UNI for an out of field BA. I really like UNI, but they have a reputation for giving a lot of weight to thier own undergrads. Other than that, it's a great school and Cedar Falls is a nice little town. If you end up getting in there and want any advice on the area, feel free to contact me.
