  1. I don't know what your specific interests are but you might consider East Carolina or Virginia Commonwealth.
  2. Fine arts is not a field. It is a buzzword that nonsensically covers many fields.
  3. One person posted in the results section yesterday :/
  4. I'm starting to think The Grad Cafe is the devil. If I didn't know that someone else had an interview at Hopkins and UVA I wouldn't worry so much.. but I do, so I do.
  5. That's similar to how I handled it in my CV as well. I just bullet-pointed the projects I worked on and discussed the details of my role/responsibilities in my SOP.
  6. Accepted at NC State today. I didn't receive any email yet, but I checked my application status on their website on a whim and there was a link to the decision. I assume I'll get some sort of verification tomorrow...
  7. Congrats! Did you apply to the school of medicine or school of public health?
  8. I was only offered one weekend as well.. mop said there are 6 weekends total this year so maybe if you contact them they will be willing to schedule you for a different one. Me too! A lot of results coming in but none from the other schools I applied to.. it is simultaneously a source of anxiety and relief.
  9. I quit my job and just went to school full-time. My wife's income supported us so I didn't have to take out any loans.
  10. I'm about to graduate with my 2nd Bachelor's degree this week at age 37. My first degree was in Poli Sci from a SLAC and my new degree is a double major in Biochemistry and Chemistry. The way I looked at it was.. I still have probably 30 years of work ahead of me, so it's worth some time/money investment to get a job I actually like. That wasn't going to happen without getting a whole new degree so I quit my job and went back to school. Most schools I looked at (including the one I attended) only required me to take the courses needed for the major and waived the foundations/general education requirements. I took my freshman chemistry classes at community college so it only took me 2.5 years to finish the second time around. Like DTB's classmates I found the 2nd degree a lot easier. I treated my coursework as if it were my job. I went to the library at 8:00 every day to study, and if I wasn't in class or in lab then I was studying more. At 5:00 every day I shut down and went home to my family. For me, it was absolutely worth it. I should note that my wife makes enough money that I didn't have to go into debt to do this. If you do go back you should do it knowing how it's going to affect you financially and recognize it doesn't guarantee that you end up in your dream job when you're done.
  11. Congrats on another interview! Like Melissa said, it's probably best to accept the invitation from the one you like more and try to reschedule the other. I don't know for sure this year, but historically UNC has had 3 interview weekends so you probably have some flexibility with them.
  12. I'm fairly skeptical about that one too.. It looks like all their interviews went out around Jan 10-17 in previous years, and with only one person posting it's a little fishy.
  13. I like biscuits. I eat them. I was eating one when I registered. It was delicious.
  14. Absolutely. Are you familiar with the phrase "When you hear hoofbeats, think horses not zebras?"
  15. The vast majority of people going to grad school *are* going to be scientists - social, physical, life, whatever. It's a pretty easy assumption to make. I skip the topics that don't apply to me.. perhaps you could employ the same strategy.
  16. It's too late for me Perfectionist.. Seeing someone with a UNC BBSP invite has officially freaked me out..
  17. I assume s/he means schools rated in the top 30.. not that s/he will apply to 30 different schools. I would imagine that your work on your master's degree and industry research experience will trump your uGPA. If I had your resume I'd be comfortable applying to the top schools. Good luck!
  18. Graduate courses taken as an undergrad do not count against NSF or NDSEG fellowship eligibility. For NSF the limit is 1 year of full-time graduate study and NDSEG 2 years.
