Ladies, what type of bag or purse do you use for school?
ProfMoriarty replied to Student88's topic in Officially Grads
Backpacks? Seriously, hauling the weight of a computer/tablet + books on one shoulder killed me in undergrad. I wouldn't use anything other than a backpack for my back's well-being. Your body will thank you in the long run. -
MPhil Geography and the Environment! No news on college yet, though...

I'm heading to Oxford, the only place that accepted me

Minnesota should be giving wait list news next week
-
They just let me know the offer still stands with my actual GPA NOW I'M EXCITED AS F*CK!
-
Congrats, obviousbicycle!! Great season for you

I applied last year, before I was finished with my undergrad. I was coursing my last semester and taking 2 classes (1 taught, the other was my thesis). When I applied, I put in my average to-date, without taking into account these 2 classes which ultimately lowered my average to 4.63. My graduation ceremony is Friday. I emailed right away and they said the committee would evaluate my situation (alas, they are on a fieldtrip right now!), but to please email my transcripts so they can come to a decision. I just got finished doing that. Honestly... I would hope that 0.01 isn't what put me above other candidates and they will be flexible with SUCH A SMALL BUT PAINFUL difference. After all, my LORs, SOP and writing sample must have counted for something!

I was at work trying to get into a work mindset... having just been talking to a friend about having lost all hope,
-
Congratulations, every one! I received my acceptance yesterday!!! I'm having a problem, though,... the offer is conditional on my undergraduate average being 4.64 (what it was at the time I applied and, hence, what I reported)... I ended up graduating with a 4.63!!! Do you guys figure this will affect my admission ?

Getting rejected from ALL programs! -
A professor at Minnesota emailed me last night, basically telling me not to lose hope of getting off the waitlist and being offered admission. He said he is interested in having someone working Latin America and has offered to co-advise me (should I get an offer, of course), seeing that my POI is already supervising a lot of students. This is pleasant

Terrible. UNC rejection came in this morning. That was the last of the US schools I applied to. Now all my hopes are set on Oxford, which is a really long shot (still waiting to hear back from Melbourne's Master of the Environment program, but I don't really want to go there). I guess I can declare this application season over and unsuccessful.
-
I am way too anxious about UNC-CH! What is taking so long?!
-
They (Penn State) emailed my rejection about an hour ago.
-
Congrats to the UNC-CH acceptance!! I guess this means we should start hearing back soon ?
-
Who else is on this boat? I applied to Oxford with the jJanuary deadline, so according to their timeline I won't be hearing anything before the end of March... but I'm hopeful

I actually asked my POI where I ranked on the waiting list, and he replied that their waiting list isn't ranked. When I got the first notification, the email was CC'ed to the potential advisors the department considered for me (one of them being my POI) and it said they would contact me individually. My POI did so very soon after, saying he was open to questions. I took that chance to ask about my ranking.

Wave of Clark rejections... When I see these results and the agony of us here at GradCafe I wonder how on earth my professors who attended these places (UW-Madison, Clark, UCSB, Berkeley, to name a few) got themselves in, and if they suffered as much as I am :|
-
Minnesota sent me an initial email to inform me that I was waitlisted. Then they sent a second email with the official letter from the department. And yesterday they sent a THIRD email with the subject title "Application for admission decision" causing me to nearly have a heart attack at work... only for it to be the official waitlist decision from the Grad school. Hooray!

All my FB friends are being accepted AUGH!
ProfMoriarty replied to roguesenna's topic in Waiting it Out
Yes, yes YES!!!!!!! A friend of mine heard back within a few weeks of submitting the applications and got in at all the schools they applied to! I'm obviously happy for them, but I'm a little overwhelmed from celebrating with them, and accompanying them in the post-admissions process when I haven't heard any good news myself -

I haven't been accepted anywhere, but I was shopping for a present when I got the rejection email from UW!
