  1. Hi, I had got my first rejection this morning from UW-Madison.It is very unexpected because it is the only university that I can successfully make a contact to POI. In fact, I thought that I was a good fit in the research with the POI , and may also imply that I am a good fit for the university. I am not sure whether the rejection is due to my first round GRE (which is 161Q/147V, and is the one that I submitted in order to meet with the deadline) and the toefl (which is less than 92 the requirement of the department). Do you think that it is a good idea to send an email asking the department about the reasons?
  2. I think that I have an unofficial rejection. They send email stating that the universities will not send the rejection letter until mid April, and there is a little room for the left applicants. It would be better if I consider other choices. Well, it hurts me ..... ------------------------------------------------- Unofficial reject: 2/7
  3. Well, my situation is different from you just a bit. I ask them about updating my GRE scores after submitting my app in three months and two weeks, ago, and now, one university told me to submit the new official scores from ets. Personally, I do think that this will not help me get the school as much as a solid improvement on research experiences in the statement of purpose and cv. So, if you have the new research publications, a new perception about your future and your study, or the scholarship, I think you should send the email asking them, first.
  4. Hi, I got an update. After sending the email asking some universities whether it is possible to replace my previous score with the new one, I got a reply from Duke. It says "If you have ETS send the official test scores to Duke University (5156), we will add them to your application." Well, ...does this mean that they have not yet consider my app ???? or the university still considers the additional information about me ???? I am very curious at this point. I don't know whether I should feel great or sad. What do you guys think ? I really look forward to hearing your opinions.
  5. I am in the very same situation...
  6. I hope so, and good lucks for you, too (sorry for late reply).
  7. Thank you Ssynny. I appreciate your suggestions, and advice. ^ ^ I hope that you have good news from your first choice university, soon. Recently, I sent an email to the universities, but they have not yet replied. If there is any update, I will post it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Even if this road is rough, i feel grateful to you for being my companions .
  8. I applied to Duke University, Rice University, Washington University in St. Louis, and University of Washington for the PhD program. From the Grad Cafe result pages, some students had received the acceptance/rejection letter from the universities. However, I did not receive any letters from all of the universities. Thus, last night I sent an email asking the grad school offices whether they will consider replacing my previous score with the new one. I also included the total scores to let them make the decision. And,...... So did I. You are right that for most of the schools, the GRE does not really matter because they have not yet rejected my application. However, I am not sure whether I would survive, because I found that some universities, such as Duke and Rice University, according to the Grad Cafe results, did not send the rejection letters until it was very late (during mid April) for the applicant to make their decision. So, I sent an email asking them whether they would consider the new score. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By the way, I would like to thank you all of you ^^ . I still love to hear your suggestions. I have not yet sent the email to u of Washington because I am pretty sure that it may never look at my application. From the Grad Cafe result, I found that they offered about fifteen students, so I think that I might not have the chance. What do you think. I really want to hear suggestions from all of you.
  9. i got a similar heart attack email from an online course stating something like " Congratulation,... bra bra bra", and then I realized that it is just an advertisement. . Then my inbox turns back to the silent mode.
  10. Hi, everyone. Like most of you, I am waiting for a school. I have done some activities to kill the time, and among this activities, I took my new GRE. I wonder if I should ask the grad school to replace my old one with my new one which is higher. Do you think that this is a good/possible idea? Thanks.
  11. I have the idea to send them a email asking about my true status. Having non reply from grad makes me feel that (80)x(number of schools) was thrown away from my pocket.
  12. I am in the very same situation. My most recent one is 7 Dec, and all are in silent mode. This makes me start to ask myself whether I was rejected ?
  13. I appreciate your post. Admittedly, I used to try to avoid thinking about it, so as everyone around me . Because I am working as a research assistant in the same area that I intend to study, my plan B is just stay the same. I will make more research publications for a nice conferences, and improving my scores in GRE and Toefl. Still, " easier said than done" I hope that this torturous season will be fished within this round, and I hope you will be accepted by your first choice grad school, too. Best wish
  14. Well,... I will consider your suggestion
  15. Hi, My inbox has been empty since I finished my last application which its deadline is on March,1st but my first is on December, 7th. I begun to worry...... Do you guy have any alternative ways to see your status, aside from waiting for the emails. And, how do I check if my status is actually on the wait list. Many thanks,
  16. I applied to seven universities for the sake of the possibility to get into one of them. The schools that I applied share similar research topics that I am interested in, and thus, it is the honor to do researches with the professors. I am sure that my number will be higher and higher, if I still have not received any letters from the universities.
  17. I am in the same boat. Last week was the happiest time that i can take a long break, although knowing that I did not get any email. However, I pay such attention on checking my email this week. My heart is pumping, .... Still I have received none of emails from them.
  18. I feel depressed, yet I cannot stop thinking about pushing myself harder.

    1. microarray

      microarray

Hang in there! It's still early in the season

  19. I am also in the same situation, could you please suggest when I should do it when the final day for making decision is on 15th April. Honestly, I really feel frustrated because none of six universities that I applied to send me the letters. Thanks
  20. Hi everyone, I have applied to PhD program (Fall 2014 ) in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department in seven universities in the US. Please, give me advice...... Among the seven universities, University of Washington and University of Wisconsin-Madison have the deadline on the 15th of December 2013, and I found none of rejection/ acceptance letter from them, meanwhile in Grad Cafe, I found some applicants who applied to U of Wisconsin-Madison and more than ten people who applied to U of Washington, have been accepted. Should I assume that I was rejected ? In addition, recently, I applied to the PhD Program (Autumn 2014) in ECE department at the Ohio State University which its deadline was on the 1st March, 2014. I wonder if it can be assumed that I will hear something back from the OSU during March? My current status in all of the universities is pending. Thus, I am thinking about applying to Purdue University, and its deadline is on the 1st of May 2014, which is the round for applicants who do not require fellowships. Meanwhile, I found that the university had sent their acceptance letter to some students. Thus, I am not sure whether I should also apply to Purdue University..... By the way, if I should try on this university, is my current GRE is 167Q/147V 3.0 enough ? Should retake the GRE on April and submit my application during the end of April? Finally, I am also appreciated if someone will suggests a good university, out of those top ten universities in Electrical Engineering because the government scholarship that I received from my country has the deadline during August, for finding a university. If I cannot find one, I will lose it. Thank you for all suggestions and advice. Gap, Sntin PS. I published 3 papers in IEEE (international conference) during 2012 and my GPA are 3.92/4.00 and 4.00/4.00 in Bachelor and Master Degree, respectively. Though my GPA is more than 90%, I am not sure that the GPA will help me because both of the universities that I graduated from are outside the United State.
  21. Thank you to your advice. I am sorry for thinking too much. It was freaking me out because I am not a native speaker. The mistake can make my chance turned down. In addition, I did not really know how people will think about it. The camp is not known internationally, but it is famous in my country and it was the only activity that I participated.
  22. I have just found some mistakes in my CV. I wrote ' MU Robots Camp' instead of ' MU Robot Camp'. To make the matter worse, I wrote it three times in my CV and they are so obvious. Now, it is almost fifteen days after the deadline of 15th January for two universities that I applied to, and more than a month after the deadline of the other three universities. Could anyone, please, give me advice on what should I do. Should I contact the graduate admission in every university that I applied to ? Should I told them directly that I would like to update my CV or what reasons I should give them ? Thank you.
  23. Me, too. I have just found some mistakes in my CV. My mistake is far more ugly. I wrote ' MU Robots Camp' instead of ' MU Robot Camp'. (I still wonder why I added 's' there) To make the matter worse, I wrote it three times in my CV and they are obvious. Now, it is almost fifteen days after the deadline of 15th January. Could you give me advice on what should I do. Should contact the graduate admission to update my new CV ? Thank you.
  24. Thank you PhDSeeking14 and Ground truth Your comment helps me shape my direction
