  1. Neither of the books mentioned anything about a caculator...I think that person was referring to the two books that were put on this post as links.
  2. Hi, my friend and I went to the library yesterday to study for the GRE together. We each have different study guides and they are both 2009 editions. However, they were very different. Mine tells us that there will be 28 math questions to take in 45 minutes whereas my friend's book says there are 60 math questions to be taken in 60 minutes. Also, her book shows that the math section will throw in symbols such as hearts and stars to throw the student off but my book says absolutly nothing about that! I am so confused and worried now after seeing that our books are sooooo different. I am wanting to know from those of you who have taken the GRE, are there symbols on the test? How long is the math and verbal sections? Anything else you would like to add would be appreciated! Thank you very much!
  3. Serric and thepoorstockinger: Thank you both for your responses! Great advice! I have done tons of research on all the deadlines and what specifically each program is looking for on the application. I have looked up SoPs for my field but the examples I found all seem way out of reach for what I have done. Reading these examples seem to make me feel worse about the whole process because I think to myself that if these programs are expecting what are in these fake SoPs, then there is no way I'm going to get in. But then again I know that these examples are not entirely applicable (for example, I recall one stating: When I was 6 years old, I went on a missionary trip to India. While there I had to do emergency brain surgery on a woman who I just pulled out of a burning building. That's how I knew I wanted to become a brain surgeon). Oh come on!! Like that ever happened! Geez!
  4. Anybody else care to share?
  5. I am still looking for more advice...any is accepted. Thanks!
  6. Thank you...the thing is that there are not very many Universities here in TX that offer the School Psychology grad program and out of all of them, the university I am currently at has the best program (in my opinion). And out of state schools are not an option, I have sick parents and cannot leave them.
  7. Jasper: thank you for your reply. That helps me out to hear that...I was beginning to worry about who all I was going to have to get in order to have enough LORs. I also wondered if having the director write me LORs for other universities would negatively affect my chances of getting in since it shows that I am considering other schools and not just her program. I know that is silly to think beings I am 100% positive she knows that students should apply to more than 1 grad school, but still, I worry she might think that because I am asking her to write for other schools as well, that I am not serious about this school. I guess if I do get on the research team, somewhere down the road I can make it clear that this school is the only grad program I really want to get into. I am worrying myself about something that I don't even know yet if it is going to happen! Good grief...the grad school application process is already getting to me and the semester hasn't even started yet!
  8. Hello, I am wanting to do research this coming semester and one professor is gathering a research team at my university and she has the same interests as me...so it is pretty much a good match assuming that I get on the research team. I obviously wanted my research supervisor to write me a strong LOR if they were willing. So here is my question: I am applying to the Specialist in School Psychology grad program and the professor that I want to do research with also happens to be a School Psychologist and the Director of the program. Would she write the LOR since she technically would be writing the letter to herself? Even though I really only want to go to the school I am currently at, I am going to apply to other schools as well and I know she would write the letter for the other grad programs but will she tell me I need another recommender for her program? Any help or advice is appreciated!
  9. Stories: That was what I had in mind doing
  10. Hello, I am a senior looking to apply to some grad schools at the end of this year. The only thing that I really need to get on my cv is research experience. I don't really know how to go about getting into research. Should I just email the professors who have the same interests as me and see if they are doing any research and could take me on? I only have this fall semester to get it done so any help or personal stories would be great! Thank yall!
  11. Haha, don't worry, I won't. I only did that here because it would not all fit in the subject area.
  12. Hi, I am new to this forum and have been lurking and reading a lot on here for the last couple of days. This forum is full of great info and well informed ppl! I am using this summer to do some volunteer work counseling at a pregnancy center and studying for the GRE. My senior year starts Sept. 1 and I am preparing to apply to Specialist in School Psychology grad programs at the end of this year. My biggest concerns are the LORs because I am not that "intouch" with my professors at my university but I plan on getting to know them better this semester. I am also fretting over the SOP as I am not sure where to start or what to say. I am looking for any advise you would like to give me...the do's and don'ts, stories from your experience, etc. I have one grad school program here in Texas that I want to get into with a bad passion and it makes me sick just thinking about waiting for the reply. Thankfully, reading the posts on this forum have helped me a bit. I look forward to yall's responses.
