  1. Hello y’all, I have a few questions concerning the small stuff that goes into the application process (and yes, I know...I shouldn't worry too much about this stuff, but since I have all the big stuff pretty much completed, I wanted to go over the small stuff ). Okay, so here are my questions: 1. What type of paper are you printing everything off on? (For the SOP and cover letter, are you using regular white computer paper, or better quality? And for the CV, what type of resume paper are you using, if you are using any at all?) 2. Are you putting a header on your SOP, and if so, do you put your name, university, and page number? 3. Are you stapling your SOP together as well as your CV? If you have to send in a cover letter, do you staple that to something? 4. On the postcards you send in with your LORs and application packet, what do you write on them so they know to put it in the mail? (Ex: Please drop in mail, Thanks. ??) 5. What type of envelope do you send your application packet in? The bigger envelope so your materials do not have to be folded? That's all the questions I have for now, lol. I know this stuff isn't all that important, but I am very meticulous about small details. I really appreciate your time in answering my questions! Thank you so much!
  2. You should definitely send one in. The director of my top choice program told me that in the cover letter, which is required for that program, I could talk about any GRE or GPA concerns. It is mainly a letter stating that you are interested in their program. You can also include anything that you feel you did not have room for in your SOP. In sum, if they ask for one, you should most definitely send one in!
  3. What types of questions are asked during an interview for grad school?
  4. Hopefully my LOR writers will put the return address on there.
  5. Thank you to those who replied. I ended up using regular letter envelopes that were stamped and also included postcards. I didn't address the envelopes in fear that the profs would put a letter in the wrong envelope.
  6. Thank you two. It will not let me leave any fields blank...so I guess if something does not apply, I will put "NA." Any others have suggestions?
  7. Hello, I am applying online right now to grad school and I have come to a stop. It is wanting me to fill out: all honors, financial assistance, awards, fellowships, scholarships and assistantships received. These are the three things I have to fill out for each that I do not understand: Designation Grantor In Recognition Of I am putting my scholarships and grants in these places. I was putting the grant and scholarship name in the "Grantor" spot and was putting my name in the "In Recognition Of" spot, but I do not think that is correct. PLEASE HELP ME! Thank you.
  8. Hey LTee, I see we are both going into the same field. This school that you are talking about doesn't happen to be ACU does it? If so, I will have further comment.
  9. Hello, I am giving my LOR writers the required materials on Thursday and I was wondering what type of envelopes do I give them? I am also going to be giving them stamps and postcards to put in the envelopes as well so they will be sent back to me confirming the admission committee received them. Is this correct? Am I forgetting anything? Thank you soooo much!
  10. I do volunteer work at a pregnancy center doing peer counseling. I ask the new director today if she would write me a LOR, and she said yes. She has a Masters in Counseling and assured me she would write me a good LOR even though she is new to the place and I have been there for 6 months. I was wondering if I should ask the old director to write me a LOR. She knows me so much better but is no longer with the organization. She is currently working on her Masters. Would it look bad if I had two people from my volunteer place to write me LORs? If you think it is alright, what should I tell the lady that used to be the director to put as her title since she is not longer director? Maybe "Former Supervisor?" I have one professor who is going to write me a LOR but I have kind of run out of people to ask. Thank you so much!

I really like this new feature!
  12. I'm really sorry to hear that. You need to stay positive right now b/c you still haven't heard back from all your schools yet. You should tell your family about the two schools you didn't get accepted to b/c they are the support you need right now. Depression is a hard thing to go through alone and your family is going to love you no matter what happens. I'm sure you will get into another school.
  13. I am full time....I want to finish my degrees asap!
  14. My scores didn't correlate to my socio-economic background (although I wish they had). But I can see the reasoning behind what you are saying here. People with lower SES normally (not always) have lower education or go through an education system that does teach as well as education systems that provide for people with higher SES. However, with that being said, people that are taking the GRE have either already achieved a BS or BA degree or are about to achieve it. That means these people are pretty intelligent, especially if they plan on going into grad school. Some people that take the GRE are from low socio-economic backgrounds, some from middle, and some from high...it is my opinion that if they are taking the GRE to get into grad school, than they have pushed past what their SES was supposed to limit them to and achieved greater things. At the university I am currently at, they have a GRE fee waiver if you are on financial aid. My school tries to help people out with lower income as much as they can so they have equal chances at succeeding as anybody else does.
  15. Good deal!!! YAY! I'm happy for you!
  16. Could you post specifically what the school is asking for in the SOP? I always find it easier to critique if I know what the school is asking for.
  17. I'm not sure that there really is anything that you can do, unless you feel that this department is the one you are meant to go into and decide to put off grad school for another year and try again later. But maybe this is working out for the best. I believe that everything happens for a reason and maybe this is the universe's way of telling you that you were not supposed to go to this school. Maybe there is another school that is going to accept you with full funding and you will go further there than you would have anywhere else. I know it may not seem like that right now b/c it is your top school, but maybe in 50 years you will look back and be glad you didn't go there and realize that you wouldn't have gotten as far if you had gone there.
  18. Thank you so much! I also like "Upcoming" b/c it shows that I will be doing it.
  19. "Expected" is a good idea. I just wanted the grad school admission committee to see that I would be doing an internship that is highly relevant to the program. Thanks for your response. Anybody else?
  20. I agree with the other posters...however, I must say that I love your topic description...totally cracked me up!
  21. I used the 2010 edition of that book. The only thing I found wrong with it was the math section where you fill in the blank yourself with no multiple choice answers. However, because it was the 2010 edition, that info was correct because that section will be on the 2010 GREs...just not the test I took.
  22. I. HATE. THE. GRE!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Hello, I am going to be doing an internship my last semester of undergrad (Spring '10) that is very relevant to the grad program I will be applying to. Here is the situation: I am going to turn my applications in at the end of December and do not start the internship until the beginning of February. I am wondering if I can still put this internship on my CV? If so, what do I need to say about it? Do I need to put "Starting Feb 1" and list my job objectives that the agency gave me? Just in case you need to know, I already have my contract with the agency filled out and turned into my intern professor--so it is a sure thing that I will be doing the internship. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!
  24. You can send it to me as well and I will go over it.
  25. I'll take a look if y'all still need someone to look over them.
