  1. Hello. I have been working on my CV for my application to grad school. I will be presenting a poster for my experimental psychology class at the end of the semester and I was wondering how I put that on my CV? What do I list it under? What do I need to say about it? Any other things I need to add that I may not know about? Also, I am on a research team researching teen pregnancy, perceptions of schizophrenia, social identity, and a couple of other things. How do I put this on my CV? Do I need to put the professor's name on there (the person conducting the research)? What all do I put under this section? Any advice will be appreciated! I have searched for CV examples with these items on there, but have had no luck finding any...if ya'll know of some, please give me the links. Thank you soooooo much for your help!
  2. It sucks doesn't it. My GPA will go up after I send my application in as well. Since you already have a 3.69, they will probably know that it will be higher by next semester.
  3. I studied all summer long for the GRE using a Princeton Review book and made 1,000 flashcards and memorized all of them. I used PowerPrep and the online practice that came with the book. Then I took the GRE at the end of August the first time and thought I was doing great on the verbal and poorly on the math. However, my scores reflected just the opposite...good math score, bad verbal. Then I began studying again and I also took a free GRE crash course. This time around (took test yesterday) I thought I was doing great on both parts. All the words were words I had memorized and knew and for all of the math questions, I was solving them on paper and my answer was always present on the screen. But I did awful on both sections. I just don't get it!! On a slightly happier note, the director of the program I am most interest in just told me that they consider everyone who turns in a completed application and that some of their best students this year didn't even make their GRE preference score. Another school I am interested in doesn't even require the GRE...so I guess there is still hope!
  4. I wish I could get my scores that high!! I have taken the test twice now and have studied and studied and I'm not getting the payoff. I don't know what I am doing wrong. While I'm taking the test, I feel like I am doing sooooo well and then I get my scores and almost have a stroke! I HATE THE GRE!!!!!!
  5. I am soooooooo jealous of your score; I just took the stupid thing again for the 2nd time, today. I am getting really frustrated with the stupid GRE!!! I study and study and it is just not paying off. I would really hate to not be accepted into grad school just because of my GRE scores! I think your scores are awesome, but they may be because my scores are terrible. I don't really know that much about what PhD programs want because I am trying to get into a Specialist program. Good luck with everything!
  6. That's lucky!! My programs have a required 500 verbal and 500 quant score. I wish my programs only looked at one side so I had only one thing to focus on!
  7. Yea, that is pretty early. My first deadline is Feb 1. Hopefully I will be sending it all off at the end of Dec or beginning of Jan.
  8. I don't care what anybody says about the GRE (in terms of why it is important). Some people just don't do well on standardized tests no matter how well they do in all other areas. In my opinion, the GRE is a big scam...but then again I am probably biased at the moment because I am going through my second round of GRE study torture! What really gets me is that some grad programs don't even require the GRE...if someone can get into program A at University X without taking the GRE, why can't another student get into program A at University Y without taking the GRE? For example, I know about several Social Work grad programs in my area because a few of my friends are going into social work. One program they are applying to doesn't require to GRE to be admitted while another program does. All of the other requirements are the same. What gives? If I were going to hire a social worker, I'm pretty sure I would care less as to whether they took the GRE or not. As long as they are competent and get the job done. Like I stated in my status update: GRE---You are on my list!!
  9. AMEN CHEESETHUNDER!!! You would think that by making it through undergraduate school would be proof enough that we can handle graduate school, considering our GPA. The GRE is just a big scam to steal our money, stress us out, and give us low self-esteem! That's right, I said it!!!
  10. Will do!
  11. I agree with you...the time limit blows!
  12. Okay, thank you. I also wanted to add a good thing about the new forum layout...I really like the status update feature. That is one change I really enjoy!
  13. Ohhhh, good tips. I didn't even know about the highlighting thing. That would definatly come in handy! Also, writing the topic and stuff down for each paragraph is also really good advice. Thank you!!
  14. I am retaking the GRE this Wednesday (the 21st) and I need advice on the reading comprehension portion. I know what you may be thinking: "That is the easiest part of the verbal because the answers are practically given to you." Well, it is not so easy for me. I am a slow reader and I think that maybe I stress out that I am wasting so much time reading that I am not even paying attention to what I am reading. Any tips or advice on how to do well on this section would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!
  15. No joke...those reading comprehension questions get me too!
  16. I didn't think you were being defensive. What I meant by the spell check thing was that when I click on the ABC spell check link, it pops up with a box that states: "ieSpell was not detected. Click OK to go to the download page." Then it gives you the option of "OK" or "Cancel." When I click the "OK" option, it pulls up another webpage and states: "Important - ieSpell is free for personal use only. Commercial use requires a separate license. See Licensing for more information." It wants me to download something but I have not done so because I do not really know what it's going to do. In other words, instead of checking my spelling when I click on the ABC link in the upper right corner of the text box, it prompts me to download something. Hope this makes sense.
  17. I think everybody is saying "functional" merely because we were used to the old version and knew how to operate it...whereas with the new version, it is not automatically "functional" because we are still trying to figure the new changes out. I will become more functional with the more we mess around with it. P.S. why do I have to download spellcheck on my own? It says this website needs a license to use spellcheck.
  18. I find the GRE kinda hard...I'm not a math person! However, on the actual test, I made higher on the math and the verbal which was totally unexpected. I am taking it again this coming Wednesday (the 21st). Wish me luck...I need it!
  19. Not a big fan of change! Although the new format looks good, it is not as functional as the old. It will take some getting use to.
  20. When I called, the guy I talked to said that he didn't know if that was possible and that if it was he didn't know who to inform. Haha. Oh well, what's done is done.
  21. I have looked everywhere on the ets website about cancelling my scores from going to a school that I sent them to last Thursday but I cannot find anything about it. I guess I will call one of those ets phone numbers tomorrow and ask about it but I thought I would get yall's opinions. Thank you!
  22. Thank you for posting this! I always like to see everyone elses stats...I'm very nosey!
  23. That is good to know!
  24. Yeah, I am sooo mad at myself about sending the scores! I sent mine to the three schools like an idiot and kept telling myself afterwards that I should have not sent them to the school I am most interested in! I should have waited till I retested to send the new scores! Oh well, you live and you learn!
  25. Yea, why does life have to get so complicated? Remember the gool 'ole days when our parents did everything for us? Haha, oh well, it will all work out in the end!
