  1. Absolutely keep your pet!!! You wouldn't give up your child just because you are going into grad school. My animals are my babies...although I am not in grad school yet, my animals will definitely be a top priority when I do start grad school.
  2. Oh, I hear ya and the others who have said this. My concern is that the director will know when she reads my cover letter that I didn't follow her direction if I leave it out and I don't want that to look bad. She will remember me b/c this is a relatively small school and program. The point of this is because the rest of my application is totally opposite...making awesome grades and all. The GRE just seems to be my weak point and she wanted me to point out that I really tried my hardest, despite all that is going on in my life that could have prevented me from studying at all.
  3. I believe the reason the director wanted me to talk about the amount of hrs I put into studying is so it looks like I actually dedicated myself to studying and didn't just show up at the testing center with no studying and then just give up after two attempts. I think she wanted me to demonstrate that I put a lot of effort into the GRE and actually tried.
  4. I was informed by my professors to print the CV on fancy paper.
  5. No, I am not turning in a writing sample b/c they do not ask for one and they specifically state that they do not want anything less or anything more than what is required for the application. And yes, the director told me I should mention the hrs specifically...but I just don't know how to do that. The reasoning she gave as to why I should put the hrs in the letter made very good sense at the time, I just don't exactly remember why it made sense at the time. We covered a lot of stuff that day and it is all kinda a blur now. She really relieved my worries though.
  6. I will as well if you still need some more people.
  7. Well, my big problem with the GRE was my verbal score, which is weird b/c English is my first language and in high school and undergrad, English was my best subject. The director pointed out that I am very articulate and was using advanced vocab and using it correctly...stating that she could tell that my verbal score didn't reflect me. There is really no way to say that in my cover letter without sounding cocky and without dropping her name (which would be very bad etiquette in this case). Also, we talked about how in high school, I didn't ever take regular English, but rather A.P. English and passed all my A.P. tests and got college credits for them. The director said that that shows I am very intelligent with vocab itself. I am just not sure I should be talking about high school English classes in my grad school cover letter. The way the director was able to realize that my scores don't reflect me was by talking to me face-to-face.
  8. My reasoning behind talking about the amount of hrs I spent studying is because the director advised me of doing so. I just don't know how to word that and tie it in without it sounding like there is no flow.
  9. Hello, I went and talked to the director of the program I want to get into the most because I was worried about my GRE scores. I was able to prove to her that my GRE scores do not reflect me as a student and that I am quite intelligent. She told me that she was excited to get my application and told me to write about my GRE scores in the Cover Letter (the cover letter for that school is to just state that you are interested in their program). My question is: What all do I need to say about my GRE scores? I have taken it twice...so do I need to say how many hours I have studied and prepared for the test (100s by the way)? Do I need to mention things that may be going on in my life that could have affected my scores (my dad is on hospice)? What all should I say? Thank y'all soooooooo much!
  10. Thank you fuzzylogician!!
  11. I'm hoping I will not be cutting it close...my deadlines are Feb 1, Feb 15, and March 31. My goal is to have all of them done by the end of Dec or the beginning of Jan. Since I still have time to complete everything, I should have them done. But with family health issues, commuting, and finals coming up, you never know.
  12. All of my applications require one. I would say that if it is optional and you have something that you would really like to share with the application committee that is not found in any other part of your application and it would help you look better, then send one in...I don't think it would hurt you.
  13. Also, can I put "Dean's List" and "National Honor Society" (Vice President) on my CV? If I can put Dean's List, do I put how many years I have been on the Dean's List? I was VP of NHS in high school but I am obviously still a member of NHS, so can I put that on my CV or not? I guess while I'm asking these questions I might as well ask if I can put Phi Theta Kappa (honor society for community college) on there? I was planning on it anyway but better be safe than sorry. What about being conversational in a second language? Thank you!
  14. Hi, I thought we could have a forum where everyone can talk about school psychology if that is the field they are going into. Talk about what school(s) you go to or are applying to. GRE score requirements. Other application requirements. If you are going LSSP or PhD. Why you want to be a School Psychologist. Type of employment/internship/volunteer work you did as an undergrad to better your CV for grad school. Questions concerning school psyc. Comments concerning school psyc. Anything at all about school psyc.
  15. I'm hoping to get my in by the end of December or beginning of January. The main schools I am applying to have Feb 1, Feb 15, and March 31 deadlines.
  16. Okay, great...thank you!! I'm going to go try it right now!
  17. AMEN! They are out to make money any way they can...totally agree 100%! I'm not sure if I'm through taking the test or not, I haven't decided yet...but if I do take it again, the price better not change!
  18. Is that the same as U.S. $110? I'm thinking it's different but I really don't know much about different currencies; I'm assuming that's more than U.S. $110. Did you have to fly to take the test? If so, that really does suck! I had to drive an hour and a half.
  19. Yeah, ETS really screws over international students...I really don't understand why there should be a price difference!
  20. How do I use the multiquote feature? I click on it and nothing happens. I have messed around with it for a while and have not figured it out yet. Thank you!
  21. I was checking my bank statement online and noticed ETS charged me $150 and not $140 for the GRE I took on Wednesday. So I went to their website, and sure enough, the price went up! What the crap! I don't know when this change took place, but I was unaware of it. I took the test the first time at the end of August and it was $140 then. Also, when I called the testing center to schedule an appointment almost two weeks ago, they told me it would be $140. I realize that it is only a $10 difference but it really gets on my nerves. The stupid GRE is just one big scam!!!
  22. By the way, when I took the test on Wednesday, there was no highlighting feature. I looked it up in my study book the day before and it also said nothing about being able to highlight.
  23. Not to bring you down or anything, but when I took the test on Wednesday, I thought I was doing great. I felt like I knew most of the answers and was pretty confident! I took the computer test, so I got to see the scores right away...and when I got the scores, I almost had a stroke. My scores were awful! I don't understand b/c I thought I did great! I'm sure this is not your case so don't get to worrying about it.
  24. Yes, this is for a class I am taking, but the professor, my advisor, and current grad students at the university all have told me that this project can go on our CVs for grad school. We are really conducting our own experiments and presenting them at a big symposium. Thank you so much for the info...it helps a lot! And no I had not been to the website you provided. Thank you very much for that, it is very helpful!
  25. Yeah, that really does suck! Hopefully he/she will come around and get all their eggs in one basket and finally read that SOP! All I can say is stay on their case until they read it...it's not your fault they made promises to you and didn't keep them. If that person is as great as you say they are, don't let them get away without reading your SOP and giving you the best critique ever given!!!
