I keep hearing this! Some of my favorite professors were shut out straight out of their BA and said the years in between their first application season and subsequent ones were crucial to where they've ended up. I'm slightly disappointed that PhD applications haven't panned out for me so far, but I am starting to love the idea of living where my MA would take me, and I definitely think I would be a stronger applicant with a few more years of experience

Very likely I'm shooting blanks this year too, but I'm actually okay with that. I know I can do better, and I will do better. Minor setback and change of plans, I suppose. Of course I would be insanely and wonderfully surprised to get an acceptance from one of the schools I have left, but this seems unlikely. I have learned where my weaknesses are though, and hopefully that will help me when I try again.

To JimFallon: I don't know about calling BS, but Syr. usually does post acceptances all in one day, and I have no idea why it would be different this year. Weird.

Anyone have suggestions on where to live if I'm attending Villanova in the Fall? Is living in Philly do-able? I would much rather live in the city than the suburbs, so I'm hoping that works out.

I'm right there with you; keep your head up, though! There's plenty of time left for acceptances this round, and taking a year off or doing an MA first is not the end of the world (I'm spending a lot of time with this particular hypothetical). It's easy to get discouraged, but try not to just yet

I was wondering how soon MA programs notified... There are a few with March deadlines, and the thought of not knowing anything for certain until May is driving me absolutely insane.
