I personally wouldn't consider attending anything outside of the top 50. Graduates from R-1 institutions have a hard enough time finding the tenure track, let alone graduates from 70th, 80th, or even 100 plus schools. Hell, I applied to Oregon--I think it is like...51 or so--and my professor chastised me endlessly. His words, "I guess you can apply to Oregon...it might get you started in the profession." I'd rather freaking teaching high school than slave away for 5-7 years in penury with no prospects at the end of it. And realistically, it's top 30 or nada.

I haven't been on this place since last year when I was applying. I just want to drop by and say I hope you all get into where you want to attend. I remember how horrible this waiting period was for me. I wouldn't want to go through it again. So best wishes to you all and good luck!

Honestly, I think you did the wrong thing. You have to think about yourself and yourself alone. Screw ethics. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity in which you will be grounded in a new culture, city, and program for 7 years. If you think youd be happier and more successful at another place, well then, go there. I would have. But it's too late now, so just hope it all works out at where you decided to attend.

Maybe Im over thinking this. But say I notify a school Im declining an offer. Then they hit me back with more funding. And I'm still like, "Nah, dude. I'm cool." And then they be like, "Well, where are you going?" 
 
Should I answer. Seems a little intrusive and nosy, being that it is the graduate secretary asking me this, not even a DGS or POI. I'm scared there are some little chivatos up in there that might try and get in touch with where I'm going and wreck my style. Is it safer to just ignore this nosy vieja or what? No other program I declined was like this.
