I've heard (this whole post is based on hearsay, so take it with a pinch of salt) that some departments have a cutoff, some departments need waivers from the graduate school in case of low GREs. I've also heard in general that being in the top decile helps. In the end there is a lot more to your application than the GRE, but in low information settings, every good signal that you can provide can prove to be pivotal. So while low scores are not the clincher, you should hopefully have something else in your apps that can trump them. Sorry for the "I don't really know" kind of response. But the truth is none of us can really say for sure. In any case, good luck!

Hi everyone, I just got admitted to the U of R. I had a few questions about the city if anyone can help me out! If one chooses to live in one of the graduate housing options at the U of R, is it affordable on the graduate stipend? Are they close to the uni and on public transport lines? I do not drive, and will probably not learn at least during the first year. Is it possible to bike around the city? I know it gets really cold, but any personal experiences would really help! What is the crime situation in the city? I read not so nice things on other sites and on this thread, some personal experiences can help form a more informed opinion! How is the wind chill in Rochester? Stupid question maybe, but I just want to know how cold it can feel (not just how cold it can get). That's all I can think at this point, but any responses would really be appreciated. I am an international student, and I'm trying to make an objective assessment of the city as well as the school. Five years is a long time after all

So I vowed to stay off this site till I got my first admit. And I must say the wait has been short After an intense evening where I won everything on my Football Manager save, I received an email from UC Davis notifying me that I've been accepted (funding details in the next few days). I feel intensely relieved and a little sore in the head (because this ceiling is not too high, and even if I'm not tall I'm not a dwarf, and yes jumping was involved).

Me too, good luck to the both of us! I checked past year results again, first accepatances were out on 6th Feb in 2013 and 11th Feb in 2012, so I guess it should be around the same time this year...

My estimate is based on past results of course. And I would prefer an early decision in any case Did you apply there?
