Isn't she wonderful? I hope I'm as happy as she is when I'm 72!

  2. I haven't, but I did get an interview and declined it. I should be in the next wave of rejects that come out - I can certainly let you know if I hear something!
  3. I had this MASSIVE excel pro/con sheet going... and then just went with my gut. Hah. Lots of time wasted, but at least I felt productive! edit: Forgot to congratulate you on Johns Hopkins!!! That's awesome!!!
  4. Well, do you have other offers? Could you see yourself going to this place if nowhere else works out? It is good to let the offer go as soon as you can, but it's also important to do what's best for you.
  5. I'm coming from a STEM program, so this advice may be different than what you need. However, I think another aspect you should consider is which place you will be able to do the best work/research at. Is there a particular professor at either school that would make a perfect contact as you enter your field? Is there more accessible equipment or resources at one school vs the other? It is certainly important to go somewhere that you will feel proud of, but I believe that it is just as important that you go to a place where you create work you can be proud of, too. At the very large schools, you can occasionally get lost in the masses of talented people - or, you may have a great advisor that gives you a lot of personal attention. Do a little snooping and figure out which place puts you in the best situation possible for your future - in terms of contacts, opportunities, and happiness.
  6. Just released my offers at Emory and UMiami - I'm glad I was able to do that early, so someone else can hear back with enough time to make a good decision. Their interview weekends were both very impressive! Best of luck to anyone that's still considering them =)
  7. Hello everyone! I thought I would begin a topic so we could get in touch with anyone else attending Vanderbilt this fall. Has anyone figured out housing yet? Congratulations on your acceptances, and I hope to be able to meet you all soon!
  8. I'm heading to Vanderbilt!!! So thrilled =D
  9. Officially committed to Vanderbilt!!!

  10. I added mine as a header in a light grey. That way it's not intrusive, but they're still reminded about who this amazing SOP belongs to =)
  11. I got my first acceptance (to my dream school!) a couple of weeks ago, during a lecture about traumatic brain injury. I bet everyone else in the class thought I was some sick jerk when I was excitedly smiling and bouncing up and down in my seat! Hopefully some of them heard my call my mom with the good news after class
  12. Sorry about the rejection, but congrats on being able to make the decision! I'm sure it feels great =) Good luck!
  13. Don't freak out if you don't hear back before two weeks - I heard the same thing from both of the acceptances I have so far, and they both took a bit over two weeks. Just be patient and try not to go too crazy as you wait =)
  14. I interviewed for Neuro on the first week (Jan 23-25) and felt I had done well. Still no news! The director of neuro told me they would send out the vast majority of their acceptances in mid-march, after the final interview weekend.
  15. I'm not sure if anyone else applied to Tulane Neuro, but I just got the interview invite. It's Feb 20-23, and includes a Saturday retreat. It sounds pretty nice, and I wish I could make it! They send their invites rather late to expect people to make a single weekend, though.
  16. Thank you very much for the info! I'm actually applying to the NGP (neuroscience graduate program), but I'll keep an eye out regardless. Best of luck on the rest of your interviews!
  17. How did you find that out? I'm about to head there for an interview this weekend, so I'd really appreciate any info you can give =)
  18. I'm not under 21, and opted not to go to the bar or drink alcohol at the faculty dinner during my interview weekend. There were plenty of other people doing the same - no one even noticed. Just do what you know is correct and you are most comfortable with, and you will be fine. Alcohol is always optional (even for those of us over 21) and there is usually an alternative event to going to the bar. The bar is an optional event with no faculty attending, regardless =)
  19. Wow, I should have done that when I was home! Sean is great, he helped me out a lot too =) Thanks for adding the edit! That made me feel better, haha. Miami is a big one for me!
  20. I asked for an alternate - they could do Jan 27-28, but I had an interview that weekend as well. It's pretty soon for them to be inviting more people, too. UVA is a fantastic school! It could all be for the best =)
  21. I told them I couldn't make their weekend a little over a week ago - theirs is Feb 6-7, and I had already scheduled another. I'm not sure if they've invited anyone for that spot yet, but there was one open then Best of luck!
  22. Hi moonchild! I sent most of my applications in the first week of November and a few more a couple weeks after that. I think having sent them in so early is the reason I heard back so fast =) I also had an interview/tour with my PI at UM over thanksgiving break, which probably didn't hurt either. I have a friend that got an invite yesterday, though, so they're definitely still sending them out! Yay Florida!!! Yes, I go to FSU. Last night was the most insane night here! Fireworks, people doing doughnuts in the streets, parties all night... haha I'm pretty tired today That game was worth it, though!
