i agree!!! sheesh there are good schools in a lot of places that aren't the US! from the profs i talk to american schools seem to have this status appeal, undergraduate school status and ivey appeal bleh bleh which canadians/ canadian schools don't really appeal to. im not depending on my school's status to get me in anywhere that is. i would be insulted if someone called me an american haha....i remember when i visited the states the people i was with kept introducing me as the canadian, which i thought was weird because i don't consider people form the states foreign or anything haha

im applying to mcgill! yay canada! montreal is a wonderful city full of food and life. im applying to 2 schools in montreal shallowly so i have the opportunity to live in montreal. both mac and western and in pretty ......dull university towns....i got into western for my undergrad its a pretty campus and a party school but London ontario is pretty small. ive heard great things about UBC and DAL all these schools are really good schools so you don't have to worry about that part. are you done your mcgill app? im doing it now! ahh dec 1 deadlines! for your online application if you've looked at it are 'proposed research' and 'applicant statement' both just your statement of interest? like if you wrote a separate statement of interest do you leave those sections blank? I think i'll phone them monday.

sorry i meant 600 if its for an MA as opposed to a phd program it may not be that big of a deal like if you still wanted to apply for this year just beef up the rest of your applicaiton thats what im doing. SOPs will beyour best friend.

yea the gre really does that! have you tried a math tutor/ gre prep class? i could never crack 500 but you do know the scores start off with 200........thats so weird like........iduno =/

cheesethunder replied to tepidtenacity's topic in Applications

Is my list of schools too ambitious?
cheesethunder replied to eucalyptus's topic in Psychology Forum
i like a little ambition i think its good, afterall its hard to get into schools you dont even apply to! and if you feel they match your interests best then sure, idont know anything about some of those schools or if you have an more safeties.....maybe 1 safety? you already have a masters so i guess that hsould work in your favor? i don't know wha ta 3.6 means.......im not on a 4pt. scale. my list is ambitious and i did pretty terrible on my gres but i figure you only go to grad school once may as well only apply for the ones you can really see yourself going to/ enjoying -
The ghost of SOP past
cheesethunder replied to shai's topic in Statement of Purpose, Personal History, Diversity
iknow some people are super protective of them i know after finializing my cornell one i dont want anyone to see it! haha -
yea what is low? like i have a 540 both sections, my gre prep teacher said that is 'average' and 600 is good yet on these boards it seems that 600 is average...like.....it seems like 1300 won't hurt you but anythign below will its intimidating.

hmm iwas thinking of taking a summer semester i heard it doesnt matter as long as your done your undergrad by sept.

im not on a 4.0 scale what is a 3.7......and 3.8 and 3.6......is it all just an A-?
-

Grad program w/ researchers in sexual orientation
cheesethunder replied to swisnieski's topic in Psychology Forum
im kinda in the same boat as you what i want to do is not really being done anywhere and its really saddening! i want to do moral cognition but its such a experimental phil/ phil general area but have you contacted faculty at these schools, maybe theyd be into your spin on the area? they could also give you some advice for people in the area. who are you interested in at yale? -
yea i got a 1020 1st time and a 1070 2nd time im applying to all the same programs, like iveys, phd programs, etc im relying on my SOP to shine thorugh and my decent major gpa. id retake it, i mean my verbal went up 100 points the 2nd time i took it and i took it during midterms so i didn't get a chance to reallly study that much.
-
it uscks if your international! like thats 150 american right?? good thing i booked my test for the 2nd time when i did! ahhh i paid another 200$ to get the same score bllehhh
-
actually i did 1 class on LOP for some online course and when i contacted grad school they said they needed transcripts from every school i attended even if it was just 1 class
-
my plan b is gettinga job and keeping up with my RA experiences i think maybe its a canadian thing, all the profs i talk to/ other students i know applying to grad school think i am applying to a ridiculous amount (i'm doing 10) they all recommend i apply to 1-3 due to application costs iguess and that 'this isn't like undergrad applications, you don't just apply everywhere' i get the whole increasing your odds to get in but at this point....i am still on my 1st SOP and.....feeel that my other....haha 9 will not be as strong.....i am doing general the same reserach area but i can't just use the same exact SOP for each school. it wouldn't be as strong as it could.
-
i like it too! yea i kept trying to remember how i talk to people aboutmy interests but also know my 1st sop was WAY tooo personal so i can get what you're saying iwanted to come off as very professional so i think thats what sucked the personality/ character out of it i guess im having trouble 'sellign myself'
-
why do you want to go into psyc? i don't know anythign about anthro reserach.....do you do alot of stats? i know stats is important when applying to psyc programs. iknow im applying to phil programs out of a psyc background and im trying to show how my psyc experience is relevant to a phil program which is pretty hard to make that connection of why im more useful then someone with a strict phil background
-
im in my final stages of one of my sops and the people i have gotten to read it keep saying its not very personal/ theres no character blhelbhelh and i get this but i dont know how to fix it without just listing a bunch of great qualities i tried to infer these qualities through my research experiences to show my initiative/dedication/creativity to applying concepts from 1 area of psyc to another but i can see how on the other end i come out as a jumble of facts without any clear indication of who i am as a candidate how can i fix this!
-
i agree! one of my profs told me that my gpa means nothing and that the gre is the only measure of intelligence, i was so horrified but really, it has to indicate something, like 20 courses over a span of 4 years, having to take classes that aren't in you rmajor etc, if you can consistently do well then.....it means your doing something right.
-
ahh = ) my poor self esteem is slowly recovering yea ive never felt so dumb! im like wow, simple math. anaglogies the most trivial test ever, i felt pathetic! yea im just really passionate about writing my SOPs write now and if i dont get in anywhere it will be nice to just have a job as a research assistant for a break from all this stress!
