  1. Thanks! I did the post-bac program there. I had an interview last year, and I was #13 on the wait list. My interview this year went well, but last year was meh. I had a death in the family just days before, and I wasn't prepared. I spent the last year gaining experience, I retook my GREs, and I got invaluable advice from a professor. In some ways, I'm glad because I feel even more prepared for grad school. I volunteered at a hospital, and it was awesome; I learned so much! I'm sorry you got wait listed :/ I know from personal experience that it's tough. But it's not over yet! I sincerely hope it all works out for you.
  2. I got accepted to CSULA! My very first acceptance! This is my second year applying, and my hard work has finally paid off! Good luck to everyone still waiting!
  3. I agree that that may be the case in general, but I know many programs notify later in the game, period. That is the case with a lot of California schools. However, it is frustrating that many take their time to send out rejections. It hurts way more when you cling to false hope.
  4. I am going to go meditate in a cave in some remote corner of the world, and I shall emerge on April 14 to whatever news awaits me. That or check my e-mail obsessively and pull my hair out waiting.
  5. I practice questions, too! Lol I hope people assume I have Bluetooth in my car! They had the writing portion last year, but the prompt was unrelated to SLP. It was pretty simple. Plus, they had doughnuts and coffee I had an issue with LB and my app because of a transcript they kept requesting, so I sent it twice, and they didn't even need it! So my app was barely cleared and referred to the dept. So I'm kinda giving up on it at this point. Oh well :/ Is your interview in the morning or the afternoon? Mine is early. Good luck!
  6. Sorry about the rejection, smartypants14. Hope you hear some good news soon!
  7. Cal State Fullerton does.
  8. Congrats, caterpillar! I remember seeing you on here last year when I would read but never post. Glad it worked out the second time around!
  9. Thanks; you too! I had an interview last year (I was wait listed ), and they mainly asked a lot of situational questions. It was similar to a job interview in a lot of ways. It felt relaxed, although I was still super nervous! I was expecting other types of questions. I'm not sure if they'll use the same approach this year, but I hope that helps!
  10. Congrats to all who have received good news! So exciting!
  11. Does anybody know if CSULB will send out any more invitations to interview? I know that they accept a lot of their own, like many CSUs ( I don't know anybody who got into CSULB last year), but I am really interested in their program because of their bilingual emphasis. I guess I am just so depressed by the whole process. I'm happy for people who get accepted, but I can't help but feel this sinking, scary feeling that it's not gonna happen for me. I don't think my stats are bad (3.09 Undergrad GPA (ick, I was immature), 3.9 CSD GPA, 165V, 154Q, 4.0AW, trilingual, study-abroad experience, and volunteer experience in a top-rated rehab hospital and in a speech-language clinic). I know that I will I make an awesome SLP, but I just don't know if I've proved it to the programs to which I've applied. I am still bitter about not getting in last year, and I just can't face another round of rejections. It will eat me alive.
  12. I completely relate to the "ping" of an email and a mini heart attack! Lol As I'm sure many, if not most of us, do! I get so mad at Groupon for sending me so many emails and getting my hopes up! (I normally enjoy getting those emails, but not during app season!)
  13. Dream: Get into a school with a bilingual program. Hope: Get into at least one program! Having options would be awesome. Guess: I will be accepted into at least one. I think I will, but I'm still nervous about it!
  14. Yes! The only bad thing is that once you finish season 2, there's no more
  15. Have you seen Call the Midwife? It's another BBC series. They have seasons 1 & 2 on Netflix. Another great show! (I also love Downton Abbey, except I don't know if I will ever forgive Dan Stevens! lol) My sister-in-law lent me seasons 1-4 of The Big Bang Theory, so that's currently keeping me distracted
  16. Generally with the CBEST, it's only important if you pass it; I haven't heard of anyone needing to see the actual score.
  17. I also highly recommend Magoosh! I raised my score by 8 points, and I thought the videos and other resources on their website were very helpful. They also have excellent customer service! I also used the Barron's GRE flashcards.
  18. You should totally just answer the question honestly and without feeling forced to relate it to speech! A big part of being an SLP is beyond what you learn in your coursework. Perhaps they want to see your thought process and get a better sense of who you are beyond what they can see in your app. That's a great opportunity to prove yourself in a whole new way!
  19. It's awesome that there are forums like this where we can all talk to others experiencing the same issues and feelings! I just mailed in my last application, and I thought that I would experience some relief, but I actually feel even more stressed! The waiting and wondering is the hardest part. Hoping I didn't forget something, even though I checked the envelope several times. Or wondering if my SOP could have been better. It's my second time applying as well, and the encouragement from well-intentioned family and friends really doesn't help! It's hard to feel confident when so much is on the line!
  20. I took the old GRE back in '07, and it had the AW then. It was just a little different.
  21. I agree that it really just depends on the school. At some info sessions that I have attended, some schools have stated that they do not feel that the GRE is very representative of how one will perform in grad school, whereas other schools have stated that they believe it is a big indicator of future grad school success. One professor told me that with so many qualified applicants, it often comes down to who has the higher GPA and GRE. I don't know if that is truly the case, but it makes sense with the competition getting steeper each year.
  22. I actually went by her office and spoke to her today, and she apologized and let me know that mine was at the top of her pile. No hesitations or forgetfulness on her part, just a busy schedule! I am so relieved! It's all so stressful! Trying my best not to officially freak out. DeafAudi, a week late is terrible! At least the school was understanding. I have heard that many will still accept some materials, like letters, after the deadline. However, definitely best not to take chances!
  23. Does anybody know if it's fairly common for a professor to wait until the very last minute to write a letter of recommendation? I asked my professor back in October, turned in everything she asked for right away, and yet have not heard a thing from her. I have sent two to three emails, to which I have had no reply. I am thinking that perhaps once the semester starts on Monday that she will come through, but I am also afraid that she won't. I once proved the professor wrong on something, and I'm afraid that I got on her bad side, but I thought we were simply having a discussion. Plus, she could have easily said no. I don't really think she would sabotage my chances of getting into grad school, but I am so scared!
  24. I have heard some schools say that they prefer, or even require, applicants to have completed the ASHA prereqs beforehand, as they don't have room to fit it into their already busy schedules. My friend who started this fall hadn't taken one or two of the requirements, and she recommended that I get them out of the way before I begin grad school; it seems like they're kind of more thing to pile on. I'm actually planning to take chemistry and statistics this spring at a community college, and I'm wondering: I want to submit my apps already, but I am not registered for the courses yet, and they may close soon. Will it matter if for some reason I have to take one or both in the summer if I originally listed them as planned for spring? I don't see why not, as long as they're completed. But perhaps it will create a problem with sending in transcripts? Any thoughts?
  25. Hi! I'm applying to CSULA, CSULB, CSUN, CSUF, Chapman, and Redlands. My husband has a good job here, so I have to stay local. My undergrad GPA in French and Spanish is only 3.09 (I was pretty immature the first two years), but my post-bac GPA is 3.963. My GRE scores are 165 V, 154 Q, and still waiting on AW. I served as an assistant to a graduate clinician in my school's on-campus clinic for a quarter, and I've also volunteered at a rehab hospital since August, which I really love! I also have experience as a tutor in math and language arts, and I studied abroad in Bordeaux, France for a semester during undergrad. I am bilingual in Spanish, and my French is good, but not fluent. This is my second time applying to grad school. I was wait-listed last year to my top choice, but I didn't get in. But I am very hopeful this year! I feel like I've done a lot to make myself more qualified. So fingers crossed!
