you are both right, and i am grateful that he was honest with me, but the thing is, i told him a THOUSAND times....HEY my GREs suck and my GPA is 3.58...if its so competitive, i rather not apply. ohhh no apply apply, we are a great fit and we look at applications holistically, please apply apply. ......just tell me BEFOREEEEE that i suck too much for your program.
-
oh no , they just i am not a competitive enough applicant for them. DON'T BOTHER APPLYING AGAIN..........i mean...my GRE sucks, but i thought if i fixed that, i would be competitive....i guess not....
-
not only didnt they take me, my POI nicely told me to not bother applying again...this year , next year...or ever..
-
congratulations ! go out and celebrate

i asked about my application and what i can do to better it next year, and my POI pretty much told me in a nice way "you are not good enough, DONT BOTHER AGAIN" ....that TOTALLYYYYY put the cerry on top of my melba, let me tell you

i also got rejected....i am shaking! i only have 3 more schools too go !
-
hmmmi wonder what that means for the rest of us...if people were notified about wait listing, then i am sure some admissions or rejections must have been made. Congratulations to you!
-
you know...he didnt say but i am SURE that what it is is that 120 people are for the MA and 82 people are for PhD because we were SPECIFICALLY discussing the PhD program that i applied to. I asked him "how many offers will you be making this year" and he said " 6 out of an 82 application pool" - this conversation was this saturday ...for the person that said cuts have already been made.....were they notified or randomly called?
-
thank you so much for the information! Thank you! But,...the applicant pool is 82 people, Dr. Roosevelt told me . Can you explain the classical thing again and how that relates to the retired faculty......if that'ss really the case,.....i am screwed. .. Your research interests sound amazing ! A very underrepresented area in this topic. I am interested in bioarchaeology and mortuary analysis from the Bronze Age- Iron Age Central and Western Anatolian burials.

i did not sea any rejections??? do you guys mean from the anthro department or archaeology one?

the Pittsburgh rejection is mine........ (i like how i am claiming it with pride). Dont worry if you have not heard anything from them, because i wrote an email to find out and the director said that they had not sent out notifications yet but they will "soon" ...i wish you better news than i have

I emailed the Director and asked and he told me that the decisions will be going out soon....you should just ask him too and see what happens. Perhaps you got in! Let me know how it turns out -

I have so far been rejected from Stony Brook and Pittsburgh....so danaofdoom it dos not seem like we will be classmates my only real hope right now is UCLA -
i want a PhD because i want to have to option do whatever i want . I would like a tenure position someday but i also would not mind teaching at a university. what i am sure about though is that i want the ability to do research and lead excavations. However, the way things are going this year, i believe i am not going to be able to do any of these...

i am going to be working on mortuary analysis is Lydia and Phrygia

Yes, it is 6 students, and the application pool was 82 ...............
-

Stony Brook IDPAS- POI not on the admissions committee
Daisy123 replied to Daisy123's topic in Anthropology Forum
thank you guys.....but i kind of lost hope already....i am starting to make plans about what i am going to do next year....i just have a feeling. I was really secretly optimistic about this school. Its one thing to get rejected as a first response from Stanford where i am not a great fit anyway and it ISSs a super exclusive school....but to be rejected as a first response from the place i had hope for- it feels really disheartening . my only glimpse of hope now is that wait list from UCLA -

I did not respond to the email..cuz it was generic, but i actually found out BEFORE hand while speaking to the director. I did just as you did Melian4 and stated again how much i wanted to go there.... catsrgods, its great that you do all these volunteer activities with animals, i wish there were more people like you in the world. Your research interests are also very diverse and so are your experiences- i am sure you have a good chance! I I am interested in Neolithic- EBA Anatolia, with focus on mortuary analysis and bioarchaeology. What about all of you guys- what would you like to study? -

yeah, dear candidate totally hit the spot on ....hahah and i found it super funny that they were "impressed" by the application- if you are that impressed to offer a wait list , i wonder what they write to those accepted - "we were enamored by your application" ? -
