I really wanted to apply to ohio state but i have no answer from the POI there

i dont think it will be a problem- at the end of the day you will either get a positive response or a negative one. if you DONT contact them, then you wont win anyway.

thank you both very much, i always feel like i am intruding, and hearing you say that makes me feel so much better about writing repeatedly. what would those of you who are already attending say the BEST way to get around mediocre GREs are. THats my other concern. I barely found 3 people who could POSSIBLY work with me, so i feel like i am literally going to apply in the dark.

ah, so you think i should apply anyway? thank you ..i just today see that the application deadline is TOMORROW and the professor who was supper exited about potentially working together, went into hiding. May i ask you, as i see that you are already IN a program: for a school that I am applying for a second time now and for which i have had good feedback on my SOP, what could /should I do differently? nothing has changed in terms of what i want to do.

So , what have you/will you/ can you do when your POI's are NOT writing back to you after they suggested you write a detailed email with more info about what you want to do call and harass?

hahah well 425 would be great but 1 - i am not rich, 2- it reallly comes down to- i don't have that many options because there are no specialists that do what i want to do . Are you going to apply to some of the same schools?

I remember you too! how are you? I have Ohio State , Notra Dame, University of Utah , UNLV and Pittsburgh again- this is it...and perhaps University of Kansas but i have yet to hear back from that POI and actually, the situation is the same for Ohio State, so actually only 4. are for sure. I dont really know what to do about my POI for pittsburgh because nothing has changed in terms of interest...

So...how will we do this? i was rejected last year from all the 7 schools i applied to. I was interested in mortuary archaeology, and i was rejected from everything. My MA GPA is 3.58 and BA 3.56, but GRE is a disaster- V158 and Q148 and the time before .680Q and 470V..As for experience i have a ton...but i think it didnt save me. I dont think i can do better on the GREs Problem is...i still want to do the same thing i am struggling with finding more programs than last time....now i have 4-5....and this is pushing it. On the other hand, this time I really know that these advisers want to work with me. What are your stories? what will you do differently?

i just wanted to start this post for those of us who have been rejected from everywhere but will try again next year. What were your experiences, what did you learn , what will you do differently?

So i was rejected 7/7 and i contacted all of them to ask about next year. 4 of them actually offered to talk to me on the phone and give me detailed advice about my application and what i can do better . 1 of them told me that they cant share anything and cannot give ANY advice. 1 said that they already lost my application and just try again, and 1 of them told me to never bother applying again- i am not good for their program. thats a great approach, at least next time you will have to show - this is what i had last year, look at how much more i have now- it will show that you are serious and you keep striving to get somewhere within the field. I dont think that i would re-apply if i couldnt add anything on my CV this year too. But i dont think i will be re taking my GRE because i doubt that there will be much difference, honestly

this sounds kind of dumb, i know...but do Forensic anthro people do field school type of things? if so, you might want to get involved though i am sure you know more about it then i do .

Thank you both! Yes , I do have a MA in archaeology specifically , but the MA thesis was not on the topic that i wanted to study as a PhD applicant (at least the location is different). Next time, i will definitely post my SOP here...this is a great idea, thank you. What i am wondering is if i am to contact the POI, should i do it NOW or later? does it matter?

So , i just got rejected from the Cotsen institute which was my last hope this year for my PhD dreams... Though i am very shattered, I know the only way to get myself out of this emotional state is to start sowing for next year's harvest ....I want to know from those of you who have made it, or have yet to make it next year , should i/ how soon should i contact my POI at the institution and express my interest AGAIN. This time i want to talk on the phone, and i want to discuss what i can do better and if i SHOULD even reapply next year. of course i am boiling inside and i would love to call her tomorrow, but that would be in bad taste, correct? how would you approach this? Again, a billion thank yous to all of you here, and i truly hope that everyone will get what they want and deserve this , next, or in a few years

i think you should volunteer somewhere in order to get some hands on experience? For example, you can call your local forensic lab and see if you can convince them to work on something (anything) with you. Also, you can try contacting a professor at a univ. / college near you and find a professor you can work with on a topic you are interested in. Offer your help in gathering data, or just assisting them with the research they are doing. This might be helpful to you and for a professor you want to work with at your PhD institution (might even get a letter of recommendation out of it)

yep, got my rejection from them right now too...so sad...I know it was expected but STILL...no miracles happen i guess

oh noooo. ...its alll bad news then. I dont know why, its not like i didnt expect it, but i feel so totally crushed allll over again! i was secretly hoping for a miracle to happen at least ONE time i guess

thank you for your response, it is good to know that we are not forgotten. I am starting to think that i am putting too much hope on this waitlist because i dont think too many people will reject this school and enroll elsewhere. If something free's up it will probably be a space or two..and i dont even know how many people can be on the wait list.

no no , this is not information. I just meant that at least for those whose 1st choice is this program, they will probably not wait until the deadline to confirm, correct? So, let us say that everyone DID already confirm weeks ago, should they not know by now if they have ANY openings?
