thank you for your answer. It is very good to know. But in general, do schools do the interview process once they are sure they want the student, or if they are trying to decide on other factors other than personality also?
-
Hello you guys! i just returned from the formal interview at Notre Dame. It was amazing! I got to meet potential students and past students . I had 6 interviews with separate faculty members and a presentation. The tip i have to give resulting in all of this is: You have to know how to present why you want to study anthropology in general- how it is relevant. Second, you have to present what you want to study in such a way, especially for those programs that are all about the 4 field approach, that it is clear how it connects with anthropology in general and why it is important.

Thanks for this - it makes a lot of sense. I wrote an email last week, telling a POI at a school i already applied to that i found a collection that i might work with, and it is very essential for my project. I wrote them in the " i just want to inform you" tone. ...i didnt ask a question, or imply that i needed to hear back from them. Do you think this is harmful in any way? Pushy?

i have said "IFFFFF iget into grad school" a thousand time. IF i get in, i am going to learn to fly, thats it!

thank you for starting the tread. Reading the answers you got, I have indirectly received good tips Anyone has any advice for a ppt? What should I include and what shouldnt I ?
-
Congrats! How was it? What you expected or ....? Don't worry about rough around the edges, this is anthropology, people want to see non "traditional" , right?
-
Thats how I feel - that i will freeze and make myself look like i am having a mild form of seizure . My interview is on the 26th. What is it that you mean by "rough around the edges" ? I will cross my fingers for you today and tomorrow! Let us know how it goes.

Blatant typos in email from POI: worry/ndb?
Daisy123 replied to bookofkels_'s topic in Anthropology Forum
no no, i agree with everyone else. Almost anyone I have communicated with has sent emails with many typos. -
Yeah, i think there will be a similar thing at my interview too. We have to make a ppt presentation >The only thing i dont understand is from there, how will they decide who they will keep and who they wont..I wonder if they refer to the original application more or the in person impression more? What do you guys think?
-
Hahah, well good luck everyone, with or without pants! Do you guys have to make a presentation with the interview? What are you expecting?
-
thank you for the positive words! How is your program ? Are you enjoying it?
-
thanks Faulty- and I sent you a msg btw, hope you saw it.

Thank you Nowaynohow! I am the Notre Dame interviewee, if anyone wants to pour in some knowledge/ ideas/ advise in my head , please do!

congratulations finalist! I want to keep seeing good news, it makes me feel all happy inside
-
very cool! lets consider you IN the program already did you apply to the same school last year?
-
I am an applicant there, and as i understand, this is a new program at their school and this is the second year of applications. I am sitting on needles waiting for next week, because i have been notified that they will announce whether there will be an interview or just rejection. As i am waiting, i am wondering for those of you who have received interview notifications, was it by the POI him/herself, the graduate director/ school, or an email that tells you to check on your status online? thank you all and good luck!
-
congratulations on the interview!!! I hope you guys get in and are super happy at your new programs. I have a question. When you are notified for an interview, is it by a personal email from a POI or is it a standard email that tells you to check your application status?
-
HAHAH great perfect. I have another name on there,so they cant even find me Wait ... i am laughing but is this good or bad...
-
Notre Dame they say they will have interviews first, so if I am not called for the interview, i know i am out. The wait-list, will be from the interviewed people that were NOT offered an acceptance.
-
Yes , definitely, this week is very important for our applications . I got an email form a school i applied for early in December, and they notified me that this week the review will be done, and next week from 12 to the 16th we will be notified if we are rejected or will have an interview.

How to deal with a POI that is not is not responding anymore...
Daisy123 replied to Daisy123's topic in Anthropology Forum
Thats good advice...i guess it is good to know in advance when i am planning to flip and when i should not. But to answer your question...the deadline is Feb 1st. Now, i finally found out that that school's break is until the 12th, but faculty might not be back until the 20th. This means that potentially I will literally have 10 days to go to vegas, meet the professor, and apply. Or, even better, find out if he is even returning. I have a bad feeling that the reason he is not responding is that something happened and he had to go. I know I sound ridiculous but Its like an instinct or fear setting in. -

But if the faculty is actually planning on not returning next semester and he does not tell me before the deadline, i am going to be unreasonably AND reasonably pissed.... -

HAHAH okay , i think i can do that. "hi, well...you have been ignoring me for a while now, but here i am, flesh and blood . So, still want to work with me?" and Faulty...18 months...did you actually remember what you emailed him about? I am surprised that he kept the email for so long. THank you all for your logical responses. I know you are right. its just so hard to be rational when i am so exited and so...motivated this year.
