Low Tier PhD Program in Anthropology/ Archaeology- Is it worth it?
Daisy123 replied to Daisy123's topic in Anthropology Forum
thank you guys for all of the information. i just have always had people scare me and tell me that if a program is not hard to get into and the PROGRAM is not ranked high, in the end , your education is not regarded as high , and that i will get eaten in the research world when people from the top programs can get their hands on what they want to do, and i will be left with crumbs because i wont be able to get funding. > but it cannot be THAT bad right otherwise the programs should shut down! -
did you end up excepting the MA program? did you think about it?

HAHAHAHAHH )))) Thank you for making me laugh. As i understand it......they have not made funding offers, and that means that people wont be able to decide until April and thats when they will be able to take in new people. BUt what i don't really understand is ....why take people off the wait-list if they don't know what willl happen until later... i dont get it. -
After loosing hope that i will get in ANYWHERE this year...i was wondering...if applied to a lower tier school next cycle, ,would it be worth it in the end. I want to be a researcher and secure a teaching position at a research institution eventually...those are my goals. I am in contact with a professor from University of Nevada Las Vegas who 's interests match mine and i fit very well with the program. But in the end, if i do this...will i ever be able to do what i want? Would any of you attend an institution that you never even heard of before?

Hello my fellow wait listies I wanted to see how you are doing while waiting- do you have back up plans and programs? . I have been rejected by most everything, only 3 left to hear from, and this UCLA looks like my only realistic hope.. on another note, to relieve stress, which PO's did you guys want to work with? what is your research interest? Have you heard any more news from Cotsen Good luck and i hope everyone gets in their top choice~ -
congratulations!!! I am so happy for you!!! So , is this part of the anthro program or the linguistics program, cuz i cant seem to find this dual degree ....
-
my fellow Arizona applicants, i did some more stalking (yes, i know....but what can i do). So, i talked to someone at the department again and the gentleman told me that we will be finding out yes/no in the next 2 days as he is going through about 150 applications . The number admitted for archaeology ( i did not ask about the other sub fields i am sorry) was actually 8 , and the application pool was over 200 people.....i have given up hope
-
congratulations to everyone! i am really genuinely happy for you!
-
oh, and that we should hear very very soon
-
hello! so i just spoke to the director of graduate admissions, and he told me that they will be accepting 5 archaeology students....all together...across all sub fields

Hi!, i dont think its cotsen because it would not be under anthropology but archaeology i would think... -
...well I guess i have missed the point of "fit " in a couple applications.....i am sure that i am not applying there again though. Do you guys think its appropriate to ask about if it is worth applying next year or if there is anything to be done better?

congratulations to both of your amazing news on this day! If you didn't have a valentine , you do now!
