  1. What sort of social gathering? Are there any hints as to what the evening event will be like? If it's a cocktail party, cocktail attire is appropriate. If it's at a bar, I'd say jeans are appropriate, but maybe dress smart/trendy casual. I'd recommend dressing a little bit more conservatively for the event with faculty on the second day.
  2. I'm such an ISFP. People close to me are always surprised that I say I'm introverted. I'm loud and fun and energetic, but I vastly prefer my alone time. It probably stems from being a weird only child.
  3. I used to think about this a lot. In a purely fantastical and reductive sense, there really can't be a "One". How would anyone account for widows and widowers remarrying? You had a life and kids with this amazing person, and then after some freak accident or something, they're gone! And 10 years later, you're remarried to the new love of your life? It just doesn't jive, poetically speaking. Also, I've read somewhere that people can be compatible enough with about 1 out of every 100 people they meet to spend the rest of their lives together. If there are 3.5 billion men in the world, and a third are within your prime marrying age range, and half of them are single, and you are compatible enough with 1% of them to get married, then you're looking at about 6 million potential suitors. I'm terrible at math, but I think those are decent odds.
  4. 1. Relocate successfully -Quit my job, find a new place, get a new job, and all that stuff without too much strain! 2. Read more books -I usually read about 20 novels a year. I imagine come September, I won't have the same luxury. That's it, actually. Hopefully it shouldn't be too hard to accomplish!
  5. I love Mint. I really recommend getting the app and setting up an account. It's a great way to track where your money goes.
  6. $0 for undergrad. (Thanks, parents!) For grad school, I'm anticipating about $10K, and I'm not happy about having to get loans. I think my parents might contribute again, so all I'll have to worry about is living expenses, hopefully.

That's what I eventually deduced. Thanks for the confirmation!

    School Acronyms

I have no idea what "POI" means yet. Person of interest? I keep guessing. I'm usually confused by all of the state universities for states that begin with M or I. Like U of I, or U of M, or UM, or UI, or IU, or MU, or whatever. I think they need more distinctive abbreviations!
  9. Thank you all for the advice!!! I told my boss the (extremely) minimal truth, that I would be unavailable for two days and happy to take them unpaid, and she was fine with it! She just shrugged, and said "Okay." I was floored--this is a woman who told me I'm no longer allowed to speak to her on the telephone or to her face, and am only allowed to communicate via email. So, yay! Two interviews! (Now I have something new to panic about.)
  10. I don't know what Aldi's or Save A Lot are, but one of the more popular grocery chains in that Vermont/New York area is Price Chopper, and I'm pretty sure there's one in Burlington. It's pretty inexpensive, and it's just your average supermarket.
  11. I really dig what you're saying. I'm actually planning to leave the industry, which is why I'm returning to school. I'm happy to provide them with minimal information, and then expand if they push the issue. I think being honest is the best way to approach it, but my boss is a difficult person, and it's a very small, intimate company. I have a feeling that being honest might lead to my dismissal, but ultimately I'm fine with that, as I'll be leaving anyway.
  12. I haven't been at the job long enough to have time off (only about 6 months), and unfortunately I don't think that I have the sort of relationship with my boss that would allow for that kind of candor. She's sort of a difficult person. I want to be honest, but I'm worried I'll be let go, or worse, they won't give me the days off.
  13. For those of you who work fixed hours (typically a 9-5 or whatever), how are you planning to take time off for your interviews? My interviews are both on a Friday, a week apart from one another. I don't want my employer to know about my grad school plans, as I obviously need the job for the time being. How does one take two Fridays off in a row, without causing much of a disturbance? Are you all taking a sick day?
  14. Two interview/admissions events on the same day. WHYYY???
  15. This just happened to me last night. Of course, they are the two schools I'm most interested in. They're only about 30 minutes away from each other, and probably share the exact same applicant pool! One would imagine they would at least communicate about things like this.
  16. I think standard SOPs are about a page to two pages. Mine went onto the second page, but didn't fill it up all the way. One of my schools had a word limit of 500, which is practically nothing. I feel that my SOP suffered as a result, because I had to abbreviate my accomplishments and limit how I expressed desire to go to that school. I worked so hard to make it EXACTLY 500 words.
  17. Same weird hobbies! My apartment is spotless, and the alley cats are fat and happy.
  18. "Will I get into my first choice?" I just kept refreshing until I got the answer I wanted, "Yes Definitely". That's how magic works, right?
  19. I'm in two book groups, and read a lot. I also watch a lot of TV shows. My boyfriend and I spend a lot of time watching Netflix, and we both love good storytelling. So we tend to get really wrapped up in a series together, and speed through like 5 seasons in a month. It's kind of our unwinding activity. Also yoga, like any good New Yorker.
