I didn't tell schools he was tagging along. They didn't pay for anything, so the road trip and hotel room were already going to happen regardless. It didn't add extra money.
I've only ever purchased it from Whole Foods, so not cheap, but I've found seitan to be a good meat substitute, and my husband and I are big fans of meat. I've heard you can make it yourself. If that's true, it could be a good, inexpensive vegan protein.
I have an interview next week that my husband is coming to. He won't be involved like Eigen's wife, but he'll have the chance to look around while I'm in interviews. The fact that our undergrad college basketball team is playing a conference game on the campus that day helped make the decision easier, as well. I cast a wide net geographically, but didn't pick anywhere that we absolutely wouldn't move to together.
Some of the people I would really have liked to apply with are at Toronto and Waterloo, but I was intimidated enough at moving across the country after being well-established where I am, that the thought of moving abroad was too much for me. When my husband found out I didn't apply (but COULD have) to Canadian programs, he wished that I had.
It's my second time applying too, and I only have one interview. Most of the rest look to be rejections already based on other GC posters getting interviews, etc. where I have not. It's incredibly frustrating. I don't know that I would last another cycle, so I'm probably going to have to reevaluate things if I don't get in again. Crossing my fingers it doesn't come to that.
