  1. Thanks for the kind words everyone! My next interview is this morning, actually. I'll let you know how it goes.
  2. Just got rejected from my top choice. I wish my first rejection didn't have to be this one.

UW Madison. I got an interview but didn't make the final cut. I can't tell if that's worse or not :/

It's definitely not worse! You made it to the interview process unlike many, many others. That's something to be proud of because the graduate school sees something you. If one of the top schools sees something, you should certainly feel accomplished, despite the rejection. Keep an open mind for the other schools you applied to and treat yourself. :)

  3. Well, sorry to report that I was not accepted to UW Madison. If you were interviewed for the MCS track, they voted today so you should be hearing back soon. Best of luck!
  4. Hi there! I applied to Utah as well. Completely different interests BUT I've lived and worked in Utah for a number of years so I'd be happy to answer any questions.
  5. I have a question for you lot. If they don't volunteer the information, is it appropriate to ask how many people were granted interviews? My gut says no but I think that information is pretty vital re: how many spots they have available this year.
  6. I'm so excited for you! Are you going to visit the school before you decide?
  7. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I'm so happy for you! Was that the Comm or the RTF?
  8. Seriously, search through the results for USC. I have a list of all the usual rejection and acceptance weeks for each school. Under USC, I wrote "who knows." I'm not sure anyone can count USC out until they're formally rejected. For those of you attending USC, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I'll be interested to see when people start posting invitations to the interview weekend.
  9. I could be wrong but, based on previous years, USC notifies international first. And that interview is international. Good luck everyone!
  10. Thanks for the attempt but I'm not holding my breath. It's my top choice but, respectfully, it seems to be many, many people's top choice.
  11. I like the way you think. Ok, interview breakdown. If you want more information, feel free to PM me. I think it went ok. We had some technical difficulties with Skype so we switched to a phone interview mid-question. As a result, my response to the first question was not very smooth. Hopefully, he'll forgive me that one. The questions were: why graduate school, what do you want to study, and why do you want to study it here. He asked me one question about my interdisciplinary background and mentioned that he'd have to look into how credits would transfer, etc. I asked a few questions and he shared some information about stipends, summer support, the TA process, and what the rest of the admissions process would look like. I was originally told they interviewed 10, but that's jumped to 12 now. They do not know how many spots are available yet as funding has not been decided. I should hear back in 3 or so weeks (ah!). They don't usually have a waitlist but they may need one this year. Oi, that was stressful.
  12. Congrats! Did you get the fellowship or is that still TBD?
  13. I didn't but the main POI I'd been in conversation with is one of the people interviewing me so he's aware. That's an interesting idea, though. Congrats to whoever received the Comm Arts Rhetoric interview at UW Madison!
  14. I agree. I needed a palate cleanser after NCA this year. Besides, TV and fandom studies are on my radar so I'm excited to go.
  15. Thank you! I'm going to the national one in New Orleans. I'm glad someone else is attending!
  16. Thank you! Thank you! If only I could keep up the streak...
  17. Thank you! I actually just received another phone interview invite for next week. I had no idea this school even conducted interviews.
  18. It's on Friday. I hope it will go well; I'm pretty nervous about it. I'll let you all know how it goes and what kinds of questions were asked. It may help others in their interviews, who knows.
  19. I RA'd for two professors, one a qualitative, ethnographic study of a particular museum and the other a quantitative analysis of certain web homepages. They were both somewhat relevant to what I'd like to do in focus but not in artifact. I learned a lot from both projects so I'm very happy with them, regardless.
  20. I got an official letter in the mail from one of my schools, letterhead, the whole deal. It was just to let me know that my application was submitted successfully. You know, a month ago. Like the email I already received had confirmed. I also received an email directly from one of my POI but, unfortunately, their coordinator was out sick so she was emailing everyone to let them know that their funding applications were received. Bah!
