That was me. I spoke to the DGS at NCA (I'm sad I know what that all means). He said they're supposed to report to the university who they want to admit by Jan 30. He was not sure whether or not the early deadline would speed up notification. The admissions rep with him made it sound like the interview weekend would be on the same schedule as always, for what it's worth.

Waiting Game--how do you deal with the waiting anxiety?

^ This. So supportive and so frustrating. -
I think that's a personal choice. I applied to schools based only on faculty and program fit; location was not a factor. On the other hand, one of my grad faculty is a strong proponent of only applying to places you'd enjoy living since you'll be there for so long. I don't think either is inherently right or wrong. Like EVERYTHING ELSE in this process, I don't think there's a clear answer. I chose to apply to 10 to increase my odds but, actually, I may not submit a few of them. As I adjust my SOP for each program, it's becoming increasingly clear which schools don't match my interests as well as I'd thought.

I agree with iphi. Also, I would give anything for a ~50% acceptance rate. My programs are at 4-7%.
