  1. Congratulations! Excellent school.
  2. Do you mean you were accepted into two programs or you said yes to two offers? If its the latter, you will need to write the school you will not be attending and fess up. They will likely be a bit irritated but there really isn't any other choice. The sooner you do that, the easier it will be.
  3. Funding over prestige every time. In ten years nobody will care where you went to school but that student loan debt is for life.
  4. That is kind of a false equivalency though. Just because you are sick of being an undergrad does not mean you are too burned out for grad school. Graduate school is NOTHING like undergraduate study. I definately agree with catching up on the latest research in your field to prep though.
  5. Depends how bad and depends on the school. I would think that if you straight failed a required course they would withdraw their offer because you wouldn't be graduating on time. I am with you on how tedious this semester seems now though. I am just ready to move on.
  6. I would not believe any answer you get here. You just have to try and find out. Grad school acceptance is 1/3 stats, 1/3 luck, and 1/3 ?????
  7. It may be a good idea to apply for some lab tech positions that research population genetics or a similar field. You already have some research experience so this should be pretty easy for you. Taking the classes is nice but relevant research experience is what gets you in PhD programs. If you take classes that don't go on your transcript, I would suggest taking either the Biochemistry or Biology GRE to show your knowledge even though you may lack the formal instruction. Good luck to you!
  8. It seems better to recruit players for college teams without forcing them to attend and earn a degree if they are not interested. If they are spending most of their time training or playing they only have time to get bullshit communications degrees anyway. I doubt this will ever change though.
  9. An unfunded master's program may be possible but not recommended. Find work as a lab tech. If you like it, you can stay in that field. If you find you would rather drive your own research, take that experience and find a funded program.
  10. Please don't do this. Any PI I know would do his/her best to blackball you forever over sending such an email. Getting rejected sucks but your best bet is to handle it like a grown-up.
  11. Thank you for that. Not enough people are asking themselves this question.
  12. Congratulations! We must have gone the same weekend.
  13. A thank you email will not help your application in the slightest but it is the polite thing to do.
  14. I have been fortunate enough so far to only get rejections from places I wasn't very excited about. If I had got either of those rejections before my first interview request I would have been a mess though.
  15. My guess (and this is complete speculation on my part) is that the 1st round of interviewees will get the decision at the same time as the 2nd round because they couldn't reschedule the adcom meeting after that snowstorm. My guess is we will hear back by wednesday if this is the case. Glad it is not just me waiting. I was wigging out this last week.
  16. What was the Hopkins interview like? How quick did they reimburse you for travel?
  17. If I've learned anything this interview season, it's that... You should plan to be at your interview location pretty early the day before. Coming in at 3:30 am the day of the interview because of flight delays suuuuuucks.
  18. I hated the UMich application the most. Too many damn essays. UT Southwestern and Baylor had kind of ugly sites but they were easy to navigate and FREE!
  19. Anyone at the last Penn CAMB interview weekend hear back yet? I got the email saying the decision is delayed due to weather but I have heard nothing since.
  20. I just heard back. Check your inbox.
  21. I would quit science as I have zero aspiration to be a lab tech and can't afford to wait another year and try again. I would probably do what my finance major buddy did and go be a prison guard or some shit.
  22. A PhD in packaging. I didn't even know there was an undergraduate degree in packaging.
  23. Nope. I am waiting too. Heard from someone that worked there to expect an email withing two weeks (told a week ago at a different interview) but this could be total bullshit.
  24. Who did you interview with in the micro department if you don't mind me asking?
