  1. Congrats on NMSU!!! Too bad about UCLA, but it doesn't seem that you are alone judging by the results page.
  2. That is a little scary to hear, but I keep calling them and they keep telling me that there is no official word yet.
  3. Erber does the close relationships that I am interested in. PJ Henry was not really who I wanted to be my main adviser. I was interested in maybe collaborating because the work (prejudice I believe? It's been a while since I looked) was pretty interesting.
  4. Yeah PJ Henry would have been amazing, but when I emailed him he mentioned that he was going to be gone from DePaul from AT LEAST a year. Erber was always really helpful and would email back a couple of days after I emailed him. Well I emailed him just to ask if he focused on publishing books or journal articles more now (trying to nicely ask why he hasn't published much since 2004 because I was wondering what his mentor style is now). Anyways, he never emailed me back and my adviser later said that it could have been interpreted to be very rude....
  5. Lucky! I applied to work with Pietromonaco. There are actually two of us in this forum that were effected by the switch... But definitely congrats on that!
  6. When the UMASS switcheroo happened I was a little upset, but it was still kind of a relief because at least then I knew that I could quit worrying about it.
  7. Yeah I think I read it somewhere else on here that somebody is convinced that they will wake up to an inbox full of emails from POIs... I wish this would happen, but still nothing. Although, it is a bonus that there haven't been any other news (at least not that I know of) from any of the schools so that at least means I am not rejected.
  8. What's so depressing?? @a.arcane: I saw your message and I thought I replied. I applied to work with Erber. I think I might have pissed him off though.... Yeah I saw you wanted to work with Reyna right?
  9. Who are your POI's from Texas/Tennessee?
  10. I would just like everybody to know that I do not know for sure about the UMich thing. I just raised the question because I know if it had happened at any of the school that I applied to I would be furious that they cherry picked through the applications looking for a certain one. However, I cannot say that I am above these people that use this "it's who you know" connection to get into a UMich. The first thing I did when I considered a school was emailed a POI. I did this for two reasons: to make sure that they are taking a student and to get my name in their mind. So I hope I didn't frustrate anybody by my post. I was just curious what yall thought. @geichat: I am sure if you were invited to the interview weekend then they probably considered you a competitive candidate.
  11. Honestly it is situations like those that make me appreciate professors that tell prospective applicants that they don't talk too much with applicants prior to the application deadlines. My POI from A&M told me that he does not say anymore than that he is taking a student. It kind of frustrated me at the time, but this sort of stuff makes me appreciate that he tries to go in with as little bias as possible.
  12. I'm with you. I send my application to a school expecting them to give it at least a good once over and hopefully more. However, I would not be too surprised if this happened at Michigan/Stanford/Ivy League. I haven't seen any interview requests from Michigan yet. So far all I have seen is a long list of rejections.
  13. Well it is good that you had the courage to even apply.. I was too scared of applying because I email Finkel and the first thing he talked about was how competitive it is. He scared me out of applying.
  14. The results page shows that Northwestern has sent out one interview request and one rejection so far.
  15. Such a big help... So I mentioned to my adviser that Michigan was only taking 1 or 2 students this year and he mentioned that the acceptances were probably already decided before they even received the applications... He explained to me that at much larger programs it is not completely uncommon for those acceptances to be more about who you know than anything else. Now I didn't apply to Michigan, but I just wanted to throw this out there and see what yall think. What would you do if you applied to Michigan (or any other program at the top of your list for that matter) and found out that they knew who they were accepting last summer? Do you believe that this happens? I personally do, but I have been told that I am too cynical.
  16. While I hate to say it I would think that a postdoc is probably a much better instant investment. That way she will have a person that is probably going to be more dedicated to the project at hand rather than dividing their time between classes and personal research interests... She was my POI too so I really hate saying it, but it makes more sense.
  17. Yeah I don't know what I would do if some school just skipped over my application.... I honestly kind of feel that way about the UMASS situation..
  18. I would think that somebody just hasn't updated your online file rather than them just passing over your application all together.
  19. I don't have any experience with SUNY-Buffalo, but Tennessee had left a few things missing for almost a month and I had to call twice before they finally fixed it.
  20. Well it came straight from the mouth of my (and others) POI that they won't be accepting so I have already crossed Amherst, MA as one of my potential future homes.
  21. Thank you for all that information!!! That was far more than I knew already since the only person I know from Knoxville is my dept head, but he graduated in the 80's.
  22. lol Thanks Anita. Yeah I did worry about that, but when it comes to this kind of stuff I always think worst case scenario... I guess now I can expect my consolation prize: a rejection letter.
  23. My adviser graduated from Kansas in 2009 and he was kind of surprised when I told him that they were already sending out interview invitations. I would think that would mean that you probably have some more time before you start to panic.
  24. I just found out that my department actually has too much money so if I went here I would be guaranteed funding. Let me say again: I would rather go ANYWHERE than here.
  25. Is nobody applying to Tennessee!?!?!?
