  1. I honestly hope you're joking... Also without knowing the school or program, none of us can really help you out at all.
  2. a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
  3. Waitlisted at Tennessee. and so it begins...
  4. Still waiting to hear back on interviews from 2 weeks ago and have 2 interviews next week. I'm sick of waiting I just want this process to be over. It takes way too long.
  5. Not me haha I got rejected.
  6. 1) Move up deadlines: Dec. and Jan. are way too late. This will also mean the process should be over well before the Apr. 15. deadline. 2) Increased levels of transparency. Should be relatively easy given everything is electronic now. 3) Send out Rejects asap.
  7. How long should I wait post-interview to inquire about the decision (interview was 3/6)? According to the programs website, "The Graduate Studies Committee meets the following week to make the decision to accept or reject the applicant, or to defer the decision until a later time".
  8. Power Rangers
  9. Vegetable Garden
  10. I wouldn't quote me on this, but from what I understand an MBBS = MD (which is all you need for a postdoc) and USMLEs are only required if you plan to practice medicine. I would do some more research to confirm this though.
  11. Seriously, I think I'm developing an ulcer at this point.
  12. So I thought pre-interview waiting was bad, but it turns out that post interview waiting is 1000x worse.
  13. Boston Children's, CHoP, really any of the large children's hospitals in the states. I see that you are transitioning from clinical medicine, do you have an MD or MBBS? If you do, I'd target a postdoc (which is likely easier to find).
  14. Finally, got my interview rescheduled for March 26th ( official visit date was 3/6). Kind of concerned, is this just a sympathy interview at this point? It's 2 weeks before the deadline. This is my top choice and was pretty upset I couldn't make the official date!
  15. Have a lot of international RA's at my institution. In most places, the PI wouldn't be responsible for any of the visa issues. You are hired by the institution and simply working in the PIs lab. You have to target large places who employ lots of RA's. Also, it wouldn't hurt to target PIs that have a similar background as you.
  16. Just got an interview invite for a program at Case. Better late than never I suppose.
  17. Well I can see why you haven't been accepted anywhere...
  18. Best: University of Cincinnati, Tennessee Worst: Case Western
  19. Go with research fit. Plus your stipend will go a hell of a lot farther in St. Louis than Manhattan haha. In all honesty though, WashU is on par ( if not better ) than the ivy league schools . You have to remember too, that what Academia considers to be a "big name" is very different than what a layman does.
  20. Going back and reading through this, 1) You likely didn't make min. cutoffs for the programs you applied to. 2) If your attitude in real life is anything like on this message board, your LORs may have been the nail in the coffin. I'm also deeply concerned that you aren't able to find a new tech position. Based on what you've stated about your work history, and network, you should have found a new job before you were even let go....
  21. I'm not sure what the benefit of sabotaging a fellow student's experiment would be.
  22. Rejected from Illinois.
  23. Made my last attempt at contact with my remaining programs today. Have heard very little from them at this point, so I'm assuming rejections.
  24. I did three years and took a couple grad level courses. I had a sub 3.0 gpa and I have 3 interviews. You really need to be realistic with where you choose to apply, that's the key imo.
  25. A lot of funding ( at least where I'm at) comes from the endowment. I'm not sure if funding for grad student's will take to big of a hit. If anything, I'd hope a threat of funding loss would get rid of the administrative bloat.
