  1. You would write the grant around building the tool, then budget for wall time, storage costs and possibly funding for a stand alone server.

    GPA statistics

I got in with a sub 3.0 but I had 3 years of full time research under my belt and good LORs. I mean unless you know the range of gpas, the average is kind of useless imo.
  3. I chose not to apply to schools in California/Boston/New York, because I didn't feel the stipend would be enough for a married couple to live in these areas. Other that, no I didn't consider it at all during my applications. It did however become one of the deciding factors in the program that I ultimately chose.
  4. I harp on the same thing to everyone that asks this question. Unless the masters will be funded take the tech job. There is no sense in shelling out that much $$ for a degree that is not terminal. Tech jobs are also very lab dependent. I know certain techs who just perform experiments laid out by their PI and others who perform independent research ( in the same way as a student). In my lab, the techs are treated as if they are students and expected to perform at the same level. Also depending on where you work, most places offer tuition remission.
  5. Also would be spending that on a non-terminal degree which is equally as foolish. @kvotheslute: I can give any solid advice without some additional info. You say you want to "boost" your gpa, what is it? What are your GRE scores? What experience do you have? Domestic or International?
  6. Didn't realize I've been watching so much tv. Cable/Work Shows: Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, Forever, Big Bang Theory, The Odd Couple, and my guilty pleasure, Greys Anatomy. Netflix: House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Peaky Blinders.
  7. Is the MS funded? If not, take a tech job.
  8. Was accepted this year to biomedical sciences programs with a sub 3.0 gpa. Was a very stressful process and glad I won't ever have to go through it again. To anyone looking to apply, be open and honest about your gpa. It's the one part of your application that you have no control over so just own up to it. Good luck to any future applicants, it can be done!
  9. The GRE is painless for the most part, so I would go ahead and retake it. Did you happen to contact any of the places you were rejected from post interview? Also try to contact the PI where you did that summer of research. I bet he/she would be a good source of info and may provide a good LOR.
  10. In all honesty, unless that MS is paid for you are wasting your time imo. You'd likely be better of taking a position as a tech at IUPUI and improving your GRE.
  11. ^^^Congrats fellow underdog^^^
  12. Just got done declining offers, I feel like I need to take a shower now..
  13. Honestly just do a pubmed search for whatever you're interested in and go from there.
  14. Now that my application season is officially over, I figured it would be time to do one of these for future applicants. I did not do this earlier for fear of embarrassment. 15. Will likely be Cincy, I've been here for a while now and the future Mrs. has a good job here. On top of that they offer a hefty stipend.
  16. Last decision is in! Thank goodness this process is finally over! I'm in a bit of shock that I will actually get a chance to choose what school I will be attending next fall. To anyone that has a low gpa ( mine was < 3.0), it is possible!
  17. Kevin Costner was in Rumor Has It with Mark Ruffalo Mark Ruffalo was in 13 going on 30 with Jennifer Garner Jennifer Garner was in Juno with Ellen Page Molly Ringwald, Al Pacino
  18. Benjamin Pratt was in Miss Congeniality with Sandra Bullock Sandra Bullock was in Two Week's Notice with Hugh Grant Hugh Grant was in Love Actually with Keira Knightley Keira Knightley was in Anna Karenina with Holliday Grainger (wow I think I just lost my man card...) Will Smith, Dakota Fanning
  19. I got my acceptance this week. What program did you apply to?
  20. So I have an acceptance now from a school I'd go to before the one that I'm waitlisted at. Should I have myself removed from the list or just leave it?
  21. First admit! What a relief!
  22. Just curious if anyone else is in the same boat. I'm still doing skype interviews with one program and have an in person interview at another program on Thursday. Really hoping things work out Thursday because it's my top choice and I wasn't able to make their interview weekend (only had 1). They've also sent out some acceptances already, so I'm a bit concerned.
  23. Lost my mind the day I hit the submit button.
  24. Is anyone else still interviewing?
  25. The point is, you may or may not get in ANYWHERE the next time around, especially as an international. Also there are likely a few dozen people who would do anything to have an acceptance regardless of where its at. An acceptance is a privelage, not an entitlement...
